Do you really understand the issue this poorly, or are you just being disingenuous to avoid confronting it?

I really am trying to understand. This so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill is really a "Don't Talk To Kids About Sex Until At Least 4th Grade" bill. Because sex is a mature topic I thought. How an 8 year old feels "sexually" is not a question many, if any, should ask.

But for some reason people have a problem with that. And I don't understand.

Same with Texas. Is it a law saying your little man can't wear lipstick and a skirt? I can't find anything saying it is. It's more of a "Don't subject them to radical and irreversible hormone therapy" law. But people don't like that either. These common sense things that, up until very very recently, were unthinkable to do with children.

Anybody remember how they had sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer on there? As a "word doctor" named Ruth Wordheimer?

I'm not sayin' the groomer fix was in as early as the 2000s, but as much as we like to be like "Oh wow, Sesame Street did a Game of Thrones parody," they never had the gumption to have a sex therapist on their show. Helping Muppet monkeys handle their fear of "long words" and suggesting that bored letter couples try threesomes.

But that's the thing: The Christian ideal of forgiveness means you don't hold that murder against the murderer for the rest of their life. You can respond as is practically necessary (that is, somebody prone to committing murder should be imprisoned to protect society from them), but you should not say "you're a murderer and therefore a horrible person and I will treat you accordingly." Those that are sinning should be advised and encouraged to repent, but once they are repentant, judging them for the sins for which they have repented goes against core Christian philosophy.

Forgiveness is only for those who repent. You must first admit that you are a filthy sinner and that you wish to change. Only then do I not hold your sins against you.

Nobody. It could, it could not, but nobody can really tell.

It is, which is why you shouldn't do that. There's a very key distinction between "you're doing something bad" and "you're a bad person." It's completely possible to say the former and justify doing so by relating it to the latter, but extrapolating the former into the latter is just poor statistical interpretation, even if we put all moral questions aside.

That's not how it goes for any other bad thing a person could do though. If I was a murderer, I would be called a murderer. You wouldn't say "Murdering is bad, you shouldn't do it, although I'm sure you're a fine person aside from how you kill people." If you murder, you're as filthy as a murderer is filthy. And if you sin, you're as filthy as a sinner is filthy.

"You're going to Hell" is. "That might send you to Hell" is not. Ultimately, everyone (that cares) is just playing the odds and hoping they don't piss off the big guy too much; no single act (with a few exceptions) is going to seal the deal one way or the other.

Who says this sin won't seal the deal?

But even if it didn't, I'm still not understanding how accusing someone of being a filthy sinner isn't a personal judgement. If I as a Christian see you sinning, I can say you're a sinner, and that it's bad to be one.

Elon Musk is a lot like Kanye. Lots of talk, but no action when the time comes. Because when the time comes, reality sets in and they both realize that it's not really practical or interesting to do all that stuff people thought you were gonna do.

And you can do that without personally judging them. "Hey that's bad don't do that" doesn't require you to make assumptions or judgements about their entire life, just about whatever they're doing.

So if it's fine to say "You're going to Hell for doing that thing you like to do," what assumptions/judgements would this hypothetical Christian be making that they shouldn't? How is "You're going to Hell for doing that" not a personal judgement?

It doesn't matter since it means they are not sins by definition if you don't believe it.

If you're a Christian, and other people don't believe in Christianity, those other people are wrong. I'm talking about what's right/wrong from the perspective of a proper Christian. I'm saying proper Christianity is absolutely not about saying "Other people sinning is fine, I don't care." And it's REALLY absolutely not about saying "I welcome the sinner, and I also will not try to save them. I'm just gonna be nice to them and nothing else. That's what Christianity wants me to do." No, Christianity wants you to save them from sin. Someone has to.

All of that falls within the realm of "judging actions but not people," which is the central point I've made in every post on the subject.

So how do you get these people to avoid sin? You have to confront sinners and say "Hey, you're going to Hell if you keep doing that."

I didn't say "gospel," I said "judgement," specifically in the sense of judging somebody's entire life. Religion can tell you what's right and wrong, and you can act and respond to the actions of others accordingly, but making broader judgements is outside of its scope.

But as a Christian, your job is to see that sin does not prevail. You must be an example against sin, call out sin when you see it, inform others how they might avoid sin. If someone's sinning, and you say "That's fine for them if they want to," that's not a sin that they're committing. That's a "preference" they have.

Yeah, Click It or Ticket. But if the comparison is "You should do X for the same reason you wear a seatbelt," the reason would be "It's the law." That's not a choice by me, that's a compulsion by authority. If I didn't have to do X, I wouldn't do X. So if I don't have to get vaccinated, I won't. And if I don't have to wear a mask, I won't. And if I can get away with not wearing a seatbelt, I will.

Christians are perfectly free to judge actions and beliefs on their own merits. What they shouldn't do is judge people's entire lives and existence, since that's a very complex process that requires far more information than any mere mortal has access to. Limit judgements to what's immediately and practically necessary (i.e. you don't need to know everything about a murderer to know that they're dangerous and shouldn't roam free), but leave the rest up to the big guy (or for the atheists, just let it go).

And yes, a great many Christians ignore this, because a great many Christians aren't very Christ-like at all. But that's not particularly news to anyone.

If Christianity was about leaving the gospel to the Big Guy, there would be no churches. Christianity, like all dogmas, is about explaining what is right, what is wrong, and making sure wrongness does not prevail. You don't have a religion if you don't have rules.

I don't think WWIII is really a risk at this point, if Russia needs a bunch of hired thugs to take out its vastly smaller neighbor after failing to do so themselves what the fuck are they gonna do to any world power? This whole debacle has only proven russia's incompetence

What is WW3? How do you define it? Would it be a war where multiple countries are playing? Because isn't that what's happening right now?

Some say "It'll be on when NATO is involved." Because the countries of NATO would be "allied powers" fighting against Russia. But moreso, if NATO gets involved, this war might get nuclear. US on the field will embolden Putin to use what nukes he has. And then we'll have to use what nukes we have.

I don't like to be one of those guys who's like "This is just like that book or movie of video game I like," but this really reminds me of Peace Walker, and the test of how far human beings are actually willing to take things when nuclear war is on the table. Would Putin fire nukes if the US jumped in? And if the US got nuked, would we really nuke back? Or would we, for fear of plunging the world into armageddon, say "Okay, haha, fair enough Russia you can have that one but let's play nice from now on?"

we're three years into a pandemic that should have been over in a few months

everything is expensive and jobs are paying lower

the political landscape in every region is utter garbage prioritizing profit over populace

nazis came back

russia decided to start a war and threaten nuclear holocaust to everyone

there's quite a few reasons as to what would make someone depressed right now

Two years and some months. Technically if you live in the United States, the lockdowns only started in March. And Nazis never left. We certainly had edgy sociopolitical views in 2005.

@tonicpalin
medical costs are about as expensive as USA even after "government subsidies". and after retirement the insurance corps pretty much block you from all medical insurance, so we can only rely on government stuff which only deduct like a maximum of a few thousand bucks a month, when it cost more than 3 million dollars (estimate from over a decade ago) to survive cancer.

as for rent, well this is one of the most expensive cities in the SEA, with houses that can cost up to 5 million bucks... for a limited lease period. there's cheaper "commie block" options, but i don't qualify for any of them because i'm not married or anything like that.

What I mean is, what happened to you that you've found yourself in these straits?

I know, I know. Wrong board, what poll. But I only do this when it's actually interesting.

February 27th, 2005:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/1924-how-are-you

April 20th, 2013:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/5060-how-are-you

May 13th, 2015:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/5873-how-are-you

November 8th, 2019:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7775-how-are-you

Notice how the weight of the poll ebbs from "I'm good, can't complain" to "Not so good, but not that bad?" I don't know when the shift actually started, but it was definitely underway by 2013, balanced by 2015, and then officially shifted by 2019.

So what were we all so happy about in 2005? Let's try and figure it out.

Picture this. The year is 2005. All is joy. You're dancing and prancing through the fields. You're naked. Everyone else is naked too, dancing and prancing. Some people are kissing. You notice. Oh, this is kind of exciting. You stop dancing.

The fact that people literally shut down their lives for a year or two and went out of their way to deliberately limit human contact probably also helped. Fewer people in the wild means fewer potential carriers for you to encounter.

Except the vaccine helps the people who do catch it, by moderating the symptoms. Vaccination can be the difference between needing to be hospitalized for days and just riding out the symptoms at home.

And then there's other factors to consider. Certain people's physiology seems to be weaker against it, so they'll suffer worse symptoms if they do contract it, so they're much better off vaccinated. Same for immunocompromised people who would pretty much be fucked if they caught it completely unprotected. And even perfectly healthy people still have a lower chance of catching it if they're vaccinated than they do if they're not. In addition, people in more rural areas where they interact with people less or shut-in people who already do most of their shopping by delivery and avoid going out are going to be safer than people who live in crowded areas and are constantly interacting with people.

It's like going into combat and choosing whether or not to wear a bulletproof vest. Sure, you might avoid getting shot entirely. You might even avoid it for a long time. And even if you do get shot it might just be a graze. But if you take one directly in the chest, you're going to be very, very glad that you wore your vest... and you might just be dead if you didn't.

The problem with vaccination is that if it works the way it's supposed to, it doesn't really have a visible, tangible effect from the anecdotal perspective, so it's easier to dismiss it as being unnecessary. It's vaccination that is playing a large part in making the virus less virulent.

I mean fuck a vaccine for me. Masks have worked fine for me. So I doubt I'll need a vaccine.
