Inbachi (Dodonpachi Saidaioujou)

Dodonpachi Saidaioujou has been out for like 10+ years now, and no one yet has beaten the true true last boss Inbachi in an actual run of arcade mode without cheating afaik. It's only recently that people practicing with save states (instead of actually playing through the game without missing and the other conditions to fight Inbachi in the first place ) have proven it's actually even possible for a human player to even beat it.

open for suggestions for what to put to represent fighting game bosses, since I don't know which SNK boss is the SNK-iest or if something like Children of the Atom Magneto or Holy Order Sol would compete with one of those. As well as for a fourth.

Instinct (the game)

I like the Zero no Tsukaima novels, but the anime is a complete dumpster fire of an adaptation that cuts pretty much all the plot and characterization.

Same thing goes for Rosario + Vampire. The manga's an ok enough battle harem series, but the anime basically cut all the plot and action scenes.

and yeah, Boogiepop Phantom is an anime original sequel arc to the first novel in the series, Boogiepop and Others (I guess because the live action movie adaptation of the novel was successful) while the new Boogiepop and Others series is an adaptation of the first few novels. Most of Phantom is episodic stories about new characters.

I like Solomon's Key a lot and I think it's one of the best early NES games, but it's also one of the hardest NES games to finish due to a combination of being difficult and how if you try to continue past stage 40 you just get sent back to stage 40 so you have to finish the last stretch of the game on one credit (which is actually toned down from the arcade game where you can't continue at all past stage 27 or 28). The sequel, Fire n Ice is one of the best puzzle games on the platform, and a lot easier/more accessible. But it's also a lot later in the system's lifespan (definitely worth playing when you get to it though).

I bounced off of Mighty Bomb Jack at first due to the torture chamber mechanic, but once I found out how to avoid it and how you're supposed to use the powerups I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would because just jumping around is fun. However, it's the sort of game that has a lot of esoteric nonsense that's basically impossible to figure out without a guide, if you're trying to get the best ending or are playing for score (and a lot of people who try it probably just give up just from running into the torture chamber mechanic for the first time).

Babel/Mystery Tower has some rough spots (getting the actual ending is stupid) but I think it's worth playing overall. Particularly since it's a Namco game that gets buried behind the nth rerelease of Pac Man or Dig Dug and it doesn't get referenced into the ground in their other games like Tower of Druaga. It got a rerelease in a Japanese only PSX collection, and it got a theme in Pac Man 99 but that's about it afaik. It's not even on either of the Namco Museum Archive games that were made specifically to collect Namco's NES games (and they include games that they just published like Mendel's Palace and Dragon Slayer 4/Legacy of a Wizard).

good game overall, although it's probably a bit too twitchy at times for my spaghetti fingers to play on a keyboard at this point, and also maybe leans into the speadrunning/super playing a bit too much for a game copying Nintendo games that you'd expect from a fan trying to 'fix' something that wasn't really broken to begin with (like you can't get killed by normal enemies despite the game leaning away from the puzzle elements of WL2/3 and more into WL4, but it still keeps track of how many times you can get hit and you have a life bar for bosses).

Also the bosses are a bit too much, they really could have been toned down since they take so many hits, you have to wait until they're vulnerable to damage them, and occasionally it's hard to tell what can hurt you and what can't or there's some sort of distraction in the background. Would probably have been more pleasant if they had like, half the hp.
