You have to be consistent with children, because they pay attention to how you react. They will model you. I don't go straight for the spanking, and I explain why I don't spank right away. I've only gotten to the spanking stage a couple times. Of course he cries, but always knows why it happened, and agrees to not do the thing again. Usually, time out is enough, as he doesn't like setting doing zilch, just waiting on the timer to go off. ^that's exactly how spanking can be used positively and effectively IMO. Nice job. I personally believe that spanking can be positive and effective when used as a sort of last resort form of discipline, when the parents have told the child why they are being spanked, when the child has been previously warned, when the child understands why they are being spanked, when the parents aren't spanking while they're angry, when they're not leaving any kind of permanent damage on the child, and when they're spanking only on the butt.
