Topic | The review situation for the MGS Collection has me pretty conflicted |
Natalie 10/24/23 8:34:35 PM #41 | JackMan posted... MGS4 would be exciting, but looking at the amount of effort put into these ports and knowing how notoriously difficult MGS4 is to port, I'm not going to get my hopes up.For what it's worth, the narrative about MGS4 being un-portable seems to largely be a misconception. The game's associate producer has said that it was never a contractual exclusive and that they developed a proof of concept 360 version that ran perfectly; it was the limitations of DVD storage that caused them to drop it. It's widely speculated that Volume 2 of these new collections will include a port of 4. Topic | The review situation for the MGS Collection has me pretty conflicted |
Natalie 10/24/23 5:37:14 AM #27 | I think Twin Snakes was always an unrealistic expectation between the rights issues and needing the Nintendo stuff scrubbed out of it. Everybody hated Twin Snakes anyway, I don't know who these people are who are coming out of the woodwork all outraged about it. And MGS1 was never going to run at 60 FPS as long as it has framerate dependencies. I admit I haven't picked it up yet so I don't have firsthand impressions, but the negativity towards this compilation baffles me. It's exactly the type of collection I want more of: great games presented accurately and performing well, full of options and bonus features for enthusiasts and adding a bunch of content that wasn't present in any previous release. |

Topic | Physical/Digital Games |
Natalie 09/19/23 2:06:17 PM #21 | I go physical for every major release I'm interested in, but the indie/AA market has pushed me more towards digital for smaller games. There's a lot of stuff I'd buy physically if it were ~$5 more than the digital copy, but paying two or three times the digital price is nuts. |

Topic | What's the most recent game to have aged/feel "old"? |
Natalie 09/12/23 1:33:24 PM #21 | Maybe a weird answer, but I started The Stanley Parable recently and while it's not bad, I think there've been so many "ooh this isn't what it seems" and fourth-wall-breaking narrative games since that it feels a little rote. Enjoyable, but definitely of an era. Probably a lot of first-wave indie games would feel that way for their respective genres. |

Natalie 08/19/23 4:12:03 AM #33 | The list posted earlier doesn't seem complete to me. This is the one I've seen floating around the most, but I don't think the bolded games are wholly accurate - I haven't checked on my Xbone, but I think titles like Death Tank and Vigilante 8 Arcade are 360 exclusives that'll be caught in this sweep. https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1hxTr0R6EO--X34hqIt3i7fJJge6AU6ReG3z2JVSLVzY/mobilebasic I'm taking the opportunity to go through the marketplace altogether and pick up other stuff in case we see more delistings follow. Great time for recs if anyone knows any stuff that's XBLA exclusive or where the XBLA version is the best available. |

Topic | Games whose reputations have improved over the years |
Natalie 08/12/23 3:44:24 AM #109 | Sonic Adventure 2 seems to have gone through a resurgence in recent years. Its reputation was never terrible, but there was always a camp that saw it as the beginning of the franchise being a joke and now it seems to shine a lot more in comparison to what came next. Also, just in general, peripheral-based rhythm games like Guitar Hero. Not that they were viewed as bad games at the time, but outside of their living room party game success I remember them quickly becoming sort of an embarrassing thing to have around. Nowadays people are more likely to think it's neat than to say "yeah but can you do that on an actual guitar" |
