Ah, I shall take the replacement then. I probably should have specified that in the rules, but that's mostly for songs in Guitar Hero or DDR that are licensed, otherwise it's more of a grey area. Also, it's awesome that SupraDarky wrote some music for the game. |

Oooo alright, some quick responses! Let's see -
xp1337 posted... ...I really need to try and remember what I nominated last time so I don't (intentionally, at least) re-nom anything. Think it was something like: SPHILIA, Godsibb, Song of the Ancients / Fate, Here I Come, and uh... I'm not sure. I know I practically always nom the first two in topics like this, but after that I kind of jump around. Yeah, it's unfortunate that both A) My laptop at the time when I made last year's list is kaput and B) My iPod, which had all 100 songs on it, was lost/stolen. and I guess C) There's no reliable gamefaqs forum archive that I know of. So I have no way of checking last year's list. The only one that looks familiar is "EXEC_Z", but I'm pretty sure I'm remembering seeing "EXEC_SPHILIA"...and upon listening to EXEC_Z it does not sound familiar. I listened to the other 4 noms and they don't sound familiar either. Also, I re-listened to SPHILIA and it is still awesome. Celtic Guardian 7 posted... Note: That version of Jeanne-Leanne is from the OST, but the ingame version sounds different and is, IMO, superior. It also does not seem to exist on the internet. I figured that with the remix rule, that could still be nominated. Correct. Also, feel free to replace it with the in-game version before nominations are closed, if you find it somewhere. Ytterbium_70 posted... If it counts: The Impossible Game - The Impossible Game Theme If not, then I have a replacement, being the very last song. Was that song created specifically for the game? If so, then it counts. Ed Bellis posted... Been listening randomly to some SupraDarky stuff, so that's where the first two are from. The emphasis is on diverse and potentially new songs for you, which is the approach I normally take. Nice, I'm a SupraDarky subscriber and I think his VGM tastes overlap with mine quite a bit, so that's a good sign! |

That was unpleasant. I'll bet you love that one scene from 'The Strangers' :) |

Alright, so I did this last year when there were more of these '100 VGM ranking' topics going on and discovered some great new video game tunes/remixes in the process (plus making lists of this sort is fun). Mega Mana has one going on right now, in the ranking stage (a mix of VGM & non-VGM): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/62509515 - but that's about it, so I figured it'd be a good time to start the noms topic. Plus I actually have a good deal of free time for the next month - woohoo.
Rules: - 5 VGMs max per user - Up to 2 songs per user can be remixes - Please supply the link - No alts/flaming/scramping/etc Last year I think I jumped the gun a little bit in posting the rankings when I should have taken more time to revise the list, so this time around I'll be listening to each song at least three times. Consequently there will probably be a longer waiting time between the nominations being locked and the ranking topic, but it WILL be finished - ya know, barring like my death or a massive global disaster or something. Right - nominate away! |

I didn't add up the values but we've nominated a bunch of games in addition to the big three you mentioned (FF, Mario, Zelda) so maybe you won't be over-inundated with those. They'll likely be the most represented franchises but it looks like you'll end up with about four of each. I think you can safely umbrella the SF2 original / updates.. I'd personally like to see the list with no tampering - just straight-up how many points each game got (for tie-breakers you could use how many 3- or 2-point votes it got, or just your own judgment), besides, as mentioned above, something like Street Fighter 2 where it's just different versions of the same game and can be pooled into one game. Everything else should be separate, I think, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 2, or the different NES Mario games. The NES Megamans are pretty similar, but the second one was much more popular than the first. |

Glancing over these lists, can someone explain why Sonic 1 is in a few Top 5s? I get that it's a big milestone for platformers and all (though I think Sonic 2 refines the formula to a degree of making the first one obsolete), but Top 5 - especially when SMB1 is even there - seems odd. Sonic is a franchise character. In the early/mid 90's, Sonic was Sega and Mario was Nintendo. I agree that Sonic 2 is a better game, but it terms of games that every gamer should know of, I think it's top 5. Same reason the first Mario and first Zelda games are there - I'm not saying they're the best, but every gamer should be aware of them. |

Wow, some of these games are ranked brutally low. Namely Super Mario Bros, SMB3, Wind Waker and Halo 2. Metroid Prime and Ocarina of Time surprised me also. I do like that you include a healthy amount of sports games though. The last 2 summers I went through hardcore FIFA 2010 South Africa fazes - playing World Cups with friends, either same team or different teams, is a blast. I'm waiting to see if Myst or Roller Coaster Tycoon will end up on the list, along with a few other games. |
