I hate to open with this, but I teach a managerial finance class (granted, we rarely go over the stock market and never touch day trading, so there are regulars here far more knowledgeable than me about those specific topics), and I don't think you'd find a single reputable thinker/resource in the financial world who'd agree with you. Diversification is a major goal of proper investing - all things generally being equal, it's better to distribute the same money across ten stocks versus two.

Well thats because with only two youd lost a lot more per stock than ten.

True. The stock market overall trends upward but it can take awhile.

I dont think they can though. If you pick safe enough stocks, even in the event one plummets itll only be 2-3%.

Ten safe stocks is almost guaranteed to result in a slight gain. This factors in an almost 100% chance that at least one of the stocks goes down, and the rest either stay neutral or go up slightly.

Two safe stocks is almost guaranteed to result in a big gain or slight loss.

I dont want any losses.

Holding long does seem to be a good strategy. Just tough to do that when you can make more day trading sometimes.

I was doing that for a bit but was getting aggravated when the stocks I was picking were going up like 5% in one week.

What does selling calls aggressively entail? How can you be aggressive when you must wait for them to expire?

Selling calls only nets you approximately 1% of what you put in of premium.

Options are incredibly slow. So slow that you are forced to wait until Fridays to be ridden from them.

The past few months have shown me they options plays arent worthwhile.

I dont even know whats good at this point.

I think another recession is here. Everyone should sell everything and sit out for a few weeks/months.

So theres a Fed Meeting later this week, something about interest rates when Powell speaks. If its good news, market goes up. If its bad news, market goes down. Simple enough. But leading up to it, Im not sure what the market will do (meaning the next two or so days).

It was important how much Harrich lifted at the time because I gave context to the damage done.

I created this series because I recognized the market took a massive hit. I followed the market prior to Covid but didnt invest in anything besides my 401(k). Seeing an opportunity, I moved a bunch of my money into a brokerage account, posted for advice, and here we all are a year later.

These crypto swings are great if youve been selling at the highs and buying at the lows. I dont think anyone here has been swing trading them? Or maybe just averaging down?

As was the case here. I was used to the mantra of, if a stock goes down for no reason, buy. Difference here was the amount that it had gone down.
