I said it somewhere else, but the one thing I miss/would miss if I used reddit is the random nature of boards like this. It's great if you are looking for some specific thing but there is something spontaneous about older style message boards that are dying off. I gather you can mix a bunch of subreddits into your "front page" but that isn't really the same thing, it's just a disjointed collection of various communities. Which reminds me of another thing, you don't really get to see distinct "personalities" form since it's so driven by posting some specific content.

This kind of video is just pure self indulgence, it's ridiculous

I refuse to believe any of these have a creative process of "I want to review this thing in detail... golly would you look at that, it took me five hours!" Instead they're picking some huge figure and working backwards to it, which kind of proves that whatever they have to say isn't actually important

If you have Twitter on your resume you shouldn't worry about struggling to find a job. Not to mention that if you stay, it might not even last three months anyway

They can pretend they're taking a moral high ground (although this time around, I'm not sure they're even doing much of that) but the main objection has always been that they think he makes them lose. Oh yes, I despise Uber Eats, Postmates, etc. Well now every big chain has their own online ordering system, but I largely blame those companies for starting the trend - plus a lot of the online orders are still made to fulfill those delivery systems in the end. Sucks when you walk/drive into a restaurant seeing there are no lines but you never really know if it's actually going to be a short visit since they might be stacked with online orders. And then there's the online orderer side of things, where half the time they still make you go through the drive thru to pick it up, which is like, what's the point if you're going to sit in the same huge ass line

Yes I know. The convenience model that they've relied on is collapsing under a lack of staff. It sucks for customers and it also sucks that these places have underpaid people for ages.

The thing I've always thought was fucked up about hello fresh is that an overpriced waste of packaging is supposed to be a "solution" for the fact that Americans are too time constrained and never really get properly educated on how to prepare meals.

I guess the same could be said of fast food, but at least you are overpaying and wasting to have to do zero prep instead of just reduced prep

I just post because I get bored and like to kill time but I have other outlets to talk about stuff that interests me. Once in a while someone makes a topic about software engineering career stuff that is maybe the one thing I relate with that I can't really get out of my other outlets. Even so, if I was a less stubborn man it would probably be better to just make a Reddit account or something

I will say re reddit that I kinda like the spontaneity here of seeing a topic that actually interests you/finding out this screen name you've recognized for years has more in common with you than you thought. Like I'm not trying to make a habit of talking about software careers on the daily which I feel is more what reddit is meant for

I think Chipotle is pretty good but they're pretty crazy for charging ten bucks for something that's like 60% rice and beans, aka the cheapest food in existence.

Fast food really sucks now. It was always shitty but the promise was that you could get some cheap stuff and have a comfort level knowing it's quick and pretty consistent wherever you get it. Now they just overcharge for it and are perpetually understaffed and I can't blame people when despite all the price increases it's the same shit pay for them

Also in turn, instead of feeling like "oh it's great you can get this almost anywhere" my outlook now is more like "oh great, this shopping center also has the same exact shit that's choked out local restaurants near me"

I don't know about hate, but anything that's just like 100% technical with no sense of songwriting (so a lot of, but not all, prog/math rock/metal). It's more just disappointing than anything, not like it's the worst. But at least there's a certain symmetry to shitty musicians playing shitty music. Like nobody really writes above their technical skill level but plenty of musicians write below it, if that makes sense

I'm just your typical web dev JavaScript bitch. Well sort of. I wish I knew more about inner machinations of software like that, though not for something like crypto/Blockchain. I have thought it would be cool to understand how something like a compiler works or to be able to modify an emulator.

Anyways, on topic, I'm sure you could get some boring ass cushy web dev job if you wanted. I don't know if the crypto stuff is gonna become a poison pill for your resume but what you described at least seems like a good story for an interview

BotW had a single expansion pass that added a lot of content to the game. I think all of the Mario Odyssey updates were free? I haven't played most of them so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like the "smaller" games like Kirby and Yoshi might not have DLC at all. As for Smash, I don't feel like you're obligated to get every fighter if they don't interest you, plus most of them were big swings. Of course they gotta charge for a huge licensed character like Sephiroth.

The worst thing Nintendo does with DLC is locking it behind amiibos, but amiibo is practically dead now.

Lots of Sony games that aren't loaded with micro transactions. Maybe a DLC or two. It seems kinda like your complaint is "having any paid add on content is bad" cause it breaks down otherwise

EA/Ubisoft/Activision are bad about this, sure, and they are big, but they aren't the only AAA players in the industry

Most remote jobs I feel like are gonna be salaried stuff. I don't know how call center type jobs work but that's one of the only things I can picture being hourly since it actually involves shifts of interacting with customers

PCs stopped being a good value like ten years ago imo but maybe with all these crypto crashes it'll be better again. The thing is when people tout how their PC has lasted multiple generations, it probably also cost as much as getting multiple generations worth of consoles

Hmm yeah you might be right. IMDB has Jamie and Adam in 285 episodes and the rest are in somewhere between 216 and 244. I guess it felt like a lot longer when it was just the original two. I think part of it also is that there were much fewer dumb myths in the early episodes. They were more "pure" to the concept of urban legends. Once they started getting into movie myths I was like okay these can be fun but it's a little absurd

I really have had no idea how to make friends since college. I guess I did okay with it at my first job, but afterwards it just hasn't been the same, even before WFH. But now with WFH, it's especially dead.

One of my big unpopular opinions is that the show was better when it was just Jamie and Adam, at least the early years. I never watched the late years where they axed them (I think the show was basically done at that point anyway)

I don't even watch 50 movies in a year... that would be about one a week. It just seems like a lot of time to me to sit down doing one thing. Yeah it's not a lot of total hours compared to time I spend gaming, but you can jump in and out of that at your own pace

I know some people multitask while watching too, but for me I feel like I need my full attention focused if I'm gonna watch something. I guess for shitty movies it's doable

Getting pedantic over people using the term "developers" to mean "anyone who is involved in putting out games", yet calling physical releases "pointless".

Like I get what you're saying, but I'm gonna be you. There is literally data on the discs that installs the game onto the console, so they aren't pointless. And since discs can't be printed the same day they are shipped out, that's part of the reason for day 1 patches.

What if I'm already both

I get why day 1 patches are annoying when you just want to play the game, but if it's day 1 that basically is meeting release imo. My guess would be just that they have to get discs printed ahead of time and maybe there is also some lead time to getting them on digital store fronts but updates are more lenient.

Then again it just begs the question of why not just plan for this, since I'm sure in the past the finish date was really planned to be weeks before actual release date

Bezos seems like he treats his employees the worst but otherwise is pretty "ordinary" asshole billionaire (likes owning yachts, etc.)

Zuckerberg probably treats his employees least bad of the three but his product has done the most harm to society

Elon is kind of a little bit of everything that's awful about billionaires; the inheritance, abusing workers, transparently self-interested reactionary politics, horrible sociopathic stuff (animal and sexual abuse)

I guess Bezos is least bad of those three. And Amazon is actually at least useful
