i built my pc in late 2015 and it cost me around $950 (canadian) and it was extremely midrange back then. and that was when i lived in a small town with no local computer stores so i ordered everything online, and i only had a part-time job so i was buying my parts slowly over time (which allowed me to wait for deals)

i think a lot of people just have no concept of how much a billion dollars is. they think millionaires and billionaires are in the same category

take a good hard look at what your expenses would be even if money were no object to you and i'd bet you wouldn't even be coming close to needing a billion to maintain it. your quality of life has heavy diminishing returns the more money you make and most numbers taper that off in the very low six figure range

nobody makes a billion dollars without taking it from someone else. bill gates made his fortune by essentially killing free software. jeff bezos made his by paying poverty wages and targeting communities that had few other job prospects for amazon fulfillment centers. countless other examples.

the math just doesnt work out. theres no way you can justify this unless you just think poor people should stay poor (or think they can just bootstrap their way into wealth which isnt possible for the vast majority)
