Barbs are very eq dependant and also start off the weakest by far (even compared to a sorc honestly).
They get a bunch of abilities that boost them all at once long term, but it takes awhile to get there and +skills make a big diff because of that as well.

Barb is my least favorite class though and I rarely played one.

Whirlwind make brain go brrrr. Honestly I might restart as something else. What would you recommend to feel less squishy @wolfy42

I don't like the controls at all. Other than the sword, it's all ass backwards. A is for using items and R is for other actions. And select brings up the item screen and start brings up the save menu. They should be the other way around. I also hate that they removed the ability to start at the mountain cave. If they had to remove one to make room for starting at the saved place, they should've removed the sanctuary.

I didn't like how they added Link sound effects they did the same thing with the gba port of Yoshis island and I hated it

Yeah I'm playing a barbarian single player and have beat this game tons of times. I dont remember being this squishy
