Ubisoft's downward financial spiral pretty much exactly coincides with when they stopped putting their new games on Steam, and put them only on Uplay and Epic instead. It's not the only reason obviously, but still hard to deny the correlation when Steam is more popular than ever

Similar to Square Enix, Ubisoft only has themselves and their idiotic financial decisions to blame for their financial woes

Square-Enix so badly wants to sit at the big boy table with other AAA publishers

Yet they routinely take exclusivity deals from whoever will offer them: Sony, Nintendo, or even the fucking Epic store

Nah sorry man. Putting the likes of Roshi in the Tournament of Power, or even making a deal with the devil to get Frieza in there, instead of Yamcha was just way too over the top. They even made fun of him in the show iirc, like he was looking forward to being asked, but never was. And it's not like he didn't have some unique attacks (Spirit Ball, Wolf Fang Fist) that could have made for some interesting fights

I mean culturally yeah he was in the west too. But not in-universe. They left him out of the Tournament of Power and did the whole Saibamen pose during that baseball game filler episode. Felt a little too "Ha ha Yamcha bad, so funny!"

Anyway, it was impressive how these games were slapped together by a ragtag group of ex-Square employees, many of whom never even played a Pokemon game prior to this. I wish they stuck around Genius Sonority and kept making spinoff Pokemon RPGs

I believe Masuda was recently asked about Colosseum and XD getting ported or sequels or some sort of attention recently, and he basically laughed and said "no". Unfortunate, but I believe he had a similar reaction to Pokemon Snap in the past, and that ended up getting onto the Switch Online N64 app and a new game on the Switch. Maybe since Nintendo has mostly exhausted Wii U ports, they'll want Colosseum and XD ported sometime down the line to fill in the release calendar for the Switch 2

It just seems like this dude has a grudge against Colosseum for some reason. A lot of your complaints about purifying Pokemon are just plain incorrect. Hard to take any of your complaints seriously though when you start off with implying that they're difficult games. They are literally children's games. I beat them just fine as a kid, and even got Ho-Oh in Colosseum and figured out the purification chamber in XD to purify my shadow Lugia

Just last year solo'd (duo'd?) Colosseum with the starting Umbreon and Espeon, and solo'd XD with the starting Eevee (not evolved) just so I could transfer everything else untouched up to my Pokemon Home account. It was fine. I even solo'd (duo'd?) Mt. Battle with them to get Ho-Oh, and did the side quest at the end of XD to get the fabled Lucky Egg just for fun

They are great games. The only caveat I will add is that it sucks they don't let you skip animations, so I played them with speed up activated on my Steam Deck. Maybe that would fix some of your problems with the games

While there are obviously flaws with Niantic lets not go with the whole better developer side because the nature of phone games will always try to find ways to monetize the consumers because by their very design they have to gain something to constantly continue as a service.

Not necessarily, Nintendo itself has multiple smartphone games that are much more player-friendly AND are much less aggressive with the monetization

The only time I remember them listening to the fans is when they increased the pokestop spin radius during covid, then reverted it back soon after. Everyone was outraged so they increased the radius back again, but were very passive aggressive about how they announced they were reverting it

I think it's one thing for a Japanese dev studio to be very insular, like Nintendo or something. But western studios like Niantic can't really get away with that imo. There's a reason every single other game they've made has failed. They are bad game developers who make bad business decisions and ignore their playerbase's wishes

If they didn't luck into literally the largest media franchise in the world, they would have gone out of business years ago since nobody gives a shit about augmented reality anymore. I really wish The Pokemon Company would pull the license and give the game to a better developer. It could be a much higher quality product that makes more money and is more player-friendly

I tried to make my character built like a weight lifter, but the chest slider only seems to give him man boobs instead of pecks. I lift 5 days a week so I guess my body type just isn't allowed? Now I know how pretty women feel when trying to create themselves in modern games lol. Sucks

What I also hate are local-only Raids, where you can't even use remote passes for them. It's near-impractical for most players to get a local group of players going in time for those raids.

Then there are the Shadow Raids, which are both local only and require you to grind for and use those shards to weaken the Shadow Pokemon, and people have reported that even those tend to not weaken the Pokemon enough to make it feasible to defeat them in time.

Among other reasons, this is also why I have stopped giving Niantic any money.

Yeah the shadow raids and elite raids are awful. I have friends who play but we live in different cities. We don't have time to drive around for hours within a short window to MAYBE find the raid we're looking for and MAYBE end up catching the Pokemon. It was really stupid how they only did Enamorus on Valentine's Day and Regieleki on Easter last year, as if people have nothing better to do on holidays than play Pokemon Go to MAYBE get one of each

In case you didn't know, Pokemon Go was more popular during covid than it was even during 2016, thanks to the addition of remote raid passes and other suburb- and rural-friendly content updates

In 2022 they began to roll back these features since it went against their "vision" for the game, until they completely nerfed remote raid passes in 2023, limiting them and drastically increasing the price

As a result, 2023 was just about their worst year yet when accounting for inflation

The company is located in San Francisco and for some reason, they have tunnel vision that their ENTIRE playerbase lives in an urban metropolis like them, with pokestops and gyms everywhere you look

Obviously this is not the case but they won't listen to feedback from suburban and rural players. So, they get way less money now. Well-deserved, if you ask me

I want to love Pokemon Go but I just can't get past Niantic

I've never seen a game company seemingly so resentful of, and adversarial towards, its own playerbase. Almost every single update just seems like it's intended to bother or inconvenience the player, or at least squeeze more money out of them
