The woman in the story wasn't exactly pretty to look at, and when the story also confirmed her vial personality (exploiting self-harm as a way to constantly get her way), it makes it easier to care less about someone when you might not be as harsh when referring exclusively to appearance. If the story was about her saving a kitten from a fire, the comments would probably be drastically different, much like your example. --- Belles, belles, belles! |
