Weaku if I'm headed toward the post office any time in the next few weeks I'll PM you for your address. KOF looks really fun but I never quite had the patience to sit down and learn the combos which seem to be a prerequisite for playing the game well. might as well give it to someone who wants to play it.

SF4's about as good of a competitive fighter as we've seen. mechanics work, balance is pretty amazing, game has a lot of hype. not as much as Marvel, but there are some pretty incredible moments.

I think it's solid. Balance especially is something it has over the rest of the series for sure. If I were making a couple changes to SF4 I'd remove ultras, increase walk speed, and buff throws. I do think it's the best competitive FG being played right now in the community. Skullgirls and KOF get more love as "true honest fighting games no comeback mechanics" but SF4 has a better mixture of accessibility, being entertaining to watch, etc.

nah. SF4 has some issues. that won't be a popular thing to say here I'm sure.

if you mean flawless as in "there's mostly nothing wrong with it, and it rewards solid play" we're probably talking like CvS2 or something. closest thing.

I don't play MK9 so maybe I'm wrong but the projectile game just looks stupid.

maybe I'm remembering this wrong but I think MK9 has gone through patches that have significantly altered the core gameplay. enough that it really frustrated some of the top players. I'm no MK9 player either though. I think thundersheep plays it. maybe he can shed light on the MK9 situation and whether the balance/gameplay changes are projectile related or not.

it's a follow up on the SFxT conversation. the last post is in the context of "Evo just ran SFxT and no one wanted to watch it or play it."

ST finals proves that people still are really excited about good games even if they're old fogey games. I hope they take that away from this year.

really I'm pretty disappointed that 3s wasn't in this year. at least as a side tourney. OE was a perfect excuse. I understand a lot of the best American players aren't really fond of OE but none of them liked PS2 either and Evo ran that for almost a decade. it seems like Evo runs SF4 + Marvel + a few games that just came out these days. I think they should run ST and 3s every year. Maybe consider an occasional or side MvC2, CvS2, and VSav appearance as well.

I was reading Sirlin's design notes for character rebalancing in HDR. I went straight for the heart of the matter that was on my mind after last night - Vega.

He talked about how Vega's wall dive shenanigans are abusive and how Vega doesn't need them to win. So he changed it so that wall dive hits don't knock down. Cool stuff.

I think if you have it installed you should be good. now that I've got it installed as well it should be better.

we also both have to turn off aero because that'll mess up one of our frame rates and desync our session. learned that from them too. so with the patch combined with turning off Aero on both ends I expect great things.

the GGPO guys talked about a latency patch they discovered recently (was made the WOW community but works great on GGPO as well) that has something to do with changing your computer accepts online game packets or something. I dunno. but supposedly it works awesome. I installed it on my end already, seems safe and legit. maybe if we both do so we can actually play 3s online.
