The "digital age" doesn't have much to do with it.
Two bros playing on a couch only need one copy.
Two bros playing across the internet need two copies.

Once devs realized that the resources need to get four-player splitscreen to work could free up a few more polygons for pretty screenshots, it was all over. When devs realized they could shut down the online-play server after a handful of months and effectively force gamers to buy essentially the same game every year, it was definitely all over.

Yeah but without this new aged technology none of this would be possible. So TECHNICALLY the digital age does play a part

I can smell desperation on people. Single people all give off a similar vibe.

People in relationships seem more complete, they don't care that everything is going according to plan. They show that in every problem they face. If something goes wrong, they accept that's just what happens when they attempt something.

With a single person, when something goes wrong it's just typical and all too real.

At my workplace I can tell if a customer is single before I look at the size of their shopping cart based off the vibes they give off, the way they look at me, and the way they talk and with how much investment they respond. (A smaller shopping cart, of course, means single.)
