Look, here's the thing. I don't like Rittenhouse as a person. But if you can one or two things and instead of a white kid he was a black kid and he was there protecting a business and someone threatened to kill him and he shot the same white person I'd want that kid to walk too based off the law.

I think its clear that if Rittenhouse was black he would be found guilty, and thats where some chunk of the outrage stems from

I don't think psychopathy has an agreed to clinical definition by any major organization.

The way I always used/understood it was sociopaths were those who basically lacked the ability to feel empathy. Usually you'd see it manifest as a lack of conscience and they could identify societal rules and use their corresponding lack of shame/remorse to take advantage of that in ways most people would be unable to emotionally but hypothetically you could still be a "good" person it's just not how it tends to be portrayed.

Whereas I thought of psychopathy as what most people tend to think of when they think of the extremely negative stereotypes of mentally ill people - basically a person whose condition(s) causes them to react unpredictably and often violent.

but then i am one of those laypeople so i could just be dumb

I look at it as sociopaths are unable to internalize morality, psychopaths understand morality but dont care

What are you even specifically saying is wrong with the overall system in this case, though? Because I don't see how outlining the case as it has proceeded is really a counterpoint to it in any way.

Not guilty != being a good person.

I think a lot of the frustration people have is that they want the system to be biased against him the way that it has historically been biased against disadvantaged people and minorities, and theyre expressing it in toxic irrational ways.

The system shouldnt be equally AWFUL for everyone, it should be equally FUNCTIONAL for everyone, but since thats seemingly culturally impossible, its easier to root for corruption to make it equally unfair. Like thats the closest thing to justice that can actually exist.

Its some mixture of cultural pain and indignity, being misled by biased media coverage of the trial, and performative tribalism.

Im on the start of S3 of X-Men. Been a while since I finished S2. Its ok, but so far its not very great. I can see why it was a classic since it was such an early superhero series and for the great X-Men, but it kinda leaves a lot to be desired. This trial is a great example of what happens when you let mob mentality try to dictate how the criminal justice system works. I'm actually surprised the Chauvin trial went down as it did, given how ballsy it was to go after a murder charge instead of the more appropriate manslaughter, but I think the people involved in that trial were more concerned about more riots than they were about laying appropriate charges.

Could you please look into what the charges he was convicted of mean in Minnesota instead of spouting ignorance? Thanks

The reason unions dont work for police is that the management are other cops who already provide protection for their guys, aka The Thin Blue Line.

Its a totally different dynamic, and why Unions are good but police Unions are not.

Again, the only reason these things happen is because police are not accountable to anyone, and corrupt labour unions are to blame. Why do police need a union? The only purpose a union serves in 2021 is to make sure that none of their members ever have to face any personal responsibility, so you can see how adding this to the occupation that is supposed to protect and serve will cause major ramifications if left unchecked.

Eliminate police unions and suddenly cops have personal responsiblity again. Enforce body cameras to make sure they are behaving appropriately, and it will serve both the purpose of protecting citizens, but also protecting the police against bogus claims. It is literally win-win, and cops will benefit from never having to give part of their paycheque up to a bunch of corrupt jerk union reps

Who enforces body cameras in this scenario? The police?
