This criticism is actually more fundamental; it's one of the main reasons I don't really like him in the first place! It's fine to simplify your plans to the electorate to effectively sell them, but if at the end of the day your math doesn't check out you're not going to solve the problems you meant to.

The $21 trillion number is also super wrong. Unadjusted for inflation that's apparently more than the total military budget over the country's history.

(Also my understanding is that the $32 trillion MFA number is a very optimistic number for Bernie's MFA plan taking his unrealistic assumptions at face value; the real cost would likely be much higher. Of course, iirc his plan was also extremely generous as far as care provided goes, so if you scaled that back maybe you could get that kind of number?)
