I'm making a concerted effort to not be harsh in this topic (and truth be told, I don't feel harsh towards this album), so it might be opaque exactly how I feel about albums I'm not super into, and how such compare to its contemporaries in its tier. I think the most telling thing I can say is that, unlike most of the "iffy" songs that placed above it, this isn't something I'd *want* to listen to again, even in the right context. I don't not want to either. It's perfectly in the liminal zone of not doing enough things I dislike to at least make it interesting, and not doing enough things I like to make me like it. Unlike Weirdest Hits, which I just said was something that I had trouble making myself go through again, I do have actual reticience beyond "I have other things I want to listen to more" holding me back, but not to the extent I would go out of my way to avoid hearing it in another context. Sunspot - Weirdest Hits @BlueCrystalTear I've heard weirder hits tbqh. This has nothing on Global Understanding (and going from that to this is quite a jump). Those are some basic fucking trap hi-hat/kick patterns in Reverse Engineering ...yeah I don't think I have much aside from ultimately meaningless faint praise or rebukes YO WHAT THIS HAS A SONG CALLED ARCHEOPTERYX. The album I referenced earlier is by "Cryptovolans", which is another ancient (and much cooler, sorry) bird-like dinosaur. If you were paying attention to the topic, you could probably guess about what my thoughts on this would be. It's fairly firmly in the "good but ultimately forgettable bar music" tier that Beale Street is hanging out. It's definitely good, and I certainly don't *mind* listening to this... yes, you guessed it, it's *pleasant*. It's got no edge, it doesn't feel--and I can't believe I'm about to use this phrase--challenging to listen to. To put it less stupidly, it doesn't surprise me or take me places I haven't been before or even make me feel a little uncomfortable in listening something I'm not accustomed to. It's exceptional background music, and does, against all odds, get me into the lively mood it's setting. So... bar music. --- Kneel... or you will be knelt |
