A grade schooler's grades are more often reflective of their environment, unless they have a significant learning disability.

This. There's something that's going wrong at home, school, or extracurriculars if someone without a learning disorder is straight up flunking our country's relatively weak baseline curriculums.

oh jeez, it was because of an aneurysm too

my mom had one when she was younger but thanks to causing massive headaches doctors were able to find it and perform surgery before it got to the point where it could kill her

There is a hereditary component to aneurysms. You should get yourself checked with something like an MRI when you get the opportunity. Hers might have had warning signs, but you never know if you get one that doesn't have them.

Anyone else wonder that COVID might be behind this aneurysm?

We know that blood clots are a major symptom of the virus infection. Broadway star Nick Cordero had them in his legs which resulted in the amputation. Unfortunately, if Grant comes up COVID positive (i don't know if they would even test for that), then maybe it was a blood clot in the brain that directly led to a ruptured blood vessel.

lasting damage to the body?

Some research indicates that damage ranging from long-lasting pneumonia in the lungs, to bacterial infections, to kidney damage that requires dialysis, to low blood-oxygen levels, to abnormal blood clotting, and more, are present in survivors of COVID-19.

As time goes on, we are of course going to see more cases, which means more people who survive it. I feel like so many people look at recovery in a binary perspective, where you either die in a very small and worst case scenario, or survive it and are 100% fine, when that really isn't the case. It seems more like a spectrum of prognoses, where death is only one point at one end, and there is a whole host of very unsavory symptoms and effects this virus has for many other points on the spectrum (look at Nick Cordero for a sad case that is probably dangerously close to the 'death point' on the spectrum).

Does anyone have any longlasting effects of COVID-19 or know someone who has them? I'm trying to convince family and friends to stay in and not take a slowdown in news coverage or cases in our area as a sign that we are in a celebratory victory lap. I of course look for articles too, such as one that I found of a young and healthy NYT writer who apparently still has trouble not getting out of breath just from walking around, 1 month after a release from a hospital.

I fear that there will be so much panic, despair, and death all along the East and Gulf coasts due to hurricane season and now COVID in the coming months. Even certain shortages or rationing of groceries creates even more dire circumstances. I shudder to think of how in the world such situations will be handled by the citizens themselves, and the organizations like FEMA or the Red Cross.

My condolences go out early for those on this board who live in or know people who live in hurricane-prone areas.

so a 5 day supply? still way to many, but even now doctors hand that crap out like candy.

did she sleep the first day? after that, encourage her to swap over to acetaminophen, it wont eliminate the pain but it will reduce it. suggest she only take another opioid if she cant sleep later.

Well it's to be used as needed. She took like 2 naps her first day back, each one maybe 1.5-2 hours but she was in a deep sleep. I'll definitely stress only using the hydrocodone if it is night time and time for her to sleep but she can't because of the pain in her head, but I can't force her not to take it if she knows it works, is not taking more than 1 pill every 6 hours as instructed, and if her team of doctors and neurosurgeons said it was okay. That's not the sort of stress her brain needs right now.

I know doctors get a bad rap for overprescribing opioids, but if ever a time to use them, I would imagine this would be it. With no real other drug use in her life besides alcohol sparingly, and no prior addictions, I hope and presume that she could handle the hydrocodone. I'm not too knowledgeable on opioids and I know they all can be dangerous, but from what I can glean from googling, hydrocodone is strong compared to conventional drugs but not nearly as strong as some other ones that are prescribed.

Does she enjoy drugs in general and enjoy how opioids make her feel? Or does she enjoy the pain relief? Because in my somewhat limited experience there, the drug seekers like how it feels and want to feel that way. My wife was on a ton of opioids and it just took the pain away, she didn't get high from it.

She's a very casual drinker but that's the extent of her drug use. She enjoyed the fact that her throbbing headache last night was almost immediately relieved when she took the pill. I don't think she got high, but she got itchy (a side effect of hydrocodone according to what I've looked up) this morning during breakfast but that subsided rather quickly. Then again, it was several hours after she took the pill so it might have just worn off as the pill did too. She went back to sleep not too long ago because she's still tired of course from not getting sleep at the hospital to only really getting a nap or two of solid sleep in the last 24 hours.

The pill bottle has 20 pills and recommends taking 1 for pain relief, but not any more than 1 pill every 6 hours. Breakfast went quite well honestly and she is not as very stiff and tense as she was when she got home yesterday. She needed 2 hands to drink from a glass of water yesterday, clenching the glass and with a general rigor in her torso and arms, and she only needed one today and as I said had a much more relaxed posture.

We are taking the "brain rest" order from the doctor very seriously. I got exactly 0 hours of real sleep last night just out of general anxiousness about the situation, and if the rest of the day goes well I hope to pass out and lessen my worries which don't do anyone any good.

hope they only gave her ~3 days worth of hodrocodone. its stupid to prescribe more then that for take home use, hell its stupid to prescribe them for take home use in general...

20 pills in total. It says on the bottle to use for pain as needed, but not more than 1 pill every 6 hours.

2 days ago, a dear family member slipped and fell and hit her forehead in her home. She was passed out for 1-3 minutes and her family called 911 immediately and got her to urgent care. A few CT scans, urine tests, and an EKG later, and she was home around 16 hours later. She was diagnosed with a mild TBI and a subdural hematoma. The doctors fully expect the hematoma to resolve itself.

Obviously the Dr.s' orders are being followed, with an emphasis on brain rest. Drugs consist of an anti-seizure med and hydrocodone which scares all of us because that is a clear opioid and we are in an opioid pandemic. She napped once or twice yesterday but when it came time to sleep she couldn't really do it, partially because she had a throbbing headache. She took the hydrocodone and - presto, there was immediate relief, but unfortunately she still didn't sleep well.

We're worried about a lot her, and her saying this morning that she anticipates that she certainly is going to need to take more of the hydrocodone pills later on is troubling too.

Is there any words of encouragement or any advice that people who dealt with a TBI directly or indirectly can share? Obviously her case is hers alone and unique, but is there a light at the end of the tunnel, and is there a way to perhaps ensure a budding opioid addiction doesn't arise?

People don't have exactly the same body.

You might just genetically have it in your blueprint to have less T or B-cells than someone else. You might have lungs with fewer alveoli than someone else. You might have an extra-strong immune system and it goes overboard and damages your own organs. There's a virtually unlimited amount of reasons as to why two people who catch the same pathogen have different experiences.

As good as it is that he seems to have recovered, the fact that he needed multiple hospital visits and professional treatment over a series of WEEKS is frightening beyond belief. What if the hospital just didn't have the room to care for him? 49 isn't that old. I fear a lot of people aged 30-50 will die when they are told that the hospital is operating at capacity, or an older person who is in the middle of treatment and still in the throes of the virus will have their treatment taken away because there's a better chance someone else will live with that hospital bed that they are currently occupying. Like what's happening it Italy where they just hook you up with painkillers and let you die.

And that's not even considering the fact that liver failure is a symptom with an increasing presence in these cases. If you are young and have healthy lungs with no asthma or condition like that, you can still have your organs just completely crap out. And again, without actual professional treatment (which is becoming more scarce), how in the world can you fight off KIDNEY FAILURE by just drinking fluids and getting rest at home?

I had it professionally installed by my provider Monday and was hoping it would sort itself out but it hasn't.

Do I just have to make another appointment? My old router with the same provider worked perfectly fine with no drops ever until it just up and died on Sunday.
