I never said I wanted him to die. I was never saying it didn't make sense for him to run. What I said was since he ran he should be penalized in some fashion. He signed up to protect what are now dead people. Maybe he would have died, maybe he wouldn't have. But I can almost guarantee less people would be dead if he actually tried to stop them, you know, like "resource officers" are supposed to. To even find him guilty you have to assume hes lying about gunshot echoes hindering his ability to find the shooter. Then you would also have to assume he could have stopped the shooter and not have just been the 19th victim.

You say he could have incapacitated him with a shot in the vest but what if it didnt? What if he missed and he is standing there without a vest staring down a lunatic?

Cops should 100% be punished when their decisions hurt/injure someone. They should NOT be punished for being unable to stop a lunatic on a warpath though. No one person is equipped for that. Hes not John Wick.

Besides that lifeguards are trained not to attempt rescue if conditions are at a certain point. If you go into obviously dangerous waters and drown how is the lifeguard at fault? Not saying thats the case here but why are we blaming this guy instead of the person that killed 18 people?

While I absolutely agree that you should be with your pet in their final moments, I also understand how hard it is and I don't judge people for not being able to do it.

My buddies dad actually was walking on the highway at like 3 or 4am and was struck and killed. Nobody knows to this day why he was out on the highway walking. It was pretty tragic.

I would say that, not linking it up to this case in particular, depending on your chosen profession you have a duty to fight off your brain's wrong responses in certain situations and if you fail to you should be held liable.

Self preservation is natural instinct. Dude probably lost his job, retirement, and any chance at being an officer again. To me, that is being held liable. He doesnt need angry mobs and keyboard warriors calling him a coward and calling for his imprisonment.

I think even if there is a conviction this is being overturned on appeal. A cop is not a "caregiver" for children at school. Moreover, US law dictates that cops do not have to risk their lives for others.
