I'm taking an online class-type thing for about a week and a half, so updates will once again be spares. Also they will almost entirely feature....

Wifebolo surprised me with Kirby and the Forgotten Land! I wanted to get it eventually and work it into the rotation all proper-like, but hey, what am I gonna do, not play it? I figure I'll spend what little fun time I get this week on it then give it an actual spot. For as much as I like Kirby, I've not actually played that much of the series, especially the modern ones, so I'm looking forward to fixing that. I'm just into the second world I reckon, and playing on Wild since it's Kirby and those aren't hard in my experience. I might try to get all the Waddle Dees but I've already gotten annoyed trying to get all the Treasure Road target times since they don't appear to give me much anyway. This is a blast! I like the vibe and all the little touches, and I wasn't sure about Mouthful Mode beforehand but it cracks me up.

Emma: these engagements out of nowhere, man

Aria 3-8- The Memories of that Precious Person...: This one didn't quite land- the setup was a lot darker than usual, with Athena and Alice getting in a fight and then the former contracting amnesia. (by...slipping on a banana peel, played for drama) Alice feels like crap all episode and then Athena reveals it was all a ruse to ascertain her feelings. Feels oddly mean for Athena, not to mention she just kinda turned off her absentmindedness while she was pretending, and overall it was just kinda weirdly negative relative to the show.

LttP: Just kinda wandering around seeing if I could find anything neat with my new glove (just some rupees and such)

Officially throwing in the towel on Stardew Valley (tbf it's been over a year >_>) because my mousepad doesn't work properly and I can't get either of my controllers to rebind to buttons that make sense. Kinda a bummer.

This round of B8 randomizers is done on my end, woo. OoT did indeed wrap up with little accomplishment on my end (I dang tried though!) I got to the boss of Fire Temple, did some sidequesty stuff in Goron City, got just far enough in Forest Temple to meet the Wallmasters, and just kinda generally screwed around ineffectually looking for stuff to do. It took a long time for me to find the Temple of Time and I never got the Song of Time, so I spent like 80% of the run stuck as a kid. Got Biggoron's Hammer and Hookshot and Hover Boots all kinda early though, I think, and enjoyed all of them immensely. I am not sure I am cut out for OoT but it does seem fun so I might at least try nilla at some point. But! I have the Zelda itch again (as is regularly scheduled for like a couple weeks every five years) so I think I want to learn LttP. I've started the base game on Switch and have a few resources up my sleeve for learning rando after that (or if I get impatient and decide to try it before I've finished >_>)

Les Mis: I do still really like Javert, which is odd since I'm not the type to get into antagonists often.

Pokemon Snap: Not entirely sure what to do next- the prof is bugging me for an island Crystabloom but I can't find a lit one. I found Illumina Frillish, which seems relevant but I can't get it to do much of anything. But it's fun even if I'm not progressing much!

B8 multiworld randomizer is going again. Beat my Slay the Spire in only two tries without a giant boatload of outside stuff, so that redeems my poor key run from last time I reckon! For spice, though, I'm trying OoT as well...which is another where I don't actually know the vanilla. But I gave myself baby Triforce Hunt settings, so even if I completely fail I'll probably win eventually. Which is good because I'm running out of obvious (to me) things to do >_>

It looks like Lucha Underground isn't up on Tubi anymore, RIP :\ I don't really want to add another subscription right now sooooo I guess no more wrasslin' for a bit.

Roahm plays Spyro 8-12: An ice level that isn't super annoying with the ice physics, spiffy! I like the level design and general vibe of this game- the levels are just busy enough to stay interesting without feeling super crowded or hectic. Kinda a comfy vibe, more about exploration than challenge. Dr. Shemp was a bit tougher than the first boss I guess. Night Flight DOES look pretty tough, to be fair. I like the Magic Crafters aesthetic quite a bit.

Wildermyth: Got my butt kicked and lost several folks D: But I beat the Grand Matron at least I guess. I sacrificed my own character to slow down the robot dudes :(

it is SUMMER BREAK BAYBEEEEEE
theoretically that means less audiobooks and a lot more everything else! I did say that last year and not really deliver, but last year I had shakier mental health and most of my energy was going towards transition stuff that is mostly resolved by now!

Rain: It's been long enough that I have lost track of many of the plot points and minor characters, but....man, still hits the feels pretty hard. It wrapped up pretty recently so I'm looking forward to getting to the finish! Think she's doing other stuff so I'll check that out after.

Marble League 2017 e4-8: Nice to get back to this! For whatever reason, it continues to be easier to engage with than real sports. The Savage Speeders are way out in front but at least a lot of the teams I like are trading 2nd around!

Wifebolo had Cheer Up! Love and Pompoms out from the library and I finally had a sitdown with it myself. It's cute, and it's relatable despite being about high schoolers. Found myself nodding along with the trans one several times in a short book.

Emma: I accidentally got spoiled by a coloring book of all things, but I was starting to suspect we were gonna wind up there eventually anyway. Really don't get what anybody sees in Frank Churchill to begin with!

almost to the end of the school year wooo!

Emma: Chugging along. Kinda enjoying the parallel construction we seem to be going for with Mrs. Elton and Jane Fairfax. (who has won me over) I've gotten used to all the "satisfaction" and "intimacy" but sometimes she'll still drop phrases on me like "and suddenly he was making violent love to her" (he was confessing) or "there could be no doubt that the brothers had penetration" (insight).

Still having an easier time engaging with "whatever, let's kill a half hour" games than anything "official" in my rotation. Hoping that changes with work wrapping up, but in the meantime I've been into Wingspan and Vampire Survivors. Bailed on Rogue Legacy for the last Randomizer and did Slay the Spire....but had a heck of a time for some reason. I picked a Key run, not fully understanding what that meant, and I don't know why I found that SO much harder but it took me a lot of runs. Thankfully I didn't actually have to BEAT the final boss, because it was a struggle just to get there! Kinda OD'd on roguelike deckbuilders in the meantime. Played some FTL for the first time in forever, still kinda suck at it but might pick it back up.

Vampire Survivor: Beat Forest and got coffin! Got to 29:50 on Green Acres, kinda salty lol

Started Into the Breach! It is not quite what I was looking for, but it's also not what I thought it was, and it's also quite fun. I got to phase 2 of the final battle after some struggle runs, but couldn't hold out there for long. I've bumped it down to Easy for my current run and...it seems to live up to the name. Since Vampire Survivors isn't exactly relaxing, and since right before bed is my most common "let's do something fun and low impact" time, they'll kinda share that unofficial slot in the rotation for a while I think

Emma: We are alternating rapidly between lovely (unintentional?) queercoding and Office levels of pre-emptive secondhand embarrassment. Emma pls.

Tried Stacklands. Didn't actually care for it.

I signed up for Rogue Legacy in the next b8 multiworld randomizer, so I figured I should actually learn the game at least a little ahead of time. I am...not good at it. I almost gave up, but then I realized that part of the problem was unintuitive keyboard controls, and plugged in the controller I always forget I have. I have upgraded from "lost cause" to "noob!" It's a lot more fun now too. ....Still not sure signing up for it was a good idea, but in the worst case, forfeits are allowed I guess.

Vampire Survivor: Finally got the Randomazzo! Still can't get the coffin OR the W on the Forest though. But I did re-do my powerups in an effort to spend more efficiently, and that seems to have helped.

Vampire Survivors is still very addicting lol, although I'm starting to find it hard to progress. I've got maybe half the characters and a few of the secrets, but can't consistently win and don't have Stage 4.

we are past the hard part of the year! I'm not like, DONE, but things are back to average after being berserk

Bought, installed, and started messing with Vampire Survivors. It's....fun! Will slot nicely into the "eh I just wanna kill some time mindlessly" role on those days when even video games seem like a lot to handle. Got my first win, too! So far I like the Cross, Fire Breath, and Magic Wand.

Aria 3-7- In That Gently Passing Time...: Backstory ep, with the origins of Aria Company itself, and a new character who used to be Alicia's senpai before leaving to get married. We have a nice lil' multi-generational party with the past, present, and future of Aria. (how old is this cat, tho?)

I tried 5-D Chess. I'm...not great at it, but I might be able to figure it out eventually. I have the basic concepts, but not a great grasp of strategy, vision, or mating patterns. Isn't it just 4-D though, since there's no z-axis?

Sounds tough, congrats!

Pokemon Snap: Struggled a bunch with Volcarona but got it eventually. Not actually sure what needs to happen next for progress, but at least it's fun just to mess around.

Apollo Justice: Wrapped up case 1 (what do you call this, 4-1?) and started the next one. I'm kinda enjoying this version of Phoenix actually! I already like Trucy but I knew I would going in. Eldoon however did not immediately win me over, and I don't love having the pervy doctor guy back. I feel like Gavin's gonna come back around somehow, which I don't know how but if Dahlia managed it...

Another B8 randomizer going, this time I erred on the side of light commitment and tried the Minesweeperlike they made specifically for the program. It's....Minesweeper, alright. Pretty low pressure, and I could've done something else small alongside it, but oh well.

We are officially in busy season now! Had spring break, had my birthday, right into the thick of the musical I go. We're doing Legally Blonde, which I like but it's pretty hard and we're pretty underprepared.

Aria 3-6- That Extracurricular Lesson...: We lost the crunchyroll password for a while but finally managed to reset it, so we're back in business! Alice is on a mission to figure out if Alicia ever gets mad or scolds Akari. Conclusion: No, she's real big on the positive reinforcement. Some solid character work and lots of Aria-shachou derp.

Finished Reaper Man a while ago and moved on to Soul Music, which I am quite enjoying as a musician. "One of nature's drummers" gets me every time.

Lucha 1-34: Chavo promo, huzzah! Freshly turned Texano over Daivari despite Ryck. (**1/2) Sadly, we don't seem to be presenting Chavo as a major threat, it's all about Puma/Muertes, probably. I keep waiting for a Konnan heel turn, and I don't think that'll happen here but "if Konnan interferes Chavo gets the title" would be a cool setup for it. Lotta grudge matches today as Drago and Hernandez do a speed v. power kinda deal. Hernandez has been really leaning into the smug heel role, I kinda like it. Drago wins by DQ after Hernandez chokes him with a belt. I'm not sure I've seen a DQ before here? (***1/2) Muertes has words for Chavo, too. Alberto squashes Marty, pity. (N/A) Puma over Chavo rather quickly after Chavo suffers a mysterious injury and Texano wipes out the Crew. (**) Chavo also hecks around with Blue Demon and finds out. Who is Mexico, and what is this storyline?

Took the students to Disneyworld! It was not a complete dumpster fire like I had feared, and most of the dumpster firey stuff didn't relate to me specifically, so it wound up being a pretty good (albeit exhausting) time! My priorities seem to have shifted heavily from rides to shows and food (and getting to dang sit down and be in A/C once in a while) since last time, it's like I am getting older or something.

Pokemon Snap: Still having a blast! Got some new levels. Kinda hard to write this game up I guess, but it's really up my alley. I just like Pokemon themselves; what they are doing seems to be secondary.

Wildermyth: Not going too hot- I had my first two deaths of the game in fairly rapid succession. Second one I was just plain beaten, but the first one was some BS where, as best I can tell, the enemy's throw didn't check for obstacles, so my guy got thrown *through* walls two rooms away from the rest of my team, so he was immediately stuck in like a 3-on-1 with no hope of backup. They weren't my strongest, highest emotional investment guys, but neither were they randos that had just started (and most guys in the first category are starting to age out) so we're heading for a bad time I think. Gotta start actually using my LP!

Chrono Trigger: Actually I think this was a STEAM BATTLE winner somehow? Been a while, doesn't super matter. I have dabbled in roms and gotten pretty far on the DS version, but never beaten it. That changes here, I think! Although, I really like all the characters so I am gonna have trouble picking a party. At any rate, KRIS and NTRPT* (supposed to be Entrapta, but y'know, five characters) have successfully returned PEACH to her own time, and now I've gotta escort her to the castle where I am sure they will be very grateful! Some of the graphics and UI haven't aged suuuuper well, but the music holds up for sure, and the battle system is pretty neat. And you can pet the cat. Just now kinda getting into full gear, but looking forward to it! It invokes a lot of nostalgia for something I only ever got halfway through >_>

I LOVED the Punch-out parts, and heck I was just doing Punchout in TEW. Queen is great. Susie's great. Toriel's great. Everybody's great. Gonna be a long [however long chapter 3 takes]!

Pokemon Snap: I LOVE IT. They could've given me a remaster of the N64 game with some new Pokemon and maybe one more level and I would've been happy, but they've added some nice bells and whistles too. Having different "stars" is a nice way to have multiple scenarios of the same Pokemon, although I wish I could turn in one per level at a time, instead of one per Pokemon. I think I am discovering my interest in animals runs deeper than I initially realized, so Snap comes along at a good time to capitalize it- it's just, like, hanging out with cool fictional ones! Am already kinda hitting a progress wall though- not getting the Jungle Illumina Spot and running out of scores I can easily improve for more Research Levels. Not sure I quite understand the route switching mechanic either. But....it's just.....nice! And I need more nice in my life, I think.

Marble League 2017 3 (Fidget Spinner Collision): I love the little moments of character, like Shining Swarm riding the spinner, or the fan that rolled onto the field. Not gonna lie, a part of me misses fidget spinners. A fairly good event for me, with Shining Swarm winning, and Team Primary taking bronze and moving up to 1st. Team Momo tho :( I wonder if this is the one I watched part of back in the day, or is history just repeating itself.

Chess kids wound up 3-4; we'll take it and it ended on a win so that's nice.

Disgaea 6: I think we're gonna call it on this one. I had some success thinking of it as a team management game with auto-battles, but then there was a map where you couldn't really do the auto thing because of the Geo Symbols. (or maybe you can set up DI to avoid the hurt zones but heck if I'm touching that stuff) And just moving my dudes across the map is....kinda....a slog. I don't know what it is that makes moving a big team around in THIS particular SRPG tedious, as opposed to other Disgaeas, or FE, or SRW, but we have hit a point of "do I really want to do that again? Nah."

Next up is POKEMON SNAP it was probably that or Legends and Snap seems the safer bet for my tastes. ....But today wasn't a great brain day so we're probably not starting it yet.

Roahm plays Spyro 6-7: Some desert levels. Still a pleasantly chill game with a pleasantly chill player!

Disgaea 6: I think I'm starting to get in the groove. I don't super like the focus on autobattle and idling, but that DOES mean a greater emphasis on teambuilding, which I enjoy. Still on the fence, but looking at it through the lens of "managing a team" rather than "fighting battles" will keep it in the rotation for now. I would've been all in on Melodia if they'd played her straight like Flonne 2.0 (but I guess that'd be kinda boring)

Wildermyth: Had an interesting fight going but I think I glitched a door out, softlocking me out of engaging the rest of the enemies :\

Chess kids went 1-3 yesterday, which is not great but sets us up for an easy one or two. 4-3 might be out of reach, but I think we can still get 3-4, and .500 is more or less our goal so we'd take it.

it is a lot of fun! As has likely been established by now on b8, I am a fan of silly chaos, and getting stuff from OTHER people is a notch farther on that scale than even a regular randomizer! Like I started my FF1 run a couple hours late and already had almost all the key items I needed. (and late game equips) I'd like to expand my repertoire to LttP and Mario 64 and maybe Metroid and Rogue Legacy, but I gotta actually get decent at vanilla for them first because there's only so much you can cheese those lol.

Finished up Mort. Was hoping for a bit more Death, but the rest of the cast was solid too. Plot kinda lost me a little bit, and I could've done without sexualizing the young girls. Good but not a fave. Won't make it to the library for a bit, so we don't yet know what's next!

Did another of those multiworld randomizers from the other thread. This time I got cocky and randomized the game to play, despite only really having a working knowledge of Slay the Spire, and that not very strong. Got FF1, and again got a bit cocky by randomizing the map lol. Had a heck of a time navigating (especially since for a while I had the FLOATER but couldn't figure out how to use it) and started in a pretty tough area (the Ice Cave was my first dungeon!) but once I got rolling it wasn't too bad. I gave myself pretty easy settings other than the map, so once I survived the Ice Cave, there weren't many fights that could faze me. I had a lot of fun (although I had to rush towards the end) and the randomizer for that one has a lot of fun options so I think I'll add it into my single player rotation alongside SMRPG. But first I'm playing their "Improved Vanilla" so I can actually learn how it's supposed to work originally :P

My chess team's big tournament is this weekend, which means looooots of time sitting around theoretically doing my stuff! Power, internet, and the kids could all fail me though, so we'll see what I actually accomplish.

Apollo Justice: Glad I'm still on the tutorial case, because at least it's easy enough to muddle through with limited memory of what was happening! I didn't QUITE finish 4-1, but I think we're pretty dang close. I had vague spoilery awareness dudebro might not be on the up and up (plus, I mean, his design) but still, that was a bold heel turn! Nice. I feel like this is gonna be a good game, as much as I might wind up missing the old cast.

Wifebolo bought a copy of Avatar: The Search. Was quite enjoyable! My only gripes were the absence of Toph, and AangxKatara being hamfistedly lovey-dovey. Balancing that was a lot of really good Azula and Zuko stuff, and plenty of cool art. Just as solid as the show, I'd say.

Rain Chapter 34: Been a whiiiiiile on this one, but luckily the point I had reached corresponded with an IRL hiatus, so the author posted lots of refreshers for us! It's pretty dang rough, but that is not new. Does make part of me glad that I am navigating gender stuff now when I have adult rights, instead of being at the mercy of parents and schools and stuff. My folks are cool now, but I'm not sure they would've been back then.

Finished up Lords and Ladies, on to Mort! I particularly liked that one- was an interesting take on elves, and lots of good Granny and Nanny moments. Yandere ballpark stuff is kinda hit or miss for me, but Magrat snapping and wiping out elves was very satisfying.

Saw Encanto! Was not nearly as much capybara as I had hoped/expected, but it was everything else I wanted it to be. Dang good time! Made me cry a bit too.

Dug Slay the Spire back out for that multiworld randomizer thing from the other topic. For as much as I play roguelike deckbuilders, I never really gave that one its full due....and it's fun! Bit tough, but fun. The randomizer thingy was particularly fun and I want to do it again. I really like randomizers and such, and this was an extra level of enjoyable chaos. Not too hard either; even I want to set mine a bit tougher next time! I wanna get more into that kinda thing, hence the SMRPG runs I've been doing, but a lot of the prime games for rando runs are games I never beat in their original form, so it seems kinda silly to jump straight to randomization. But there's SMRPG to focus on, and maybe some Pokemon and multiworld here and there?

Oh yeah, I played a bit more SMRPG the other day and never wrote it up. Pace and route are fairly unremarkable, and I was a bit rusty. As seems to be my tendency, I have a crazy OP party as long as the enemies agree to only attack physically.

As I understand it, it kinda invented sports sim board games! It follows a guy who gets super invested in his baseball sim and kinda goes off his rocker. I thought it was pretty cool, but again, it lost me right at the end.

I liked Universal Baseball Association up until the ending! But I'd be down for more I think. I have figured out that I often like sports more in theory than in actuality, so I actually enjoy sports games and fiction and analysis even for sports where I don't want to sit down and watch a game. Heck, even with wrestling I'm more into TEW than anything these days.

happy new year woooo

Les Mis: Man I immediately remembered how much Marius' stalker arc was getting on my nerves. At least some good might come of it with this robbery situation? But even then of course it's extremely likely to get Javert back on Valjean's trail.

Lucha Underground 1-33: Super Fly and Sexy Star. Yay? White pants were a poor choice for The Other Superfly, but at least he's not whiffing his offense. He wins...pretty easily actually. (***) Drago twirls some nunchaku, and Penta wants Vampiro instead of the medallion. Aerostar, Cage, Marty, and Mack left to fight in the medallion match. Marty and Mack really growing on me these last few shows. Crazy exploder on the apron, dang. Aerostar gets the win; dang he's the only one I didn't think had a shot! (***1/2) Catrina and her putties take out the trios champs, or something. One wonders why Muertes is bothering with them ahead of his #1 Contender match with Drago, but luckily for him Hernandez takes Drago out mid-entrance. Big dramatic grimdark confrontation slightly spoiled slightly by the fans all chanting "mamacita" at Catrina, although to be fair she, uh, looks nice tonight. Muertes over. (***)

It's one of those where every time a character is on screen I'm like "yes! my favorite!" and those are magical

Deltarune has just about gotten there as well, actually

Go penguin army!

Finished season 1 of She-Ra, and it's dang fantastic. I love every character.

Deltarune: Hey speaking of loving every character, they're even managing to sell me on Berdley a bit! Queen and Noelle are great. I unlocked Spamton, got rolled, and may or may not try again. Kinda annoyed that I lost the house game with Rouxls, as I didn't fully understand the rules. (I cut off his options as fast as possible lol) I imagine I've gotta be pretty close to the end of the chapter!

I have a problem.

I keep creating D&D characters but I dont actually play D&D.

I've made like 20 potential playable characters at this point. Not counting the few I've actually created for a game and used.

I used to do that a dang bunch! Solo RPGs could potentially be your friend, if like me you want to play but can't get into a group.

the HP stat went -8.

so does that make him die instantly, or become immortal?

Wildermyth: Got to play a whole bunch! Finally! I'm in...Chapter 3 now? Some of my older guys are starting to retire and have their kids take over, and I even had my first death! Not one of the ones I was attached to, but still. Lost a few fights too (the game is fairly forgiving about death- the first time a character takes lethal, they can choose to go out with a bang or withdraw with a penalty, but if it happens again in the same chapter, they're donezo.) I think I need to get better about actually using my LP- I'm kinda running into the stereotypical RPG problem where "I might need them later" but I think the monsters are getting pretty strong so it might now be "later." I freakin' hate the Wardrobes that churn out mooks every turn and take several hits! But it's a good time, and it's been so long since I had both the time and the energy to play a video game at all, much less for a few hours! Break is coming up, so I am hoping for more of that.

Witches Abroad: Nanny Ogg and Magrat are suddenly growing on me, after feeling like props until this book. The whole bit with stories (and their use for evil) is pretty cool, too.
