You need to talk to a guidance counselor, not PotD.

Look into certifications. There's millions of people who graduated with a degree in something that is not easy to build a career around. Certifications open doors and are cheaper and often easier than blindly looking for a job. Find something that pays the bills until you find something that truly fits what you wand to do.

I don't even necessarily disagree with your initial premise, but "You can go look it up for yourself" is rarely a valid defense of any position. If you care enough to make an assertion to people who never asked for your opinion in the first place, you're generally expected to support and defend said assertion. Because you're essentially asking other people to care, and you don't really accomplish that by telling other people to do unnecessary homework.

That exert also proves Congress isn't acting "above the law" like you're claiming, as their payment comes from a separate bill than the expired federal budget.

Your hole deepens.

By should their payment come from a separate bill? If theyre not being paid the same way as everyone else, then theyre not playing on the same field, so to speak, and are thus above the law.

What about members of Congress, political appointees and the president?

Heres what a Congressional Research Service report has to say: With regard to the Presidents pay, Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution forbids the salary of the President to be reduced while he or she is in office, thus effectively guaranteeing the President of compensation regardless of any shutdown action.

Congress would not be interrupted, since it is funded under one of the spending bills that already have passed.

Guidance from the Office of Personnel Management says the large majority of political appointees are not subject to furloughs because they are considered to be entitled to the pay of their offices solely by virtue of their status as an officer, rather than by virtue of the hours they work. In other words, their compensation is attached to their office, and, by necessary implication of the Presidents authority to appoint such employees, their service under such an appointment creates budgetary obligations without the need for additional statutory authorization. The exception is that the relatively few political appointees in the Senior Executive Service, under 1,000, are subject to being furloughed because they fall under the regular federal employee leave policies.

Just for shits and giggles, as I'm being asked to defend this claim even though anyone can just Google it.

All the senators and legislators still get paid, but the president and legislators on Capitol Hill still get their paychecks. They still get to relax and feed their families, pay their bills, and live comfortably while everyone else is scrambling to pay their bills and feed their family without a paycheck.

Next time we have a government shutdown, congressional salaries should be furloughed as well. Let these multimillionaires and billionaires sit high and tidy too. Not that itll do much as they have much more of a cushion to sit on, but at least its equal treatment. Theyre not above the law or better than everyone else.

https://www.npr.org/2018/12/27/680378836/after-deadly-tsunami-indonesia-extends-exclusion-zone-around-active-volcano

Indonesian authorities have increased the alert level around the Anak Krakatau volcano and rerouted flights after a series of eruptions that triggered a deadly tsunami over the weekend.

An exclusion zone around the volcano, located on an island in the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java, was extended to a 3-mile radius.

"All flights are rerouted due to Krakatau volcano ash on red alert," the government air traffic control agency AirNav said in a release quoted by Reuters.

The news agency quoted the country's civil aviation authority as saying no airports would be affected.

On Saturday, a section of the volcano's crater collapsed into the ocean, triggering tsunami waves of more than 6 1/2 feet that crashed into coastlines along the Sunda Strait, killing at least 430 people.

It was the second tsunami to hit Indonesia in the past three months.

Saturday's wave "swept over popular beaches on southern Sumatra and the western edge of Java, inundating tourist hotels and coastal towns, including Sumber Jaya, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake," according to Channel News Asia.

As The Associated Press notes, "The disaster struck without warning, taking people by surprise in a country that regularly suffers landslides, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. No earthquake shook the ground beforehand, and the waves surged inland at night on a holiday weekend while people were enjoying concerts and other beach and resort activities."

Since then, photos taken by Indonesia's National Agency for Disaster Management, or BNPB, show a layer of volcanic ash has settled on buildings and vehicles along the west coast of Java.

The Indonesian government has warned of further tsunami, cautioning nearby communities to stay at least 1 kilometer away from the coastline.

"Since December 23, activity has not stopped ... We anticipate a further escalation," said Antonius Ratdomopurbo, secretary of the geological agency, according to Reuters.

Heavy rains and high seas have hampered search efforts some of the dead have been found at sea. At least 159 are still missing, the AP reports. Nearly 20,000 people have been displaced by the tsunami and nearly 1,500 injured, according to Reuters.

As Reuters notes, "In 1883, [Krakatau] ... erupted in one of the biggest blasts in recorded history, killing more than 36,000 people in a series of tsunami and lowering the global surface temperature by one degree Celsius with its ash. Anak Krakatau is the island that emerged from the area in 1927 and has been growing ever since."

I'm me and know they are wrong. Easy as that. Pack your shit and leave instead of bringing down half of society because you're so stupid and offended. I've already said this is more than just whining about gov't. Like really, you're offended because of a white model in a catalog? That's not racism until you make it into a problem. Find something of value to protest.

Blame the people who can't make a decision. It's clear neither party is going to give in. The pres doesn't run EVERYTHING.

I don't vote so I'm indifferent about who is in office. It's the SJW's that should be deported because they are the ones pissing and moaning about the most inane things. Honestly I'd prefer immigrants over you, they'll be glad to be here. And they'll work while you sit to wait for handouts.

This is why I avoid politics. If people want to know what I really think, well... Prepare to be offended because I won't sugarcoat it.

So anyone who you don't agree with or approve of can just fuck off and leave?

If you are that threatened by the actions and opinions of other people that you would rather they just leave the country, then, personally, I feel that you need a good solid wakeup back into reality. People will never agree on everything, that's obvious. But you need to realize that just because people don't agree with each other doesn't mean either side needs to leave. The country and internet is big enough for both sides.

While you're right, the president doesn't run everything, he is the one who could've made a decision and compromised with the other side on this issue regarding the wall.

https://www.npr.org/2018/12/22/679424044/government-shuts-down-ahead-of-holiday-over-stalemate-on-border-wall-funding

The Senate has adjourned with no business in the chamber anticipated before Thursday afternoon and, maybe not even then, if congressional leaders and President Trump can't reach an agreement over the president's demand for $5 billion in funding for his border wall.

The House and Senate convened at noon Saturday, but no votes were scheduled and many lawmakers have already left town. House GOP leaders have advised lawmakers that they will be given 24 hours' notice of any planned vote.

In remarks on the Senate floor, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put the burden on Trump to cut a deal with House and Senate Democratic leaders, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. "When those negotiations produce a solution that is acceptable to all of those parties, it will receive a vote here on the Senate floor," McConnell said.

Why don't you vote?

So deport legal citizens just because they're exercising their right to free speech and peaceably protest? Do you have a source for this claim about handouts? I don't know about you, but I work for a living - I don't get handouts. I'm sure most of the "social justice warriors" work, too, or are students. Not everyone is a bum.

Maybe not that extreme but they need to be told to sit down and shut up. Their 'goal' is wrong and they whine about more than the pres. He's not doing a bad job but the trolls are against him out of spite. They make problems where there isn't one. So their right to complain needs to be curtailed. If they don't like it then leave.

Like I said I don't mind Trump, he's just doing a job. While I understand there are people in place to keep him from having too much control these same people are keeping him from getting pretty much anything done. Gov't is a mess and something I spend little time thinking or talking about.

Who the fuck are you to say that their "goal" is wrong? Even if you disagree with them, you have no right to say that they should "sit down and shut up". Also, really? "If they don't like it then leave"? They are just exercising their right to protest and criticize the president, as any citizen should as America was not built to be a fascist government, where any opposition is silenced.

DPsx7 posted...
That'd be ok if it were select policies. Here they're trashing a stupid picture. Kinda desperate to stoop that low, right? When it's not the pres it's something equally ridiculous.

Exactly. It's a stupid picture. A stupid attempt to garner sympathy and support from his fans as he's "having to sacrifice his vacation from golfing (again) to sign blank bills with a pen that's capped", while the government he's leading is shut down over a dispute that he won't compromise on.

The ironic thing about this, is that you people are bashing us and SJW's for criticizing Trump, when you and Trump followers did the same goddamn thing with Obama. Hell, Trump and his followers can't even move on from Obama and it's been over two years!

Personally, I have tried to support Trump, but his moronic actions and ideas aren't making it easy.

https://www.npr.org/2018/12/23/679599695/more-than-200-dead-hundreds-more-injured-after-tsunami-hits-indonesia

At least 222 people are dead and hundreds more are missing or injured, The Associated Press reports, after a tsunami struck Indonesia late Saturday night local time.

The death toll is expected to rise.

Officials there are blaming the tsunami on underwater landslides caused by volcanic activity on the island of Anak Krakatau, which erupted just after 9 p.m. local time. The tsunami struck around the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra, the two most populous islands in Indonesia.

Footage shared by news outlets and social media show a wave hitting a seaside concert by Indonesian pop rock band Seventeen at a resort on Java, washing away the stage and many people along with it.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho from Indonesia's disaster management said on Twitter that 556 houses were destroyed.

NPR's Michael Sullivan told host Lulu Garcia-Navarro on Weekend Edition that the tsunami was small, with reports of its height between 3 and 7 feet.

"But on the other hand, it's a very populous island, Java, and Sumatra is also populous in that region, and people tend to build close to the beach," Sullivan said. "So even a small wave, if it's forceful enough, causes the damage we saw in that video."

Red Cross volunteers are helping rescue survivors and recover bodies in Sumatra and Java, according to the International Federation of the Red Cross.

Norwegian photographer ystein L. Andersen was capturing images of Anak Krakatau from the beach when the tsunami hit, he said on Facebook.

"I had to run, as the wave passed the beach and landed 15-20m inland," he wrote. "Managed to evacuate with my family to higher ground trough forest paths and villages, where we are taken care of my the locals. Were unharmed, thankfully."

The 1883 eruption of nearby Krakatoa killed more than 30,000 people. Anak Krakatau, the "son of Krakatoa," emerged from the spot where the island of Rakata had been before that eruption.

Anak Krakatau has seen a series of minor eruptions for several months.

An earthquake and tsunami struck the Sulawesi island city of Palu in September, killing more than 1,700 people.

The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which was triggered by an earthquake, killed about 226,000.
