For the first time in awhile, I finished an anime!

My Love Story was pretty good. I liked it when it was a heartwarming show, and the three main characters were all great. I never got tired watching Takeo/Yamato being bashful around each other, they were a cute couple. I really wasn't a fan of a few of the dramatic arcs, though. The ones with Oda and the pastry guy both sucked because they were such terrible people that it just wasn't fun to watch. Thankfully those were only four episodes out of twenty-four so I can't complain too much. The other side characters and arcs were all good.

Not my favorite romance anime but for the most part it was a lighthearted, fun watch.

I haven't watched it but it looks neat. I'll probably check it out once I finish a few other things!

Hey everyone remember me, I still watch anime sometimes.

I started My Little Monster hoping for a good romance anime. It had potential early on but after seven episodes I feel like the characters are just wasting my time. Like each other at the same time you dumb kids, whenever one of them finally admits their feelings the other goes 'actually, nah', ugh

Maybe I'll finally try My Love Story next, see if that's any better.

I can rank visual novels too. I think these are all the ones I've read (I'm not counting Phoenix Wright but am counting Long Live the Queen and Magical Diary which are more choice-heavy and stat-based than the others). I also got one episode into World End Economica and two small routes into Clannad. Both were good but then I got distracted and never went back to them so they aren't ranked. Anyway, these are split by tiers

Highway Blossoms
The House in Fata Morgana
Steins;Gate

Magical Diary
If My Heart Had Wings (only did one route)
Doki Doki Literature Club

Season of 12 Colors
Lucy -The Eternity She Wished For-

</reality>
planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~
Amplitude
Sound of Drop -fall into poison-

Long Live the Queen

Raka_Putra did some amount of work on Amplitude, which is why I tried it, so I feel bad for ranking it so low but I enjoyed most of the VNs I've read except for Long Live the Queen. Man, I need to read more VNs. I own a bunch more on Steam.

I haven't played Gloomhaven in two years (and I also haven't played D&D in over a decade) but there were definite story elements and decisions to be made that had slight impacts on how things proceeded. Combat is definitely the focus though, which was fine since the combat was amazing. Once you get the hang of the gameplay and a feel for how your character operates you can pull off some real neat moves.

I enjoyed GLT from the start but it definitely did pick up as it went on. Chito > Yuuri but I didn't mind Yuuri either, she was a necessary part of the dynamic.

for the record I still find it odd that the list is technically 52 games.

I think the original idea is that it's one game for every week of the year. Only having 50 challenges is just catchier, I guess.

Happy New Year! Good luck in 2019. #bump#

Credit goes to tazzyboyishere for first starting this in 2016. Basically, there are 50 challenges outlined below that will require you to beat 52 games total. This isn't a competition and there's no prize for winning aside from a sense of accomplishment. This is just a fun thing to participate in while we all work through our video game libraries. It also gives us a place to discuss what we're playing. Feel free to join in!

Rules:
- A single playthrough of a game can only be used for one challenge
- Use your own judgment to decide if game fits in a certain category
- Games started in 2018 or earlier are fine as long as they're finished in 2019
- Please add your own games to the spreadsheet linked to below, which anyone can edit
- When using the spreadsheet, please don't mess with checklists/tallies that aren't yours
- There's a tab listing favorite games in the spreadsheet if you need help with Challenge 43
- If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

The only thing that sucked about searching my name on Discord was one person said something blatantly false to turn people against me and I wanted to defend myself... but it was over a year ago so who even cares anymore. I wouldn't care if I hadn't just learned about it.

It did kind of suck to learn that a lot of people I never even interact with seem to hate me. Like, Steiner really seems to hate me and I'm pretty sure we've never even spoken on the board.

I actually thought the SoL parts of School-Live were all really good! Yuki was a super fun character and everyone else bounce off of her well. Still, even then the SoL parts were mostly standard for the genre. I just thought they were enhanced by the other half of the show, and what it meant psychologically for the girls to be having fun like that despite their situation.

Yay, AICO! The fact that you've even seen this is a nice surprise (not enough people have, I'm still sad that this is mostly known for the atrocious dub even though the Netflix subs are fine), and I enjoyed the write-up too. Aiko is one of my favorite anime characters because I felt she approached the situation realistically and with a good amount of strength. The rest of the cast isn't anywhere near as good, but I didn't think any of them were bad either. Like you, I also enjoyed the structure of the plot being mostly a mission with a singular, defined goal. I quite liked the action as well. They may have been fighting blob monsters but the combat still quite often dealt with matters of positioning, which I feel is often ignored in action in anime.

Anyway, consistent is still a good word to describe it even if the individual parts of it resonated more with me than they did for you. At least you liked it more than Katana Maidens!

I love Engaged to the Unidentified, so I'm sad to see that you didn't like it! I thought all three of the main girls were great, but this was also one of the few SoL comedies where all of the side characters filled their roles well too. Ah well, at least it finished ahead of other stuff.

And yes, that scene is amazing.
