Christians supporting Trump as being the most in line with their values really underscores how positively ludicrous football politics have become.

Maybe on a personal level, but Trump's policies are far more in line with Christianity than Biden's (although I suspect much of it is just lip service). If you're a Christian, who are you going to support? A president who might have a checkered personal history, but vows to fight abortion and stands with the church on many issues? Or the guy who was in an administration that supported suing Christian business owners for wanting to exercise their religious beliefs and ardently advocates abortion? As everything else in politics, it's clearer the matter of being the lesser of two evils. And Trump is a much more staunch supporter of the church than some previous Republican candidates.

I'm not sure it's possible to screen out fraudulent votes if they're detected after being counted. Even if the FBI tomorrow discovered a widescale operation where a massive amount of fraud had been committed, I'm not sure whether they could logistically negate votes. If the impact was enough to influence the state, I imagine they'd have to somehow re-hold the election in that state.

I would say it's true that leftist ideas tend to represent the natural progression of our culture. I mean, if the right represents conservatism and tradition, then wouldn't it make sense? I still think that conservatives are necessary to keep us from making any drastic changes, but I tend to side more-so with the left. Culture is always changing. It can't really be stopped. Even with all the pushback, I think it really is inevitable that the left will win most of their causes.

That's a nonsensical, trollish argument. First, there's the obvious problem: rightism isn't static and leftism isn't necessarily innovative. Likewise, "progress" when it comes to societies is a manipulative, meaningless term. And, as anybody who stayed awake during a history class should be able to tell you, change can go in any direction. Even when one side clamps down a social issue pushing it more towards a tradition, that's a form of change. Change is neither inherently good nor bad since, for the most part, things can always get either better or worse. And the long-term impacts of change are rarely ever immediately felt.

Second, both sides are heavily driven by outside influencers rather than anything strictly organic. And this doesn't just come down to liberals and conservatives trying to peddle their influence via media, etc, but also foreign influences.

Other than that, the left-right paradigm is a generally silly oversimplication, Neither rightism or leftism exists in one flavor.

Hero? I Quit A Long Time Ago chapter 226 is up and... the Warlander Emperor shit is already over. The past few chapters were a curbstomp where Zero kicked WE through the Earth (somehow not doing catastrophic damage to the planet), WE demonstrated he could punch a whole through a moon then that same punch did nothing to Zero, WE tried the punch again finding that Zero's Ender Sword had blocked the previous strike as well, and then Zero used Ender to to kill WE in one attack while WE was trying to use some giant energy attack. While the fight was across 3-4 chapters, it kinda feels like other fights took longer... although Zero usually isn't in his Zero identity and isn't using a sword that vastly surpasses his 4 Celestial Swords (all of whom, along with their 4 counterparts, stopped their fighting to watch and acknowledge how much stronger the other sword was).

Of course, it remains to be seen whether this is actually Zero's *strongest* weapon/attack... and whether Ender also has a sword spirit that will turn out to be a chick which has kinda been the running theme with all of his weapons.

Given that this probably just about wraps up the story arc, I'm kinda curious what they're going to do next because he could stay reunited with the parallel-world version of his lost love (albeit she's far, far, far older than him now, even if she doesn't look it)

Oh, and Jinmen is up to c29 now and they've kinda walked back the superhero thing -- at least for the zookeepers -- by revealing that the transformation drug makes them dangerous to the humans as well, so it's not simply a matter of going all superhero... although I have a feeling Masato still might (who ends the last chapter by asking the killer elephant Hanayo whether he (Masato) should focus on saving the humans or the animals. Neither Hanayo nor the humans know what to make of that kind of a question.) Mild cliffhanger ending, with Masato grabbing Hanayo's leg to try to stop him from walking away.

I will note that the art in that chapter makes the action borderline incomprehensible at times. Probably one of my biggest criticisms of the series as a whole.

Zeus_LLC

It's a complicated question. Government forms, for instance, often don't recognize "Jewish" as its own category and instead the closest category would be "white" (a category that also pulls in Arabs in the absence of a more nuanced choice -- which also means that Egyptians, whose home country is in Africa, aren't classified as "African-Americans" because the concept instead refers to Sub-Saharan Africans; in short, political correctness makes shit confusing).

Informationally, a lot of groups the government tries to simplify as "white" aren't considered white. And historically a lot of groups we consider white today weren't considered white in the past.

ParanoidObsessive posted...
The question effectively becomes meaningless unless you clarify whether or not you're referring to Judaism as a religion/philosophy/culture/identity or if you're limiting discussion solely to an ethnic definition. But even if you just stick to "race" as opposed to ideology, you're still hitting the roadblock of asking exactly what a Jew IS.

In the context of "Jewish people" it can be safely assumed that ethnic origin is being discussed. Granted, you could have a sub-discussion of how the religion itself treats ethnic origin since only people with a Jewish mother are considered Jewish (aka matrilineality).

So I've watched both of them and, all things considered, that "two hour" Biden Town Hall might have been barely over an hour when you took out all of the breaks. That was fucking insane.

The Trump "Town Hall" was basically a one-on-one interview for the first half, then a town hall for the second. When pressed, Trump once again denounced white supremacists and mentioned his commitment to denouncing white supremacists. When pushed on QAnon, he never gave a straight answer and instead argued that he didn't know enough about them to say anything like that. The moderator kept on Trump the whole time, frequently interrupting his responses. While there was *some* benefit to it -- in terms of trying to get harder answers -- it heavily detracted from from the time he should have been using to answer questions from audience members.

The Biden Town Hall was the complete opposite. Biden was given audience questions from the get-go with relatively little interruption from George early on. George did press him on a few things, but we didn't really get answers in many of those cases. In the early going, Biden was very composed, but that gradually faded as the town hall continued and some of his responses had some noticeable fumbles and a few moments seemed borderline incoherent. I half feel that the commercial breaks were there to give him a break because they seemed to pick up in frequency the more he began to exhibit problems.

I'm not sure either town hall had much of a high point, but the respective low points were Trump's QAnon response and Biden's desperate, incoherent answer to that young black voter who talked about many black voters choosing between voting for Biden or not voting at all. Thankfully that whole exchange didn't end with his offer to continue the discussion afterward, because that would have been a way to go out.

Republican Trump voter asked Biden about the crime bill he signed, which was kind of a hit job. Biden is kinda defending parts of it and then saying, "Well, the Federal part was okay, the states used it wrong."

Biden is starting to sound a lot like Trump when he's talking about community policing. Then after that he's talking about shooting suspects in the leg and calling cops teachers.

Second break. Biden started strong but his demeanor and behavior keeps changing.

SCOTUS question. Asking about request for safeguards against SCOTUS.

George: "The president is president for all four years, isn't he?"
Biden: "He is..." but blah blah blah weaksauce

And Biden again refuses to answer packing the court... and then he goes, "Well, I haven't been a fan," and then George goes, "Are you still not a fan?", and then Biden demurs, suggesting he'll go through with packing it depending on "how it's handled"... and then he goes into something unrelated.

George: "Looks like they're going to vote on it around Halloween."
Biden: "Perfect day." XD

And Biden is very strongly suggesting that he's going to pack the court and doesn't want to commit to it because it will "distract from what Trump is doing".

Third break? As the night goes on, Biden gets more entertaining.

Fracking question. Biden starts by explaining he's not for banning fracking. Immediately segues to renewable energy discussion.

George notes that a lot of people don't believe Biden's denial. Then George pushes Biden on his support of the GND.

Biden noted that the GND isn't realistic, then started jumping all over the place including going on a tangent about the Amazon. I need to rewatch that part specifically but it's hard to pinpoint that moment since the overall stream looks to be 5 hours long.

Another break? We just came off a break.

Biden is asked if Trump's foreign policy deserves credit for peace breaking out in the world, triggering a long rant.

Softball LGBT question which he softball answers.

Break again. This isn't so much "two hours" as it is maybe one hour content, one hour commercials.

"If you lose, how will you use your platform to (move us closer to the ideals, etc)"

Didn't give much of an answer to what he'd actually do. These non-answers are helping this town hall feel like a real debate >_>

Break!!

Keep seeing the same commercials (again, hard to skip them given the huge length of the video).

The after break was maybe a minute long and just asking about the next debate.

idk, the Biden town hall started pretty strong but gradually weakened and it felt like they kept making the commercial breaks more frequent and longer.

Interview between Vanity Fair (VF) and a Republican strategist for GWB and Mitt Romney, Stuart Stevens (SS). Relevant to what you said...

The problem with that assessment is that the economic expansion had little or nothing to do with the tax cut and was instead largely the result of the dotcom boom which later became the dotcom bust. You also had a series of trade deals which gutted American labor which also played something of a hand because it vastly reduced the costs of goods by outsourcing the labor to countries with lower safety regulations, cheaper labor, etc -- trade deals that were facilitated by REMOVING tariffs (ie, taxes) that existed to help keep US labor, etc, competitive against nations that weren't as heavily regulated as us (which, by the way, was a move more in keeping with free-market Republicans and libertarians than Democrats).

Kind of a general side-discussion that I'm not really going to get that into atm because I want to finish watching this.

Midway through the commercials I remembered, "Oh yeah, I'm not watching this live," and realized I could just fast-forward... although given the length of the stream it's a little hard to get the timing right.

...and did Biden just start his response with a suicide joke? >_>

Otherwise he's really fumbling in his response to the African-American voter. He's been very noticeably tripping over his words at times. Wow, and it just gets worse and worse. He shut his eyes for a moment while gesturing. I don't get it, he was being pretty coherent prior to this. This is surprisingly rough. And wow, that bank loan remark... it seems like he caught himself and started to change things up. At this point I'm not sure if he's trying to argue why black people should vote for him or why they shouldn't vote for him. "Because you know, and for example, if in fact you and I were the same age, and if we split our differences around the same age," >_>

I love the questioner's deadpan expression during all of this. At the end, George asks, "Did you hear what you needed to hear?" and, with a pained expression on his face, the man answers, "I think so." Then Biden immediately offers to talk to him afterward.

jfc, that was painful.

Biden: "Americans don't panic"
Americans: "WE NEED MORE TOILET PAPER!!!"

George calls out Biden on his claim he was talking about shit in January and February, after which he walked it back. >_>

At any rate, Biden is being very slow to actually answer the question. He's had a lot of complaints about this and that, but he has yet to say much he would have done differently.

And right now Biden is saying, "Oh, I didn't feel like there was a need for a lockdown," despite him talking about lockdowns >_>

Biden keeps falling into the, "Oh, you need the government to provide money to these businesses and schools." What? And most of the provisions aren't really practical.

As I'm watching his long answer to the second question, once again I'm reminded by how little time Trump had to answer ANY question before the moderator cut him off and moved things off on a tangent. By contrast, Biden's moderator is calm, respectful, collected, and lets him finish sentences before asking questions.

It's also weird that Biden talks about mandates and then immediately admits mandates aren't really enforceable. What?

George: "Is it wise to raise taxes like that when the economy is in the state it is?"
Biden: "Absolutely." Then he starts making crazy claims about the taxes jumpstarting the economy.

Biden is going into the whole "made in America" spiel.

Just hit the first commercial break. The Town Halls are like night and day. The moderator is barely talking on ABC whereas it almost seemed they talked more than Trump on NBC.

The setting for the Biden event looks so different, with that tiny arena and big almost-empty stands where I didn't see anybody at first. However, one thing is very different -- right from the get-go the audience is asking questions, not the moderator.

Woman asking the question -- who talks about voting for Hillary in 16 and probably for Biden in 20 -- complimented Trump's smile.

Of course BIden supporters are more likely to view these things. That's why you see stats like Biden voters are more likely to have things like college degrees.

Biden: 317k
Trump: 183k

Literally doesn't understand a word I fucking say, then asserts something completely different. Or do you somehow think this is only on streaming?

Pft, Trump can't even get 300k viewers.

Comes back to the previous: "Literally doesn't understand a word I fucking say, asserts something completely different."

I kinda suspect that the Biden demographic is a lot more likely to watch on streaming which makes an apples-to-apples comparison hard.

The moderator is really hammering into Trump.

I have it both open but only the Trump one is actually running. Kinda wondering if it counts for both.

The Trump "Town Hall" has basically just been an interview atm instead of an actual town hall. It's been entertaining so far.

SpeedDemon20 posted...
Why didn't they just have another debate? Why two separate events? And at the same time?

Because they decided to switch the rules so Trump said, "Fuck it," so both candidates decided to do their own thing.

Sounds too lonely for me. I think I'd want to die in a crowd, preferably from something cool happening like a falling comet or some crazy Final Destination event

Vice is a joke.

He describes how some writers note on a female characters attractiveness but never for the males and it isn't a one off notice.

Which is a silly SJW complaint.

Full Throttle posted...
He said one write wrote of a female character being "beautiful and strong with nice bosoms" and another mentions a jrpg character, Angela from Trials of Mana and how HOT she was when she does a special move as he described it 'creepy'

He said he just wanted to give an imaginary FACE SLAP to that writer.

You mean a SJW wanted to get violent over speech? I'm shocked! -_-

Full Throttle posted...
In another jrpg game, FBA Fire Emblem, he says the writer notes that you should ONLY choose male characters and to not pick female ones or you'll have a REAL challenge

...isn't there a functional difference in gameplay in those games based on gender? If so, the initial comment is focused on legit gameplay whereas he's focused on virtue-signalling.

Yes, and we should also move elections to Saturday for good measure.

Saturdays are literally the busiest days of the week for many businesses.

State and local governments target predominantly poor and minority neighborhoods to close polling stations since they tend to heavily lean Democrat. You haven't encountered this because you don't live in one of these neighborhoods.

A largely bullshit claim considering that it overlooks that this isn't a problem in most places that also fit the description and that there are countless other factors influencing it (including turnout during non-presidential elections and the large amount of support). And, I should mention, I've lived in predominately minority areas where I didn't have any problem either because -- once again -- the stories about long lines are extreme outliers just like most things you see on the news.

Archgoat posted...
Yes, it should be for a few reasons, but it won't solve all issues and most people that work retail or food industry would still have to work like most other holidays. However, having it a national holiday would increase turn-out, which I think most people would think is a good thing. Also, USA probably has the fewest national holidays, so adding another is not that big of deal, we probably should have more days off throughout the year.

It very likely won't do much to improve turnout.

Spreadsheets are fun?

They're a necessity, both for other work I do and then for managing data.

Of course, if we're talking about fun with computers back then, we had Doom, Duke Nukem, Prince of Persia -- all of which kids today should know from the numerous sequels they received. Then there are a lot of titles I'm sure we all remember but younger folk wouldn't have heard about, like Hugo's House of Horrors (which I never beat). Back in the 80s, I didn't have recreational use of a computer so I'm not sure what scene looked like, outside of maybe stuff like King's Quest and Oregon Trail. There was also this one game I seem to recall that ended with a fight against a black knight who could give you a "sound drumming" but that might have even been one of the King's Quests because everything blurs together after a while. Not to mention the 80s (and early 90s) I think I was more gaming in arcades than anywhere.

Holy shit, I didn't realize Super Breakout was on the pc back then?! Why didn't anybody tell me?!

And if not Excel, what were you using for spreadsheets back then? Because back when I started using Excel in the 90s, I wasn't really all that aware of other options. (As opposed to nowadays where if I'm at home -- or working for a cheaper company -- I use Apache OpenOffice (iirc, the part of the package is called Calc, which is a counterintuitive name))

They just keep reposting and quoting the same lies until someone starts to believe them.

And then they parrot the lies each other tells and agree with one another, as well as claiming that they heard the lie they created from somewhere else. And in Mead's case, he's temporarily apologize, claim it was a mistake, then waits a while before repeating the same shit-- and then point out, "Oh, other people have heard it!" (from him) It's a very deliberate tactic.
