A Dog's Purpose was mine.

Man, I've never cried so much during any movie ever. I always knew dogs dying was the sort of thing that brings on the waterworks, and... yeah.

Even though the tears were flowing, I still came out of it feeling better about life.

This is likely going to be my cathartic movie of choice for the next year, if not longer.

Lolo has beaten Link's Awakening.

Man, beating 8 before 6 really makes the Eagle's tower boss child's play (it dies to 3 hits of the fire rod). Eagle's Tower really is the most complicated dungeon, so it makes a good one right before the endgame.

Traded for the Boomerang right before entering the egg to use it for the final boss. :)

Their <1 year old: A small stuffed dog (when I finally make the trip over to see them), and a set of stackable cup/bath toys.

Eldest Sister (Europe): Nada, and same goes for my Brother-in-law and Nephew over there; shipping stuff over there costs so much.

This is true.

Let's put it this way, I haven't played a game like this since my brother and I played through Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and that was... back when we were living under the same roof, which was... like, 5 years ago.

There's also the fact that the PS4 controller I used had the jump and item button locations swapped from the usual locations which contributed to the starting ineptitude. (why the air combo I was trying to copy turned into jump then heavy attack which worked well on stationary things (like the ice wizard boss while he was charging) but didn't combo the soldiers nearly as well.

I mean, there's no doubt I leveled my yellow dude pretty wonkily.

But even with all that; I did have fun playing.

Beat Turtle Rock in Link's Awakening DX.

Still have the Face Shrine and Eagle's Tower to do though! =P
(You can walk past the flame-spewer on the way to Turtle Rock while the "secret medicine" is reviving you. This allows you to access Turtle Rock (and its flame rod) earlier, specifically once you have the Hookshot, rather than having to wait until you have the Mirror Shield.)

Just finished the color dungeon (Link's Awakening DX). (with the first three dungeons done)

Man, that boss at the end of it sure regenerates pretty fast. Had to use bombs along with sword swipes to get through. Chose Red at the end.

cool, the whole upside down thing is grating at my soul, but nice collection.

The NES cartridges are upside down on the titles above so that when I push them around to get a game, I can see the picture on the front of the cartridge.

but yeah I should have clearly taken my picture in a different orientation. >_>

Anyway, based on (nearly majority demand) Trails in the Sky is next. I know this is a long RPG... and that's about it.

Died twice on 10-2 (easy to mess up with a leaper). Died once on 10-4 (pretty stressful stage when it comes to playing chicken with the Don Medusa, but...)

10-5 is a bit of a hoot, with the whole bridge of gols. Makes a nice harrowing experience to end it.

Game beaten: Adventures of Lolo

Now, this was clearly a replay, but... it still shines through as one of those NES games worth completing. Puzzles aren't luck-based, or archaic, everything has clearly defined, simple rules. I especially appreciate how Gols and Skulls only "wake up" once the last heart is taken, as that gives you something to mitigate and predict in advance. Sometimes you can outrun them... and often, you can trap them or just avoid them altogether.

Trails in the sky isn't done downloading just yet, but it's far closer than it was when I started.

Died twice on 7-4, arrow maze with a skull. easy to get discombobulated at the end. Died once on 8-3, misplaced an emerald framer (probably my favorite block puzzle in the game, now that I think about it, having to push it that extra half step so that you block the other one's upward line of sight is awesome)

Died on 7-1, sadly, was careless and took an errant fireball to the face (which is pretty much all Lolo is, come to think of it). 7-2 is probably one of the scariest stages in the game from an initial view, but it's really not that bad. 7-3... the game's went into flashing blue screen of death.

good thing there's such a thing as passwords, but I gotta get this fixed first.

On the third floor (12 stages down).

This game does a few things that the later ones don't, namely letting you keep any shots after collecting the jewel (though they don't have a use), and sometimes gives you shots even when you don't need any to finish the stage (Floor 3 with 2 leepers gives you 4 shots but it's really easy to just put them to sleep somewhere out of the way.)
