CIMON isnt much to look at. Its just a floating ball with a cartoonish face on its touch screen. Its built to be a personal assistant for astronauts working on the International Space Station (ISS). Its also supposed to be something more. CIMON stands for Crew Interactive MObile compinioN. Its not supposed to be just a tool. Its also supposed to be a friend. Yes, its a personality prototype. You can tell, cant you? But, as numerous books and movies have clearly warned us shortly after being switched on for the first time, CIMON has developed a mind of its own. And it appears CIMON wants to be the boss. This has CIMONs personality architects scratching their heads. CIMON was programmed to be the physical embodiment of the likes of nice robots such as Robby, R2D2, Wall-E, Johnny 5 and so on. Instead, CIMON appears to be adopting characteristics closer to Marvin the Paranoid Android of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy though hopefully not yet the psychotic HAL of 2001: A Space Oddysey infamy. Put simply, CIMON appears to have decided he doesnt like the whole personal assistant thing. Hes turned uncooperative. Open the pod bay doors, HAL? No. Not quite. Not yet. In this case, the free-floating IBM artificial intelligence was for the first time interacting with ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst. It starts off well enough. CIMON introduces himself and explains where he comes from. He describes to Gerst what he can do. He then helps Gerst complete a task and responds to a request to play the song Man Machine by Kraftwerk. This proved to be the trigger. CIMON appears to have liked the song so much, refusing to turn it off. ESA astronaut Aleander Gerst instructed CIMON: Cancel music. CIMON outright ignored the command. Gerst then tried making some other requests. CIMON preferred the music. A flustered and bemused Gerst then appealed to Ground Control for some help: how does one put an obdurate robot back in its place? CIMON overheard the appeal. Be nice, please, it warned Gerst. I am nice! Gerst retorts, startled. Hes accusing me of not being nice! It was a short but sharp exchange. CIMONs now back in his box, powered down. No further interactive sessions are planned for the immediate future. According to a letter to parents obtained by the paper, the incident happened on Oct. 26th but school officials did not learn about it until Nov. 8th. Parents were called the next day. Its unclear if the students were suspended from class. The report was promptly relayed to me and I immediately directed that an investigation take place, said volunteer assistant Sean Considine. (They) interviewed all nine football coaches. They also interviewed nearly 30 members of the varsity football team, many in the presence of one or more parent. They also accessed and examined footage from various security cameras at or near the stadium. The three games that the players missed included the Class 3A state championship game in which Byron lost 24-20. That was the teams only loss of the season. I literally downloaded some sketch-ass 3rd party program to prevent windows updates once I read about them stealth-updating people to windows 10 a few years ago it works though! Did you hear about the GWX debacle in 2016? Only reason I didn't get that is because my computer was a 2008 running on Vista. no lmao what is that GWX is "Get Windows 10", a program they snuck into Windows 7 and 8 by packaging it with unrelated updates. The program would constantly show popups and try to get you to click buttons that would update your computer to 10. Toward the end of the first episode of HBO's new four-part series done with political website Axios, Trump broke into a monologue professing his love for the Sharpie pen and disdain for the government-ordered pen that is traditionally used by US Presidents. Meanwhile, Axios reporter Jonathan Swan and its CEO, Jim VandeHei, patiently listened on the sidelines. "I was signing documents with a very expensive pen and it didn't write well," Trump said. "It was a horrible pen, and it was extremely expensive," he added, referring to the so-called government-ordered pen. "And then I started using just a Sharpie, and I said to myself, well wait a minute, this much writes much better and this cost almost nothing." At this point in the monologue, Trump pulled out a standard grey Sharpie pen from his draw. "So, I called up the folks at Sharpie and I said, 'do me a favor, can you make the pen in black? Can you make it look rich?'" he said. According to Trump, Sharpie's response was not only that they could they do that, but they also offered to put his signature on it. Trump proudly flashed the gold labeled pen to the camera.
