Anyway, game was fun. Liked the open world aspect and the gameplay was great (especially when compared to FF13 *shudders*). Story was pretty weak, but the characters were cool and the game had a nice atmosphere. Solid 8/10.

Well, I said that because you were acting like it's a hard card to get and I cleared it up. I just said it to not come off as dick in case you got salty over it, which you did.

And you got the gold card on a minimum wage job? Sounds to me like you WERE trying to project a status, because there is zero chance you could justify the fee on that level of income. xD

Status? What? They're just charge cards that anyone with above 600 can get. Even young people. Just because there's a fee doesn't mean much when benefits pay for it. You have some fucked up perceptions dude.

It used to come with a free $200 Amazon gift card and the spend bonus was something like $600 in statement credits for a $1k spend. Plus the first 2 years were free and I paid the third year and got rid of it.

Ok bro, im sorry. you are so cool and right. Thanks for coming here and imbuing us with your years of credit card churning mastery. We are truly grateful for your presence. I wish I had enough foresight to sign up for a $195 annual fee card on a $7.25/hr income. You are truly an asset to this site. Thank you.

I thought the Amex Plat was a pretigious card? Like, maybe not Centurion rare, but definitely a card for a wealthy person?

Not saying you're not, but this kind of stuff makes me thing anyone can get it:

I've turned down platinum like 5 times already with that (iirc) $450 annual fee

They arent all that hard to get, but you have to be a frequent traveler to really justify it.

I wasn't trying to impress. I was saying that when you have experience dealing with a whole group of people that are dedicated to credit cards, you see that it's very easy to get. Even the data proves this.

LordBalor4 posted...

What? Why would you think I'm butthurt when I'm trying to clear up misconceptions? Projecting?

LordBalor4 posted...

What? Sounds like you're arguing losing points. I'm just correcting things. My entire OP was to help @MrK3V realize that these are not some hard to get fancy cards and that if he applied, he'd likely get it right away.

Even bluemonk is a testament since he was able to rack up like 15 cards that are actually hard to get in under a year with like a 640 credit score when he started and with like 700 now.

LordBalor4 posted...
Charge cards do have higher credit requirements

No, they don't. Did you read the link? Literally the link is basically saying that, contrary to popular beliefs, here's actual collected data.

LordBalor4 posted...
but they are still easy to get for anyone with a job who isnt financially illiterate. As I already said, these cards dont mean anything and I see no point arguing over something so pointless lol. I like the perks and they will make my trips more enjoyable.

So why are you arguing and acting so defensive? And yeah, I had a minimum wage job when I first got the card, so basically anybody working and with a year of credit history can get it.

650 credit scores are not excellent by any means.

I don't know what you're arguing at this point.

I already showed you a link with the average scores of a good amount of people and what they came up with. Many credit cards were harder to get than those charge cards.

Your links don't have anything backing it up other than what this guy believes. Whereas the link I posted is recorded from other people and actually does show some charge cards being maybe 10 points higher, which I hope is not what you're nitpicking about.

I had a Gold card in fucking Sophmore year of college dude. The Platinum card is also easy as fuck to get and they're always sending out promos for that the most. The scores in that link are actually lower than even the Gold Rewards.

That set spending limit thing can actually go as low as $1000. Having that term there gives them way more leeway.

This thread has people saying the same.

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/What-is-harder-to-get-approved-AMEX-Charge-Cards-or-AMEX-Credit/td-p/853610

That's odd. My first credit/charge card was the Green Card (I had just turned 19), although I called in to upgrade to Platinum within hours of receiving it (this was almost a year ago).

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-express-membership-rewards/737914-charge-cards-hard-get.html

The whole charge card being harder to get is a myth and definitely not accurate especially with the Gold and Platinum cards. Sorry if I rained on your parade. When you're churning for years and hang around Slickdeals and Flyertalk, you realize just about anyone with even a basic credit score can get it.

Hahahahaha your "years of churning experience" don't impress me. At this moment I am sitting on enough Amex points for several free first class tickets anywhere in the world.

Not really. I know people with 650s-680s that have those cards.

There's less risk involved for companies, so there's no reason it would be tougher than most cards.

The only cards that really mean anything are Amex Centurion (Black Card), JP Morgan Palladium, and Amex Private Wealth-Branded Platinum cards.

That "mean anything" doesn't mean much to most people.

Card Approval
Charge cards are usually harder to get than credit cards. They do not come with a set spending limit per se, although the issues can cap your buying limit if it chooses to do so. For example, you shouldnt expect to buy a new car with a charge card. In addition, charge cards require excellent credit and a high income level. They are aimed at consumers who have the ability to spend large sums of cash. Credit cards, on the other hand, are aimed at consumers who want to buy now and pay later.

https://pocketsense.com/easier-approved-charge-card-credit-card-6531.html

Are Charge Cards Easier to Get?
Charge cards are generally harder to get approved for than most other credit cards. Since they come with no preset spending limit, issuers face greater risks putting a card like this in the hands of someone who does not have a solid track record of paying back debts they could potentially make many purchases which, when unpaid, the issuer becomes liable for. This is why charge cards, such as the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card, require excellent credit to obtain.

nice! i just got their gold card in the mail yesterday. working on minimum spend for that 50k points so i can book my japan trip

ive been tempted time and time again to get that card, but i already have the sapphire reserve by chase, and 3 other amex cards so i mean, theres really no point. i dont take uber, though i know i can use it for uber eats. and i rarely book flights with cash so the 5x is useless to me. so id really only use the 200 dollar airline credit and i guess access to the centurion lounges.

but if i did get the plat, i'd get the charles schwabb variant so i can get that sexy 1.25 cash redemption rate.

Nice. Don't forget that you get free roadside assistance with the gold card. If you ever lock your keys in your car or your battery dies, they will send someone to rescue you for free.

It's not hard to get charge cards like Amex GR or Platinum. Charge cards carry less long term risk.

I wonder what is TC's credit limit though that comes with the Platinum, but it's just a curiosity he doesn't have to disclose here.

There is no preset spending limit--though that doesn't mean *no* limit. They amount you can charge to the card is a multiple of your past spending history + considers your income. The amount you can charge isnt disclosed, but they have a tool on their site that lets you enter in an amount to see if it is approved. You can basically charge whatever you want on it and the limit really only comes into play if you are trying to buy stuff like cars. Even then, you just have to call them in advance and let them know you are spending a lot.
The black card though, that one actually has NO limit. People can't apply for that card though--you have to be invited.

They overnighted it to me in a bigass welcome package. I have felt metal cards before, but this thing is a brick.

I have been thinking about getting it for a while, but finally decided to pull the trigger as I am traveling to Beverly Hills next month to get a minor cosmetic procedure done (god, I feel like such a douche typing that). Amex requires $5k in spending right off the bat to qualify for the welcome bonus, so I figure I will just throw it all on the card.

Will be a nice opportunity to try out the travel benefits as well. Might have the Amex concierge service book me lunch at Spago. Amex has special tables reserved at top restaurants, so they can get Platinum and Black card holders in even if the restaurant is fully booked. There are a ton of little things like that that make this card different from anything else on the market.
