Personally, I think it sounds fine. Not a big difference, but it does sound clearer. I actually do slightly prefer the one you suggested. Looks like we're not in unanimous agreement, however. Maybe poll everyone at large on which one they prefer/hj

About that was my nomination (courtesy of azuarc) for one of last year's Supra contests, and it received 2nd place. This type of music doesn't always do it for me, but About That just clicks. The fun vocals, the funky bass, and that smooth sax solo make the song really memorable.

Staff Roll is just one of my all-time favorite songs from the N64. It doesn't usually quite reach the same heights for me as a certain other song of the same name from Super Mario 64, but it still is one of those bittersweet songs that I easily become nostalgic for despite having been too young to grow up with the N64.

It kinda reminds me of how someone nominated Ocarina of Time - Title Theme last year, and I regret not telling that person I loved that song despite having no plans to support it. Waveshine gave me three joke songs, a song that was kind of a joke, and Forest Interlude. Actually, it was my idea I told her it would be funny if I wound up ranking one of the jokes high. And here we are, with this little kazoo song outperforming 271 other songs, including songs from acclaimed soundtracks like Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario Galaxy, Genshin Impact, Nier, Kingdom Hearts, Undertale, and yes, even Donkey Kong Country 2, the rankings only retired song. Yet here we are.

I dont think I need to justify any of my opinions in this topic this is my ranking, after all. But some of you might be scratching your heads at this one, at how this much maligned kazoo song got such a huge placement. Ill just say that I dont love anything ironically when I love something, I love it with my whole heart. And I really love this song. (Yes, I used the word love even though its an 8.5 and not a 9! Im unpredictable like that.) Ive said before that I love songs at the intersection of wistful and happy, and nothing perhaps encapsulates that dichotomy more in this ranking than Title Screen. The Yoshi series has always stood out for feeling childlike and a little sad, and this song, with its plaintive strumming guitar, does a wonderful job at evoking those emotions in me. People always complain about the kazoo in this song, but its so whimsical that it works remarkably well. And those drums and maracasreally, everything is doing heavy lifting here.

Thats why I love it. Thats why I ranked it higher than 90% of the rest of the list. Ill leave you with this: if it were longer and more developed, it might have snuck into the top ten.

Because you didn't wait one more day to post this until April Fools, I will post my response on April Fools. That's pretty cool that you unironically like this song, though I can't help but find it funny that my joke nom is the one that made it the farthest.

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Forest Interlude

Our only retiree nomination is the first 8.5 out. An SNES classic, Forest Interlude has a stellar melody, excellent bass and drumming, and those blissful environmental effects. Its funny featuring this right after Beautiful Star, because I feel like those two songs are cut from similar cloth, but I very clearly favor Forest Interlude. Its not quite at the level of Stickerbush Symphony or Donkey Kong Rescued, quite possibly my favorite DKC2 track, but its still really, really damn satisfying to listen to. This is Donkey Kong Country at its mellowest and simultaneously most engaging.

Forest Interlude is also my second favorite behind Stickerbush Symphony. Thank you for mentioning "the thing" without making it too obvious.

Another observation, all three Honkai songs have been out for a while and the two Genshin songs are still standing strong. Get rekt, Star Rail converts. (Genshin also represents P0's last track left, and it's about the last song I would have nominated for anything...but I totally get why it's here, and why it's still to-be-revealed.)

Most of my friends converted from Genshin players to Star Rail players due to the former going downhill (according to them) in terms of how the company has been treating its fans. I don't think they'll ever deny Genshin music itself is still stellar though. I myself was a bit of a Genshin player back when it first came out. I don't have plans to ever go back regularly, but I sure do have plans to finish the soundtrack!

I also do find it funny you say this considering how much you adore Wildfire from Honkai (from my understanding, you seemed to love that song even more than I've ever seen you love a Genshin song but I could be wrong).

Forest Interlude is another contender though I do believe it's behind Bastion in particular as far as recognizability goes. It's still up there though.

It would be really funny if Oh dear, you are dead! or 25M was nominated for this given how short those songs already are even in their full versions. I see the game over jingle from Super Mario Bros. was nominated though, so that's gonna be fun to see ranked.

It won one round. That's hardly "killing it." If it beats the Naganuma track in R2, then sure.

To be fair, it didn't just beat one song. In order to win round 1, it had to beat two other songs. It beat two songs in round 1 by a fairly good number. It wasn't even that close of a match between the first and second place of that round.

Ah I suppose that makes sense! I could see it making it to r3, but it also feels like a song that could easily lose r1 depending on its opponent.

I will probably get a lot of s*** for having this so low. But honestly its just not for me. It reminds me of #300, Breathing Underwater, in that feels like a typical modern pop/rock song, and I have a hard time with those. Its just likeI dunno, kind of there? The vocals are a big detriment for me, but couple them with this uninspiring instrumental and its likeI dunno, just not interesting to me. Its a perfectly fine song. Im sure I will come to like it less after repeated exposure when it gets to round 3 in VGMC.

I like how you mention VGMC as if Wildfire isn't killing it in another contest right now (yes, I know a lot of GameFaqs users don't know about our Supra 2023 contest but still). Also, why round 3 in VGMC? That feels oddly specific haha

Pokemon Sword/Shield - Battle! Galarians Legendary Birds

This song is messy with a capital Mess. The mixing is all off and there are whole chunks that dont seem to fit together at all. But the second half is actually really cool! The flying effects (Pokemon cries?) are integrated better, and theres some nice fake guitar and percussion. If the first half were more like the second, this would be much higher.

You know, I was expecting another drop since I had a bunch of joke noms. What I wasn't expecting was this. I was fully confident the next drop would be within the next day or so but it would be Yoshi's New Island instead. To think you put the kazoo song over this is kind of funny.

now I moved onto 295-291. even more of a mixed bag for me. the ace attorney song is one I've always liked, even though it definitely could have been gifted a better ... soundfont? probably not the right word but I think y'all get what I'm saying. a little higher pitched in spots, yeah.

I was a minute into the ballz 3D song. I had my laugh. I chortled a good bit. It's bad but like in a funny way, you know? I thought, surely the song will end soon. But no, it was like four fucking minutes. I can't believe the one thing stopping me from enjoying the overly sampled porno music was the length.

I already told skull this on discord but that seems to be more a problem with the upload than the song itself. I found an upload of the Ballz song that is 2 mins. Curious how this will affect your opinion:
