Looks like my attempt to ignite additional interest in the contest failed. No regrets,though. I periodically go through and rate all my music discoveries as a way to sort out what's worth keeping and what's not worth keeping (among other purposes). And since I had the ratings handy it was simple to create my top eight, so it didn't actually take too much effort!

Yeah, it's probably been in some vgm guessing games or whateve~! And I just checked... invivo was on the G-Darius BOST5 setlist! But there's a 90% chance I did not ever listen to it because during noninations that contest there was lots of music I never got around to listening to. (but okay, I just need to listen to G-Darius as a whole)

Now that we're half-way through the contest, I thought it would be fun to run two polls. Massive X is only 54th, though--there are tracks I've ranked higher that are in some setlists, but they haven't been in any matches.

Wow, more heavy hitters. Two of them are ~50th place in my vgm rankings! But I'm disappointed I couldn't vote for Mechanism, one of my favorite new discoveries so far this contest... *sigh* Matches one and three have some seriously great music.

Interesting. We have two VGMC bracket winers today. And Bleached Breath is really amazing... it's probably my favorite of the day. Considering Healthy Unicorn Girl is among today's music, that's saying something.

Yggdrasil pulled through. Nice. And Edge of the Future really dominated that match. I wonder if it would be worth nominating for VGMC (again)...

Not nearly as passionate toward fire-types as psychic types... I would take six or seven psychic types or any of these, I think.

Cobalt Coastlands 1 (Version 2)

I love -{EDGE OF THE FUTURE} to DEATH (might be my favorite track in the whole contest so far)....I love everything about it... the opening melody, despite being only half notes, works so amazingly well for an opening buildup (granted, I enjoy most any kind of non-standard melody) in preparation for the "main" melody at 0:54, for which the synth is fantastic (ah, I just realized the main melody mostly emphasizes the weak beats, which partly explains why the opening melody works), ...I enjoy the subtle use of orchestra and choir samples in that same place, at 1:49 the cool buzz thing in the background that gradually increases in pitch and back down, the the organ-like mixture of timbres at 1:56, the way the woodwinds back up the brass at 2:41...., the child voices at 4:06 bringing back melody #2 slightly altered (and OMG those fast string patterns at 4:58)... and there's just this epic, hopeful energy that pervades the entire piece.... is this the final battle theme of the game? If it's not, it should have been! Anyway, this may be my favorite Sakimoto composition ever.

and Cobalt Coastlands has that unmistakeable D/P/P signature sound of using percussion, guitars, bass, and soft textures in non-standard ways...

I love invivo so much!!! And FP2's sound production really resonates with me....the dirty quasi-FM sound and interesting way to incorporate bells...yum (a bit weak compositionally, though). The other tracks have nice harmonies and stuff, but aren't really what I'm looking for.

Well, I got my wish that one of my noms would face something super weak, but this blowout was beyond anything I expected for a track from Gates to Infinity.... (but DGBR is actually pretty awesome!)

I still remember being blown away by the music when entering the Undersea Palace for the first time as a kid... the atmosphere is really something for SNES. Honestly, I'm not sure what track in CT is my favorite these days, but it's possible it could be this one.

Eh, actually, it's more complicated than that. There are lots of subjective factors in addition to sounding good that make me come back to certain music... what I perceive as unique would be just one of those.

First match is hard because it's basically "A sounds better" vs. "B is more what I look for in music". Initially I was leaning towards 347wh8dh78ah because first impressions tend to be based on how the music sounds, but ultimately, the one that has what I'm looking for has to win out.... in this case. ("what sounds good" is generally what I look for in music, true, but there's a lot of "good sounding" music that isn't sufficiently unique to make me want to come back to it)

Second match is awesome! A hard choice yet again. Actually, I keep forgetting that I love the first half of Frozen Depths, but not so much when the full-on melody enters, so maybe it's not such a hard choice.
