bobbaaay 10/06/22 2:20:30 AM #3 | Yes. I have had a million nicknames in my life, and I'm sure I've been called Booby plenty of times when I was younger. Nowadays I go by Robert at work - so I rarely get the booby treatment. |

bobbaaay 10/06/22 2:16:19 AM #43 | Umbreon posted... The problem is, why is Little Mermaid getting extra strength hate compared to other live remakes? I thought both DID get a lot of hate? I remember seeing the Lion King being very divisive and some people completely trashing it, and some people (like my girlfriend) loving it. I also never saw anybody say anything positive about the Mulan remake. It's just easier to attach a political narrative to this, and I'm sure the critics being criticized are probably doubling down on their opinions to try and prove they're "not racist" after being accused of it. I could be wrong, though. There definitely are people on the right that are racist, and their opinion is fueled by racism. I'd agree there. |

bobbaaay 10/06/22 2:08:26 AM #39 | The whole thing is dumb af. The people complaining about the complaining are assuming that every single person who doesn't support the change is a racist, which is just another example of the simple minded hyperbole we get from the left all the time. They're right that Ariel's race has nothing to do with her character, though. They're also right that all the Malcolm X / Black Panther / Tiana comparisons are very, very stupid and lack any basic comprehension. The people against the change aren't all racist, even if some on the right are. Some of them have some weird ass nostalgia to some mediocre Disney film from their childhood and don't like change. They make valid points that all the live action remakes are lazy, though - and that Disney should be creating new IPs instead of lazily rehashing older millennial nostalgia. Really, though, Disney is garbage and parents should just be encouraging their kids to be watching better films rather than gobbling up Disney crap. But I guess these are the same parents that don't know shows and films exist elsewhere than Netflix and Disney+. |
