I always consider RF1 to be nothing more than an experiment, to try something different and see what they can come up with. As such it was very flawed. But there is a reason they dropped the "A Fantasy Harvest Moon" subtitle. Because it has completely evolved into its own series. Every single game has introduced so many improvements and QoL that it always feels like a new game, just with similar concepts. The jump from 1 to 2 alone was enormous. The jump from 4 to 5 was not as big as the other jumps, but there are some improvements and QoL. It's a far different experience than playing the original. The combat and farming has come a long way since 2007.

I think I tried the first rune factory a long time ago actually, but I think I lost interest because I wanted to play another harvest moon but it had jrpg elements. My perspective has probably changed since then, but how is the balance here?

Are all the chapters necessary or is it more along the lines that chapter 1 is the main story and the rest are spinoffs? I can find chapters 1,2 and 4 online but where is the third

Just finished Cold Steel 1 this morning. I'm thinking of starting Cold Steel 2 of course but I know that's gonna be another like 200 hours. I wonder if I should weave in some other games or a VN before committing to Cold Steel 2.
