A lot of the dialogue being counted in those games is from optional quests. There is only like 1 really major optional quest in Xenogears with dialogue. Then again, I guess they're counting NPC dialogue, and boy can the NPCs in gears fucking talk. Just like Grandia, a lot of them will change what they say after major plot triggers too.

I played Xenosaga for 10 hours back in the day and I remember more talking than Xenogears and that's saying something. I think I'll give it another crack soon, I liked what I played, just stopped because I got fucked by an encounter after having not saved for an hour.

At the very least I remember it being harder than Gears, but I was a kid when I played it.

I felt your sentiment about the game dragging in disc 1, and I'm torn.

I too kind of wanted to wrap it up, but the story got so good during Shevat and I feel like having disc 2 scenarios fleshed out would have been a lot of worthy payoff for enduring the boring stuff. I mean at that point I was invested enough to endure the crappy gameplay.

You can also go further into Nortune and compete in mech battles again (you unlocked a higher difficulty and a new mech just for getting to the bottom of Deus)

I barely got to use anyone besides the Citan, Elly, Fei combo up to that point because it seemed like they got the most relevant dialogue for almost every dungeon where you can choose your party. All of disc 2 would have been great for fleshing out the rest of the cast, especially the ones that join real late.

Yeah, the intro cinematic doesn't get fully explained until the end of the game (disc 2 I mean). Almost the first hint you see of it was the Tower of Babel you climbed earlier, which I think is obvious enough that I'm not going to spoiler that.

But me trying to connect plot points they were introducing to it throughout the game made me confused, they really leave you in the dark about what's going on there until a little into disc 2

It was my least favorite place in the game, and probably my least favorite "HQ" in a JRPG. Especially back when it was hooked up to Bart's hideout and easy to get lost. I hated Bart, his story arc, and his stupid ship.

It doesn't take long to read one. If I picked up an old game that came with it, I'd probably skim through for the art or extra lore.

Everytime manuals come up I can't help but mention that FFXII's manual had more development for Penelo than the entire game itself telling us that she was trained to fight by her Knight brothers who aren't mentioned in dozens of hours of gameplay.

Suikoden 2 supposed to have an Easter egg if you refused to jump into the cliff 108x, but I never tried it myself.

The intro which is normally in monochrome becomes fully colored. Totally not worth it. Especially if you're chasing after Elza.

Golden Sun, Suikoden II, and Breath of Fire 2 are three games I can think of that you can force an early game over/bad end by making such a choice when it is seemingly innocuous.

In Golden Sun, you can deny being sent on the journey to begin with which will trigger it, in Suikoden II you can decide that what you've been through has been too much on you and trigger an alternate ending 70% of the way through the game, and in Breath of Fire II it's really irritating because they ask you to go on after a very aggravating boss fight and make it seem like a point of no return and ask you if you want to take a breather first and choosing it triggers the bad end and you have to fight the boss over.

I do not recall them saying Frieza trained at all in Z. The Frieza arc is a long one though, and it has been quite a while since my last rewatch. At the least I don't think it's explicitly stated. The viewer had no reason to believe up until that point in Super where they mention it that he reached his absurd level of power without training, but it's one of those things that is assumed.

Was UI ever confirmed to give a power buff? From my understanding, UI essentially puts Goku into autopilot where his body moves and fights on its own without him needing to think.

It at least expends divine energy through attacks. Divine Energy is capable of hurting Beerus when Goku is in base whereas full power SSJ3 couldn't even scratch him.

I think so. The destroyer god of their universe beat Beerus in an arm-wrestling match and Jiren was said to outclass him. In fact Top may have been groomed to be the next destroyer god because he too was a match for their universes current. And we see how much Jiren > Top.
