The main Spirits mode (the non World of Light one) basically is event mode, but you unlock spirits in it. It's the same idea, though. Quirky, character-based challenges.

I don't follow individual "leakers" very much considering they often amount to just being the folks who guessed correctly, but does Vergeben have any notable credits to his name outside of this game? From what I've read that he's predicted it largely just seems to be like he's making the safe bets while avoiding saying anything that would be immediately contradicted, which to his credit at least makes him smarter than other "leakers."

He only got credibility because of his leaks for other games, actually

Got TMNT in Injustice 2, down to describing that they were 4 characters in 1 and describing how they fought

Got Groh in SC6, including describing his weapon and fighting style long before it was showed off

Is 3/3 on the DLC for SNK Heroines

He has got a lot of stuff dead on.

Granted, he's also gotten stuff wrong, but he said he gets info from multiple sources and tries to piece it all together.

He's certainly not to be taken as gospel at all, but what he says shouldn't outright be dismissed, either.

Geno actually did worse back then than I remembered, but yeah Isaac has been near the top for a while.

Well, the August 2018 one is an example of what I'm talking about. It was after Ridley/K Rool, and when others were confirmed as ATs, and so on. People's first, second, and so on choices were already either in or deconfirmed.

The first one is interesting, but sorta makes sense. Isaac did pretty bad in the Japanese polls, so it seems like the west drug him up pretty big, but apparently not enough.

They were all wrong except for Vergeben, who nobody really has any idea how he actually gets his info. Like, completely wrong. The only thing they were "right" about were the leak being fake, but they all said stuff like "Because it doesn't contain other characters that were in" and specifically never named names for plausible deniability.

The leak made people see things they shouldn't have.

Like, I posted a picture showing that the sprout item that everybody thought was from Golden Sun was the same sprout as on the healing item, just rotated slightly, and said people shouldn't get their hopes up, and instead I was accused of doctoring things to make them seem the same because "It's clearly Growth and you're blind and this with everything else means Isaac is so in."

The leak was being used as evidence for other assumptions when the leak itself wasn't even provable. But then what didn't help was that on the other side, the only actual knocks against it were "insiders" who were also wrong.

You know, the worst part about this is that people are going to give the "insiders" like Emily Rogers credit since the leak was fake, when they purposely refused to actually name any characters and only said "the leak is fake," so that they could avoid actually being wrong.

The only one who should get any credit whatsoever is Vergeben. The dude actually put himself out there by naming characters, and was like, 95% right throughout the entire process. The only reason he didn't nail it completely was because he stayed on the fence and went back and forth on whether there were characters besides Kencineroar or not.

In PP's FS, he summons Petey. MWC argued that he changes into Petey, but people pointed out that the original PP is still there during the FS. Well, it's not so much an issue with that being how he sees it

It became an issue when he basically said "I don't care if anybody else likes the other characters/stages/modes, I didn't get the character I want" and is arguing that that's a valid criticism of the game itself instead of just a reason for him not to buy it. It's a reason for him not to buy it, and it's fine, but it's not really a valid criticism of the overall game itself.

I respectfully disagree. I see more merit in having people be happy a character gets in more than a joke character and think it was the wrong decision.

To me, I actually like that they took a swing at something people didn't expect, and it seems to actually be a pretty decent hit based on initial reactions that aren't people just whining because X didn't get in. It just feels like to me that if they did put in, say, Isaac, people would go "Alright, Isaac! ...But where's Geno this sucks!" Just giving in to the endless list of demands instead of trying something fun like this is just boring and kinda creates more problems than it solves.

They didn't want to put Ridley in and yet made it work because fans wanted it. They probably didn't want to do K. Rool and yet did because there was demand. It is going to have 80 playable characters, over 100 stages, online modes, this spirit mode thing that seems never ending. Literally every character they have ever had on one of these games. I just feel like asking for more makes us feel greedy and unappreciative of all the work they have done.

I mean that's great

I don't buy Smash games for extra random stages that I will never play on, and I hardly ever play single player, and the online legitimately looks like a step back

I buy these games for the new characters and I don't care about any of the new characters

This post literally makes you sound like an entitled child

If it's that big of an issue, don't buy the game

Well, they made a fan service game. So they should be doing fan service, honestly.

Like, I get doing something fun. If this were a series that isn't literally just all about fanservice, I'd be about that. But when you have people clamoring for some of their characters to be in and you put in a Pirahna Plant of all things, it's kind of crappy.

Again, though, where does it stop? You can't give literally everybody every character they want. They have to draw a line.

They didn't want to put Ridley in and yet made it work because fans wanted it. They probably didn't want to do K. Rool and yet did because there was demand. If they give people Isaac, people are gonna complain if Geno isn't there. If they give people Geno, people are gonna complain that Dixie isn't there. If they give Dixie, people will complain that Rex isn't there. And on and on and on.

They can't bend over backwards to give literally every character every single person who is "paying $60 for this game" wants.

Spirits look cool. Characters were expected. We knew there wasn't much else to show, anyway. Piranha Plant is a cool random addition and it's free. 5 DLC coming. Some kind of "story" mode.
