I think it is difficult for some people to acknowledge that two sides of a conflict can both be doing reprehensible things, even if we do accept that one side is more in the wrong than the other. Its tribalism, I guess. Maybe we are hardwired to think that you cant say something bad about your own tribe because others will think youre a traitor. I mean try being objective about any controversy and youll be hated by both sides.

hmm, Im not a lawyer, but I think it would be difficult to charge a specific person unless that person planned it or goaded the perp into that crime (e.g. take my pistol, go to X, shoot these people). Possibly the victims families could sue him instead.

The problem with Musk's view of free speech is, like Conservatives, they have no idea what free speech is about or its intention.

Thats not even relevant to conversation.

People get hung up on the semantics, and sometimes they matter. But not always. This is a simple censorship issue. If you think people are only allowed to say what you approve of them saying, then youre pro censorship. This is fine if its in your house, a job site or a private school, for example, but Musk doesnt think it applies to Twitter, which he now practically owns. He can allow or not allow whatever the fuck he wants, whether we cry about it or not. Remember when people laughed at critics and said if you dont like it (censorship) then go make your own social media platform? I remember and clearly Musk does too. He went and bought one.

Lots of non-Western countries have politicians that citizens idolize, even to a fanatical level. But talking shit openly about them? Thats not only allowed in the West, you could say its even encouraged. Yeah, every politician, no matter their party, will have their Stans. But US Americans, for example, can say the foulest of insults about the president, senators, judges, basically anyone, without risking jail or worse. Good luck doing that in some other countries.

It will make race relations worse.

Dont get me wrong, getting money is nice and will help struggling people. But that wont erase whatever resentment they were feeling in the first place. If they continue to publicly complain about social issues or whatever, I dont think the rest of society will be sympathetic at all (e.g. Stfu, you got paid). Of course the taxpayers whose ancestors never had any connection to that history will be smart enough to know they were just forced into going along with it all.

I think its also safe to say that any expectation for reparations wouldnt just end, no matter how big or how many payments are made. Its just not human nature. The next generation, for example, will be pissed if they dont get paid too. Thus no progress.

When people I personally knew started dying. Not from old age per se, but accidents and disease werent so much a thing when we were young.

Also, I started to really get annoyed at some newer music that I was pretty sure Id have been Ok with as a younger person.
