I hated Final Destination -- but then again, I kind of dislike the majority of the early naughties.
I also added to any film that I didn't rank -- if it's in italics I've seen it, but forgot it mostly, and if it's in bold then I definitely have planned on watching it/hopefully will watch it sometime soon

None of these is my biggest worry. I have a strong immune system, I have a job/food/money, etc.

I'm more worried that I'll contract it, not show symptoms, and spread it to patients at my work. I work at a women and children's hospital that also houses adult bone marrow transplant patients. There are lots of severely immunocompromised patients at my work -- and I'd feel like an ass if I gave it to them.

He is definitely not misogynistic. He frequently says that men are the inferior gender and that men are disgusting. He doesn't even say it as a joke, he honestly thinks it.

Okay? So he just hates fat women, feminists, and vegetarian women then. But in shape women he thinks are better than men. check.

He's a fat-shamer and kind of has no fucking clue what he's talking about in regards to counseling. He's also arguably classist, and says tons of misogynistic shit all the time. He's like an evolved form of a red piller. He's a good host, though - and knows how to interview people well/is a good speaker.

I'd say like 3/10. He'd be 1/10 if it weren't for the latter part of my response.

Human Centipede 3 above John Carpenters Halloween and The Thing?

https://i.imgur.com/FhncUlN.gifv

They're both boring movies. I recently rewatched the thing for the first time in like 20 years and it feels whatever to me; i know it's heralded for its practical effects, but there are plenty of movies where i enjoy the practical effects as much - if not more (the reanimator, slime city, the toxic avenger, street trash, etc.). As for Halloween - yeah, it's a good film but it's boring. I'd much, much rather watch Black Christmas.

Whereas human centipede 3 is hilarious, fast paced, and fun. The actor fully committed to the role - and the absurdity of the film wasn't subdued like the first in the series, and it didn't feel like it was trying so hard as the second

Edit: i also stated this is mostly a subjective ranking of how much i enjoy them or appreciate them - not how well made the films are.

On your didn't watch list I'd recommend, from the top, Exorcist 3, Sunshine, Bone Tomahawk, It Comes At Night (because you seem to like A24 stuff so far) and absolutely Jacob's Ladder.

I'll check out Exorcist 3 for sure, and I'll look into Sunshine. I've tried watching Bone Tomahawk in the past and got kind of bored with it. I've had It Comes At Night on in the background before and it never caught my interest, either. I've seen Jacob's Ladder a few times when I was younger - I just don't remember it well. I just hate that it popularized the dumb demon shakes.

Horror is one of those genres that by its nature is gonna have a lot of overlap, so for me I tend to look at horror films less under the lens of originality (Although when there is something original, that's great), and more under the lens of how it was executed, so I don't mind if Roth took stuff from other films necessarily, just use them well if that's what you're gonna do, lol.

I do wanna check out more of his work. I think more than anything, I was disappointed with how not shocking The Green Inferno was. Everyone acted like it and other Roth films were just the most disgusting, fucked up things ever, and outside of one or two scenes, it really wasn't very gory or fucked up IMO. Maybe I'm just desensitized at this point, but really the only scene that even remotely seemed "fucked up" by horror movie standards was when the fat guy got eaten, but even then it was handled pretty goofy and wasn't as impactful as it could have been.

Also "Oh no, they've got the munchies!" was one of the dumbest lines I've ever heard, lmao.

I agree that it's a let down for its shock factor. I mainly liked its visuals. The location and makeup were so great. I also liked some of the small details in the film, like the Betty Blue poster (even if it probably had no reason/purpose aside from Roth shouting "look at me, I have good taste!"). But yes - that joke was the worst. There are equally as bad jokes in Cabin Fever, even if Cabin Fever is a slightly more original and memorable film.

The Exorcist III is interesting. It's not great, but it's interesting. I'd really recommend giving it a watch.

I'm pretty sure it's on Tubi and Prime? I know it's on at least one or two of the streaming services I have. I plan on watching it at some point.

Green Inferno's the only one of his I've actually seen, I need to check out Hostel especially, and also Cabin Fever.

Cinematography wise, I agree, The Green Inferno was beautiful, and there was some interesting ideas there. Like, the idea of uninformed, blind activism being just as harmful as not doing anything? That's a really clever idea for a horror film. I just don't think he executed it well. He seems like the kind of guy who's better at coming up with a general cool idea than actually executing it to its full potential.

But again, I've only seen one of his films, so, grain of salt, etc.

I agree, honestly. That's partially what I meant about him being a good writer, but immature -- I guess. He has/had good ideas, but there are too many holes, not enough maturity/refinement, and tons of corny dick and fart jokes. Some people mistake him taking influence as him stealing ideas, too. Green Inferno's name is an homage to Cannibal Holocaust -- but its characters/themes aren't similar. Knock Knock is also very similar to an older grindhouse film - but it's definitely modernized, has a more horror tone. and uses Keanu to play up tons of laughs.

I mean, The Green Inferno isn't great IMO lol, but i still enjoyed it.

I just wish the first half of it wasn't so damn slow. Like, practically nothing happens for the first 40 minutes.

I think Eli Roth gets shit on too much unnecessarily. He's a very competent director and writer. Green Inferno was a gorgeous film, tbh. He's just immature, and his lame potty humor kind of works against most of his films. You can tell he's kind of a doucher. But I love Knock Knock -- and Green Inferno, Cabin Fever, and Hostel are all solid 6 or 7/10 films.

Honestly, the only movie anybody's named that I remember well enough to rank that I actually think is a "bad" movie is eXistenZ (1999). Everything else I've ranked is at least above average, guys. So even if something is low doesn't mean I think it's bad. It's also my subjective ranking, not my objective rankings.

How am I trippin? Tim Heidecker, Eric Wereheim, and Eric Andre are all brilliant satirists. As far as Tom Green and Andy Milonakis go - the satire isn't exactly brilliant, but I find their humor far more entertaining and funny than anything Chappelle's ever done.
