The direct also addressed that sort of point in talking about the Rex Mii Fighter costume, saying that they didn't add in anyone that first showed up after the game's development got underway. That'd rule out ARMS anyway, just as it did Rex.

Pretty much moot when we're talking about DLC characters.

So's the idea that a fun concept should be thrown out because the character it's attached to isn't "important" enough.

The main thing for him seems to be that he has long reach because he can stretch his stem. So here's an idea for a character that would play very similarly: someone from ARMS. Wow, took me a few seconds to come up with a character that plays about the same that isn't totally stupid and represents a Nintendo IP that has no representation in Smash.

Nah, it's pretty dumb. They could have gone with a more iconic Mario character like Koopa or Goomba, or used a random enemy from a less represented series, like a Bulborb or something. Unlike the WFT reveal, which was random and awesome (and had other benefits), this is random and lame.

That they don't get jawbreakers at the end. Like, that's their goal for most of the show, but they don't get any at the end. The last scene should have been everyone enjoying jawbreakers in Kevin's garage.
