Some people just don't get it. Although if I was going to get a first gun for someone who has never shot one, I would recommend a Ruger 10/22. It's a fine gun, it shoots a common and cheap ammo '.22LR' it has next to zero recoil, its accurate, and simple to use. It's a rifle, but it was my, and many people's introduction to firearms. But anyway, here was a recent shotgun project I finished. (because shotguns shotguns shotguns shotguns) I turned this shotgun:  Into this.  Just for giggles. A $250 shotgun with $120 in parts. --- |

Someone is more likely to book it rather than shoot if you come at them with a shotgun than a 9mm. Intimidation faction isn't really anything. The intruder has already determined to enter your home. If armed they will most certainly engage you. If they weren't serious about it they wouldn't be intruding. Saying one gun intimidates over another is fudd lore to the highest degree. It's the same shit as saying 'racking the slide of a firearm will scare off any intruder.' when it has been proven time and again to very rarely ever working. StriderQ posted... If you want to learn about guns and being safe with them, watch some hickok45 YouTube videos. You would learn a hell of a lot more watching him than anything anyone writes on here. If you want to get some time with your gun you can find public land outside of a city to go shoot on. Just drive far enough out of town that there isn't any homes around and get some practice in. Just remember not to shoot rocks, and only dirt backstops/hills. Also don't shoot saguaro cactus. Also don't take all your ammo shooting, or use all your ammo. A gun without ammo is just an expensive hammer. --- |

| Miroku_of_Nite1 05/07/20 9:40:55 AM #45 | Honestly Jen you should go to a gun store with a range and get a feel for the guns. Even if its just going to a gun store to hold them. But something you need to consider is the ammo. I would suggest a firearm in a 9mm. This is a really common caliber and is a lot cheaper than say .40, .380, or .45. 9mm offers a nice capacity in most firearms, and the recoil is manageable. But for your suggestion a M&P 380 Shield is a fine firearm. I've shot one a few times, and have no real complaints for it. But if you do buy a gun make sure you heed the rules of firearm use, and do get practice in and familiarize yourself with it. If you have any comments or questions feel free to ask. --- |
