There's a reason why JonTron quotes and gifs and whatever else keep turning up in otherwise unrelated discussions: like SpongeBob and The Simpsons, there's so much material to work with that you could probably find a relevant quote for any situation. Of Matt Groening's work, Futurama is consistently his best, but also the least relevant' if that makes sense.

Some recurring Futurama quotes include:
"Shut up and take my money!"
"Your [x] is bad and you should feel bad."
"I have no strong feelings one way or the other."

And these are fine enough, but the problem for me is that they can be detatched from their source material with little consequence. I wonder how many people would really associate that first quote with Philip J. Fry if not for the memetic image that accompanies it. On the contrary, and for anyone familiar with his videos, Jon's dialogue and delivery are almost inseperable. Jon is just so uniquely Jon that you can probably paint a vivid mental image of the video when reading one of his quotes. Don't believe me?

Hah, that's a funny ballot. But really, give it up for Lucas Pope's uncanny ability to create small masterpieces; simple concepts with big ideas. Wandersong is awfully cute, but it does little to define itself beyond the presentation. And while Undertale has a lofty place in my heart, I wasn't nearly as engaged by the world and characters of Deltarune. Last thirty-or-so minutes make the experience worthwhile, but until that point, it's all a bit half-baked.

Don't have much to comment on today, but Braid and Antichamber (especially the latter) both feature very enigmatic game design and I can't ever get enough of that.

Hollow Knight

First match is absolutely no contest, because Hollow Knight reigns high as my all-time favorite indie. I will put in a word for Iconoclasts though--gorgeous spritework featuring lively character animations and dense environments.

I'm not the type to abstain a vote, especially since I have played a bit of Freedom Planet and could probably come to a fairly positive conclusion about it, but there's one caveat. I know next to _nothing_ about To the Moon, except that it apparently has a very emotional, human story about aging and loss or something along those lines. Really doesn't feel right to vote against it, were it something I'd really love but just haven't experienced yet.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country - Battle!!

Couldn't have predicted Revenger and Chocolate Missile getting this far. Don't have much else to say other than this is a strong final six and may the hottest banger win.

There are only 12 GG/MS Sonic games. You can unlock them all in the GC port of SADX with a lot of time and effort, (new game unlocks every 10 emblems, bonus Metal Sonic skin for Sonic at 130) or you can get Mega Collection (S1, Chaos, Blast, Labyrinth, Drift, Mean Bean Machine) and Gems (S2, Spinball, Triple Trouble, Drift 2, Tails Skypatrol, Tails' Adventure) with everything available right off.

Gems definitely has the better set, with S2, Triple Trouble, and Tails' Adventure as my personal highlights.

Shovel Knight
Cave Story

Stanley was the game that made me want to make games, but Shovel Knight showed me how it's done. The base game is as close to perfect as its genre comes, (though there are two other platformers in the bracket that more than stand toe-to-toe with it) and the expansions are a welcome change of pace. I still love Stanley too, and I'll never forget its influence on my creative process, but it is a bit hard to revisit as of late. Its self-aware storytelling, something novel at its release, has been beaten to a pulp by writers who think they're breaking new ground every time pencil hits the page. Still gonna jam to Ultra Deluxe when it finally drops.

Pyre is at a serious disadvantage, being a much newer game with little public attention. Supergiant's worlds are all just insanely gorgeous, exploding with detail and personality and--geez it can be a lot to take in sometimes. Cave Story, though. The world knew Cave Story in 2004, long before the 'template' for indie games had been set. Its influence can't be understated.

The Witness

I've not played Transistor, but Hat was a rock-solid experience, (with a few pacing hiccups) so I'm confident in voting for it. Both games in match 2 are all-time favorites!
