This. We also work during the summer. Summer school classes and prepping for the upcoming school year. Meetings to plan for that school year. It's not like we sit on our asses the whole time during the summer.

This. And teachers that have been there longer try to bully other teachers into doing "training" over the summer. And you work so many hours of unpaid over time during the school year that it's really not worth it.

Teachers have a median income of $60,000? That's ... really not as bad as I was expecting considering everyone always talks about how bad the pay is.

First year of teaching I made about $35,000. After about 5 years, I made a little over 50. I'm from Texas.

To those who still want to do it, here is some advice:

Go teach somewhere nobody wants to be. Doesn't have to be some place dangerous either, it could be somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, but make sure it is not in the same region as any big city. In a big city, you are disposable. They have the mentality that pretty much says, "Do it our way, if you don't like it, then you don't have to work here. We'll just replace you."

In a smaller town, in the middle of nowhere, they are more grateful for people, usually (as long as you aren't part of the same region as a big city, then they try to have that big city mentality). If you work in the middle of nowhere, they usually try to keep you there. I saw one place one time that was even offering sign on bonuses and lodging... which is almost unheard of. Make sure you aren't the only person of your race there though. You want to blend in as much as possible.

Definately look at how much turnover a school has before signing a contract. If they hire like 5 new teachers every year, that's a shit school.

Also student teaching doesn't prepare you at all lol.

Break up your blocks so it's not just lecture and work time. There should be like 4 or 5 stations.

Also, don't disagree with anyone about anything, ever. Or you're screwed.

Not true. I was the hardest and fastest working person when I worked there for seven years (every other employee told me this), and management would still come by and yell at me/us wanting to know why the job wasn't done yet. They asked way too much of people. We had several people start there who came from construction or factories who said working at Walmart was worse.

But since it is a McJob, it's not worth staying for. But at the same time, staying there too long makes you feel worthless.

Construction workers work shitty hours though, and they are outside. I've heard that they work from sun up to sun down and it is hard as fuck on your body, and no indoor plumbing, so your ass is taking a dump in a porta potty.

And I know, I've met people like that before at those jobs. If it's the boss, no big deal, don't care. If it's another employee though, then you just have to let them know what's up. Had guys yell at me before at those jobs and I usually just tell them "fuck you" or I pull them aside and say something along the terms of, "Who the hell do you think you are? If I don't talk to you that way, then don't do it to me."

Prison rules at those jobs.... but at least you have a job.

Most of us don't just randomly get let go. In the vast majority of areas they can't even find subs so they're not gonna throw away a teacher on a whim. Shortages are huge these past couple years.

Cliques and shitty admins are rampant though, yes.

Oh I didn't randomly let go, it was after going to several shitty places. Those who like it are usually the ones who enjoy sucking up to whoever is in charge.

I've never met a teacher that didn't say politics weren't a huge part of the job tbh. Ass kissing goes a long way in teaching from what I've heard.

I got fired from my last job for "performance in the classroom" even though I had a stack of papers that was about 10 inches thick of work turned in from kids (it was at a discipline campus for bad kids) and even though the teacher who was bitching about me just let the kids play on the computers all day long.

Hard work will get you nowhere, it's all about how well you can kiss ass.

Nah, those jobs are more based on how hard you work. And at least if they fire you there, you can easily find a job just like it, won't be put on a growth plan and written up over and over again throughout the course of the year, and won't have to deal with people trying to act like they are helping you when they are just looking for excuses to get rid of you.

Go be a teacher though, you sound like you would enjoy it.

I lost my last teaching job because a teacher, who had been there forever, asked how I felt about teaching Jr. High (I was mainly a high school teacher). I told her, given the choice, I'd rather do middle school. So I got a text from her over the summer saying I would be doing Jr. High. I said, "Ok, but I don't know why you asked if you were just going to do whatever you wanted."

Because of that, she said I "attacked" her. After that, I was written up, by her friend, the principal, over and over again until the schools closed down.

And that's not the first time something like this has happened. So fuck teaching, would rather go work at Wal Mart, they are more professional.

It's stupid because they make you sign a contract, but then you can be terminated at any time. You can be terminated for stupid shit too, like a co-worker, student, or parent complaining about you. Also, in some districts, some teachers have continuing contracts, others have probationary ones, meaning some can be fired at any time, and some really can't be.

If you can't win a popularity contest, don't do it.

To be honest, I kind of just half ass want the teaching one. Hoping for the grocery store one. It pays 14 an hour, but I think I would rather do that than go and be a teacher for another year. I've done that for 5 years and it fucking sucks because there's always someone trying to fuck with your job. There's always some dumb ass that has been there longer that wants to try and give you a hard time, and if you stick up to them, you lose your job. That has happened 3 times now.

When I was younger, in my 20's, I looked forward to the day when I had a professional job and made good money. Now that I'm older though, as long as I have enough to pay my bills, I will take the one that is less stressful. Fuck teaching, teaching sucks, it's not about helping the kids, it's about winning a popularity contest with the staff. Fuck that. I think I might call the school back and cancel.

People having a discussion about extreme metal are pretty likely to know about the stuff whose claim to fame is being well known

I don't think you know very much about music.

S.D.S. was primarily influenced by Antisect and 80s crust punk.

I don't know much about new music, you're right. But in the 80's, you had the "Big 4" the heaviest groups at the time: Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica. The first Heavy Metal group though was Sabbath in the late 60's. Before them, nobody ever heard the guitar played like that before.

Btw, not bashing music where you can't understand lyrics. It's a great way to express frustration, in the song you posted, it's hilarious because it has that picture of the skull spider, so that's what I would imagine him talking about. The lyircs are probably something like: "Look at the picture! I drew this spider! Fuck the world!" Lol and there's nothing wrong with that. But the lyrics are part of it though, for me at least. Without good, understandable lyrics, it's just background noise.
