God damn I had one of the best FATE sessions but forgot to take a screenshot

So in the South Shroud there's this one area where a group of bandits called the Redbellies make their hideout right? Well there's two back to back FATEs there, first is Breaking the Hive, which would have us and a group of Wood Wailers storm inside and break the 3 gates of the base. Once that's done, another mission starts up where we have to take down the big bad himself. All the while we're stormed by seemingly endless bandits everywhere, and when Spencer (the boss) had low HP he ran off to a different area and unleashed his pet Adamantoise. I had another person help me, it was bloody good fun.

Of course my joining a Grand Company won't go smoothly. The Officer says that they're spread thin, and asks us to give the Serpents a landing hand and scout out the crash site of the airship shot down by the Gridaneans first. Nearby we met a gruff airship crewmember who was about to trade blows with us but the rest of the Serpent contingent arrived and we launch our ambush



At first it was a normal unit vs unit fight, but when everyone but the Imperial Decurion was down and he was at low health...



This thing showed up, firing lazers and missiles like there's no tomorrow



We quickly finish it off, and earn Biggs and Wedge's undying gratitude for saving them and their prototype airship. New kind huh.



With that we finally join the Twin Adders



And get our first Chocobo! Calliope, stick with me and we'll go places. With my first mount (and also Whisper-go), zooming around the battlefield from FATE to FATE was easy, and I get my 2nd Yo-Kai weapon, the Robonyan Paladin Sword and Shield set. 2 down, 11 more to go... though to be clear, 16 Legendary medals down, 206 Legendary medals to go

In like 15 days? Geez.

Admiral has nautical terms for DAYS (and also has to contend with two beast tribe and a volatile anarchic structure to boot) while Kan-E is really somber.

And yet, my heart goes out for Gridania's plight most of all. Call me a sentimental softy, but I'm pledging my allegiance there. For now anyway, apparently it can be changed from what Minfilia said?



Meanwhile our mysterious friends Alphinaud and Alisaie (who I just remembered were in the caravan at the start of my journey) have a rather intense coversation, or at least on Alisaie's part. Seems the lack of Warrior of Lights in the speeches pushed a button with her, and apparently they're separating and trying to find a way to heal Eorzea? Whatever that means.

Optional dungeon hooooooo... interrupting the VERY hotblooded Raubahn's speech

Doesn't seem to be much of a story. From what we know everything here used to be in a Colisseum. The only mechanics for dungeoneering were operating Dungeon Winches to do... something. Probably unlock the final door.



Our first boss is a beefed up Elemental who didn't do much of anything... until the two gates behind it opened and in flooded smaller elementals marching towards the bonfire in the middle, and when it gets there KABOOM! Annoying, but since the flow is basically endless and I'm not sure if there was a way to close the gates again, we just rushed Firemane and got done with it. In a unique twist, our way forward is through the fireplace like in a certain wizard story.




The second boss is a Thunder Lizard (not that kind). After trading hits the Guivre will retreat to the middle of the room and electrify the floor, sending wave after wave of Lightning elementals our way. Fortunately it's not endless, and after we take care of the self-destructing bastard we repeat the cycle until the Lizard is dead.



I'd love to tell you more about the main boss Tangata...



But then THIS happened. So apparently all 3 of my teammates (who I suspect are part of a Guild or something with their matching uniforms) left me behind while I was watching the cutscene, and when it ended I was locked out.



Whatever, Dungeon done. I commendated the Healer who was kind of enough to stay behind and heal my stupid ass... because I accidentally attracted the attention of several enemies while waiting for thse guys to beat the boss. WHOOPS!

Dammit guys sometimes I want to see the cutscene.

Anyway, back to listening to Raubahn's MANLY speech.

Shortly after though Recruit officers from the Twin Adders, the Immortal Flames, and the Maelstroms come bursting in all atwitter and trying to recruit Zhien into their Grand Companies. But first, we're going to the Remembrance... thingies... and see their spiel.

We didn't find Foulques in the Central Shroud, but we did find one of his victims at the mercy of Lindwurms



After killing them, the hapless dude says that Foulques went to the North Shroud, and that his days are numbered since the Wood Wailers are on the case as well and that we shouldn't bother going after him.



Good thing I didn't listen to that guy eh? He looks fine and dandy for a psycopath.



Foulques reveals that he set all of this up so he can one final showdown with Zhien. It's also backstory time, with Foulques saying that he wasn't always like this, he was previously a fine upstanding Gridanian citizen who stole from the guild-

Dude are you ****ing kidding me

Anyway he confessed but none of his partner in crimes did, and he wallowed in prison for a time until he snapped and killed people and their offsprings, all so he could obtain Courage and become the greatest Lancer of all! Yeah time to put you down.



In the beginning we just trade blows, with me dodging his Heartstropper and me doing a True-Vorpal-Full Thrust Combo all under the influence of Heavy Trust and making sure Lifesurge is in effect when it's time to land Full Thrust.



Then he cheats (of course), not by unleashing his special move Heart of Frost causing an area to freeze, but by calling forth his undead Lancer minions.





Zhien's too awesome to be overwhelmed by numbers though, and sure enough Foulques snaps yet again and is so ****ing frightened of us he accidentally backs away into an abyss, all the while a frozen look of frightened shock on his face.

Good ****ing riddance

Ywain is sorry that it had to come to this, but congratulates Zhien and says the Final Trial is no longer needed: He has nothing more to teach us, other than Blood for Blood, and releases us from his care.

... holy crap does this buff stack with Heavy Thrust?

AND THE FIGHT BEGINS IN EARNEST! For the first part of the fight, it's pretty straightforward, though Ifrit has this nasty habit of using a radiating attack that knocks me away and sometimes turns to attack me or the Healer/Ranged DPS instead of the tank.





Then the nail ****ing drops and everybody scrambled to destroy it, it's so beautiful. The attack still hurt, but not as much as it could have been




The rest of the fight involved me running around like a headless chicken and darting in to attack Ifrit while he goes ballistic and Radiant Plumes, Eruptions, and all around NUKES the entire battlefield at random. But FINALLY!



Ifrit succumbs, and all that's left is a Red Crystal. Hmm... when we picked it up though...



Weird



Thancred is late to the party, but all's well that ends well. Everybody is safe, and we've still got the two traitors apprehended




Spoke too soon, apparently these two Garlean Goons were behind it, and they were disappointed at Ifrit's current state. YOU MEAN HE WAS STRONGER?

In any case, done with my first Trial. It was bloody good fun. But now it's time to do my level 30 lancer quest, and probably dig down and focus on Yokai Medals. I want my ****ing Mount, ugly thing that it is.

Before I forget, I unlocked what i think is an optional dungeon called Halatali... and something called the Palace of the Dead? But I'm not sure how to enter the latter... it's not in my Duty Finder.

The mission: Thancred has managed to find out Ungust's next meeting with the Amalj'aa, so he forces him to do the meeting as usual, but this time the Immortal Flames will be lying in wait to ambush and capture them. That's where we come in, to help bolster their numbers. Though apparently Thancred is busy elsewhere... man I wanted his help.

So...



Here I am at the Invicible City, just waiting to begin our ambush.

Long story short, me and Thancred did some detective work at Camp Drybone. After a few false leads and wearing a stinky disguise, we discover the culprit behind both the kidnappings and robbery...



It was Ungust, the merchant whose bodyguards we fought right after finishing the Gyges dungeon. As it turns out he struck a deal with the Amalj'aa (Lizardkin worshippers of Ifrit): in return for sparing the Golden Bazaar from their raids, Ungus will provide them with crystal shipment schedules and people for... some reason. Ungust denies giving them info about Immortal Flames patrol schedules though. Thancred then continues to grill him while we report back to Minfilia.

After reporting, we're tasked with meeting a goblin called Mutamix for a new way to enhance our equipment. Neat

So Minifilia explains what the Scions do (ugh Primals, almost time huh) and explains what's been happening to Zhien. Apparently he has the power of Echo (no not to have a witty banter, but to transcend souls).

And now I can have Retainers. SCORE! Now the ultimate, burning question: Maid or Butler?

After introductions, our first task is to help the Immortal Flames of Uld'ah regarding a pair of crimes: The robbery of a shipment of crystals, and abductions. The Scions believe that these two are connected to the cult of Ifrit, and while the company whose crystals got stolen doubled up on their security, we'll first focus on the abductions. TO THE CAMP!

I... didn't like our Tank very much. He kept darting everywhere trying to pull everybody and resulting in a few zeroing on me, the other DPS, or worst of all the healer. Still, no harm done in the end since he quickly darts back to get their attention as well.




I like the midboss Ichorous Ire! He's basically unstoppable while gigantic, but every so often a Bomb will come along and self destruct, and then we have to protect it from the damn Sprites that barge in as well as lure the Ire into the AoE of the Bomb's self destruct. Every successful one splits it smaller and smaller until we can finally damage it ourselves.





Gyges the Great, poor fellow. Had he and his ilk not be filled with INCANDESCENT RAGE they would have realized their masters were long gone and they could have been free to leave. But 300 years of hatred don't go away that easy, so they gotta die for the mine to operate.

Anyway, his mechanic is that he will go off to slam the wall a couple of times, summoning one of his brethren, who will then go off and try to do the same. We ended up ignoring them and just zeroed in on Gyges




3rd dungeon complete! Time to report and get our reward-
