In some u.s. states iirc, it's a much lower cost alternative to full coverage auto insurance, you pay less than full coverage but iirc even if you are not at fault in a car accident i think that the insurance won't pay to fix your car. Sometimes the officer sees the speed, but doesnt lock it in. Thats still admissible because he saw it. Its like an officer observing any crime in plain view. He doesnt have to have it recorded to pursue charges on it. is that right? he doesn't even have to have a real number? him just estimating your speed is good enough? In michigan at least iirc it's perfectly legal to ask every time.
