Also it turns out I completely skipped Caria Manor because I didn't realize I could just...like...run past the magic spells. I just took blacksmith dude at his word when he said not to go there and assumed I'd need some special item/teleporter for getting in. I decided to try rising my horse in on a whim since I was low on runes and realized I'm dumb.

Dragon battles continue to suck though. Tried fighting the one outside Ranni's Rise, and it felt incredibly janky. The dragon would land on random stuff causing it to be way up in the air, and it kept leaving the area it's supposed to be in and phasing out (then phasing back in at its default spawn point). Then it finally phased back out permanently and I couldn't get it to reappear, even after resting at a grace.

The platforming sucks, but horse platforming is much worse.

I mean what's stopping you from changing weapons? There's tons of the things lying around, especially Faith ones in Limgrave. If you're doing Liurnia though you'll be finding a lot of sorcery stuff, that's why.

Sacred Seals are a lot rarer but there are a couple in Limgrave and the areas past Liurnia.

I think I found like...four that scaled with faith? The Tree Sentinel's weapon requires 30 strength, the Erdsteel Dagger sucks, and the Winged Scythe seemed maybe okay, but I couldn't get used to it.

I think the other thing is that it's hard to compare how powerful a weapon is against my current sword when my sword is +7 and the other weapons aren't.

I'm still using the straight sword and finger seal that I started with as a confessor and it kinda feels like I should've changed weapons by now? The only thing that's changed is that I've upgraded them and changed the ash of war so that my sword scales with faith too.

Also after fighting the second dragon, I've come to the conclusion that horseback combat kinda sucks. Very boring to bait the breath attack and then run around and slice the back of the dragon's leg 15 times.

So I've only a little bit of DS1 and started playing this game. I'm about 38 hours in and was struggling to beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit at the bottom of Fringefolk Hero's Grave; I basically never got it below half health over the course of 40 tries.

Finally decided to remove my armor and try light load, since I'd been running med load all game.

I beat it first try. What the fuck. Have I just been playing this game entirely wrong?

I am kinda hyped for the deck. Mine's not due until after Q2, and I'm hoping that a lot of the software issues will be ironed out by then.

GamersNexus gave it a pretty positive review aside from the fact that it seems like SteamOS and the UI need work (which can be fixed with updates).

2013 was good. The bow was fun/satisfying to use, setpieces were solid, and it felt compelling enough story-wise.

Rise is a definite step down. I played it fairly recently and made the mistake of trying to get all the collectibles (which I did in Tomb Raider 2013). It's a terrible slog to get everything, the story is worse, and maybe this is just me, but the controls/handling didn't feel as good.

Never played Shadow and probably never will.
