I don't find it a terrible idea for itty bitties, in certain contexts when only one parent is accompanying the child and is likely to be distracted.

(On the other hand, this refers mostly to moms taking their little kids shopping, which you pretty much have to be a horrible person to do.)

I did see a poor kid wearing one at Ruby Falls last weekend though. He didn't teally seem like the type to run around like a lunatic so he might have been ok without if the people looking after him had any shred of responsibility, but of course they didn't. The presumable mom (might have been grandma) looked about 50 but this was probably because of drugs, as she had very profound druggy eyes. She was smoking a cigarette and looking around at whatever was more interesting than the kid, which apparently was everything.

She didn't have the leash though. This teenage girl did. Presumably an older cousin (might have been mother). And the kid is just looking around at stuff, walking around a bit, not doing anything bad or even annoying. But the cousin is having none of it. Without so much as a verbal warning, she jerks the leash and this poor kid falls to his hands and knees on the concrete.

Teenagers can be stupid at times but someone the age of the presumable mom should have known better. She notices the commotion and looks over, but doesn't care. She goes back to smoking and looking at leaves.

I felt awful for that kid. :|

Man, that's really bad. I guess that's a good point against leashes on kids.

What's your opinion of having little children on leashes? (Leashes are attached to the body, not the neck.)

I have a mixed opinion on this. It looks a little weird and perhaps it's a lazy way to control your kids, but personal feelings aside it's also logical and makes sense.
