Just to ask something, did Trump actually attempt to overturn the 2020 election results? Either way, I find it priceless that conservatives would retort back at claims that the Capitol insurrection seemed like something out of a Banana Republic by saying the "rigged" election indicates that the US is already one. Gets even better considering they're probably right, almost entirely down to their own actions.

I still have a hard time filing these pieces of crap off as being totally unreasonable even though the more time I spend away from it the more I realize how BS their narratives are now. Same with the "YouTube randos", who seem to really have it in for women of color in particular for some reason.

I'd say I have little attachment to Spider-Man, except I DID see the Maguire films and the first Garfield one when they were all new. So, I guess the cameos actually did mean stuff to me lol. IMO the film still characterized MCU Peter Parker well enough that I did care about what happened in the last act and I enjoyed his interactions with the other Peters, but...honestly, I'm not sure if there was anything else particularly great at that point in the film. Maybe Green Goblin's last moment? Everything regarding Goblin was awesome.

Saw Alien 3 and disagree hard. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate it a 6. There's so much talent both in front of and behind the camera you wonder how good the movie could have been if there was actually a concrete vision behind it and the studio didn't set out to make a release date over a movie.

I know most of the apparent complaints about She-Hulk seem to be of an ideological bent, but all the same the show does seem kind of limited in appeal. It has never been advertised as anything but a goofy law show, so people who liked that premise like the show while people who wrote it off to begin with thought it was trash. I guess professional critics, for however much worth they are, judged (no pun intended) the show based on what it was advertised as and therefore liked it?

I also like how I got notified by mods for a post I made where I made an ironic racist statement. However, I should have made that clearer to begin with, so my mistake. It was more meant to be that people who complained about Strange and Thor wouldn't think any better of BP because they seem to really have it in for women of color in particular for whatever reason. No wonder they wrote Batgirl off as being woke without knowing anything about the plot!

I thought of another idea for a ranking: "city noir"-type thrillers e.g., Taxi Driver, The Driver, The Warriors, Drive, Nightcrawler, The Nice Guys

One of the YouTubers I follow oftentimes collaborates with others to do a "31-on-31" at the end of 31-day months, and one time they did those franchises plus some other things (point is, they always rank 31 movies with there being a theme of sorts to each ranking). Last August they did "Monsters and Machines", a ranking of every Alien, Blade Runner, Terminator, Predator, RoboCop, Total Recall, and Matrix movie. The only reason I didn't directly suggest that is because I know some of those movies were featured on a sci-fi ranking back in 2018.

Oh oh oh I know, rank Keanu Reeves movies!

Ooh ooh I know, rank every movie in the Die Hard, Mission: Impossible, Rambo, Lethal Weapon, and John Wick franchises together.

The same Republican Party that's at the center of so much controversy now is going to take both branches of government. This world.

Maybe Republicans are galvanized when they're no longer the establishment? That leaves so many red flags for the country as a whole going forward, pun not intended.

Oh yeah, that sucks. I also made the mistake of seeing a video response to Anita Sarkeesian's proclamation of victory in terms of having made the industry better where basically every comment acted like the reason the industry sucks is because it's woke. Unbelievable, after all the various scandals elsewhere.

Anita's work in general is garbage, but not in a way that merits such outrage.

On the one hand, I think the whole situation with Blizzard is even worse than the one with Harvey Weinstein since the higher-ups apparently knew what was going on and actively facilitated it. On the other hand, the one with Weinstein had more far-reaching implications given how comparatively smaller and more centralized the movie industry is, versus the games industry not even being as Americentric let alone California-centric.

It's going to be difficult to keep the presidency after 2 years of a lame-duck Biden presidency and 2 years of people forgetting what Donald Trump did.

On the one hand, I doubt people will forget what Trump did given he's still a fixture of the news, and if anything, it seems his poor pandemic response might even overshadow all his other controversies. On the other hand, I think lots of Republicans simply don't know or don't care about what their party has become, to say nothing of those who will never vote Democrat on principle because f*** SJWs.

Don't know what the Carry On movies are, and we could theoretically do a list of all the ____ Movie movies but I don't know that anybody wants that lmao

The Carry On movies were spoofs released in the '50s and '60s. I know about them mostly because they're on TV all the dang time where I live.

EDIT: How did I not notice Happy Gilmore there? Even assuming satire and parody are interchangeable terms in this case, what about Happy Gilmore makes it a spoof?

For satire, was The World's End already on a previous list? I imagine Blazing Saddles was. Also, I guess the Carry On movies are getting saved for their own list? Is a Scary Movie ranking up for some time?

The problem I have is that there's minimal (or no) build-up to the moments when characters get in trouble. It's like a comedian who keeps shouting punchlines without enough setup.

This is honestly a fair opinion. From what I gather however, this was fully intentional - it's supposed to show the nature of gangster life. Helps that the movie was based on a non-fiction book, though it still takes liberties obviously.

Also, the real Henry Hill was still alive when the movie came out, so technically it was a foregone conclusion he'd survive.

I said "typically". I see no need to use that kind of rhetoric regardless of if someone is actually a bigot or not, so it seems like a way to implausibly deny bigoted intent at best.

Just to ask, should I typically see anyone who complains about something like "you can't criticize X or you're racist/sexist" as tacitly admitting they're a bigot?

Something about Goodfellas never clicked for me, and it wasnt until this rewatch that I diagnosed the problem. Its a simple one: theres barely any drama or suspense. The movie trots out one fun, energetic scene after another, and thats all it does. Theres no real plot, no discernable stakes. Its just This happened, then this happened, then Pesci shoots Tony Sopranos nephew, then this happened, and more of this happened.

Scorsese admitted straight-up that he made a feature-length montage. Personally, I found it glorious, but I guess I understand this take?

Heck, it feels a little odd to say there are "no discernable stakes" in a movie where people keep getting in trouble left and right.

Rather than crafting a cohesive story, Scorsese assembles a collection of amusing anecdotes from mob life. Which is fine, I guess, but it never makes me fear for the wiseguys. The only remotely suspenseful part of the entire film is when the helicopter tracks Henry prior to the final bust, and at that point, a high-stakes sequence felt misplaced.

Dont get me wrong, its a fun movie, and that Tommy DeVito is a funny guy, but Im not as high on Goodfellas as most. C

Pulp Fiction is going to be #1.

Saw Werewolf by Night, well this sure is interesting. I think I liked it overall.

Training Day and Snatch lasted way too long.

Remember when Denzel Washington pointed two guns at that guy's crotch while talking to him way too close? What is he an anime villain? That movie is way too silly to take seriously and it's shot like a TV show. Plus, it's hardly even about organized crime. Something like Deep Cover would have been a better fit for the list.

Sorry for the double reply, but Washington exuded so much charisma in the role I didn't mind. In general, I felt like his and Hawke's performances and characters were well-realized enough to make up for other shortcomings.

Recently it came to mind how Gene Siskel gave thumbs down to Scarface, Carlito's Way, and Casino, where he found the first of those three predictable and the last one to retread ground from Goodfellas too much (note that Ebert loved all three films). Also, they both gave thumbs down to Reservoir Dogs.

I'm increasingly on board with the Goldblum memes the more stuff I see him in. He was one of the best things about Lost World hands down.

Stupid idea: rank Michael Bay films

That finale was a bit all over the place, although I don't think it soured me on the series badly enough for me to turn on it.

Heh, I thought the 2nd episode was the low point. But oh no apparently everything falls apart in the last episode. I thought the 1st episode was a very effective introduction to the character and the 4th offered some good old-fashioned high adventure. I'm also finding the twist about the asylum interesting. Can't say I'm a fan of the stuff involving the barge and the hippo lady though. Too many special effects dang it! I only remember the action and spectacle from the third episode.

Every actor is doing a really good job here, particularly Isaac and Hawke. I never expected the latter could play such a chilling villain! Also find it amusing the three leads of the movie Gattaca have all played comic book villains now.

One more episode left to go in Moon Knight, liking it overall so far.

That still makes me think of Roger Ebert's criticism of Miller's Crossing as more an exercise in style than anything and one he'd recommend mostly for fans of gangster movies. I don't have a hard time imagining that a lot of the rankers here might have just been tired when they got to Miller's Crossing and saw the same stuff.

I mean, I wouldn't exactly know for sure, but I never got the impression Miller's Crossing was comedic in the same way Guy Ritchie films are. Someone who has actually seen the film can feel free to correct me though.

Disagree hard on Training Day, can't say I like Snatch. Feel like Guy Ritchie films might just not be for me.

Honestly, you're not entirely wrong. I do tend to get drawn to stuff people like to mock mercilessly pre-release.

Not to veer too off-topic, but these pieces of crap are somehow convinced that the pre-Zaslav regime at WB wanted to replace Superman and Batman with Supergirl and Batgirl. First of all, we have no way of knowing for sure even though it does seem fairly likely. Second, that would hardly be the dumbest decision WB made regarding its comic book properties - heck, hiring Snyder in the first place was arguably just as stupid if not worse. Third, WB has a different Batman continuity going, meaning it's specifically Affleck's Batman fans are clamoring for...what a huge loss. And when was the last time Superman really brought big bucks for WB?

I will straight up admit that I have still been occasionally checking on Midnight's Edge just out of sheer curiosity, but the talking points surrounding Batgirl I brought up because I found them even on more 'neutral' areas. Plus I'm genuinely unnerved by people who said Batgirl looked 'woke' when we knew nothing about the plot - so apparently it was going to be woke just for having a Latina lead? It doesn't take a social justice warrior to detect the unfortunate implications.

That just reminds me of running into a comment somewhere (NOT a Midnight's Edge video, dear god) which labelled the cancelled Batgirl movie a blatant attempt at writing out Ben Affleck's Batman. That makes me wonder where all the people clamoring for Batffleck's return came from since that would totally be such a huge loss.

Zack Snyder fans are the worst.

Episode 3 of Moon Knight down, well this is something.

Saw Predator 2, don't know how exactly to write about it or how much of a horror movie it counts as. Outwardly I do think it does a good job expanding on the premise of the original film and it's clearly having a lot of fun with itself. There's not much to the plot but the movie is consistently engaging in some way...yeah I don't know how to properly assess this movie. I would say I like it overall for the reasons I brought up earlier, in that it sets up a lot of interesting ideas in the first act and have them come together in a satisfactory if not standout way.

Rating: 7/10

Remember loving the 1983 Scarface. It did get a lot of bad reviews at the time though.

Seen Dead Meat's kill counts for the first three Scream films. Only other thing I know about Scream 2 is that Gene Siskel liked it despite not liking the first one.

Worse President than Trump IMO. Though that's mostly because he got two terms somehow whereas Trump was voted out after one.

Trump was partly a response to Bush, so I'd say Bush was more destructive in the long term anyway.
