I remember SMFFFC always having roughly a hundred saves per round so 75 isn't that much of a reduction. Just have a two save threshold, or even one.

Yeah I've learned that about myself since I started watching anime. It was partly why I've watched so much random junk since starting, to try and suss out my tastes. Things that are fun and high-energy have an immediate appeal with me, but less happy stuff has a harder time resonating. I can still enjoy it if it's done well, like Shiki for example, and I really love seeing characters confront despair while refusing to be broken by it, like Yuki Yuna. I just don't like seeing people wallow in sadness, I guess.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 practically changes genres by having platforming jumping puzzles in its final dungeon. It remains one of my most frustrating gaming experiences, trying to line up jumps while dealing with the ridiculous encounter rate and even more ridiculous enemies there. Plus it was a gigantic maze.
