That's entirely possible, of course. I'm just saying that it's not so much a "1 day after statement" deal. Of course, Tillerson may have thought it was fine to say that stuff because he knew he was on his way out anyway.

Reports are out that Trump asked Tillerson to leave the position on Friday. That would be before Tillerson's comments with regards to Russia's acting with the nerve gas.

Again, rumors have been surrounding Tillerson for about 6 months. Back in October they mentioned Pompeo as a potential replacement for him as SoS. I will say the logistics and the timing couldn't be worse, unless that was Tillerson's plan.

There have been rumors going around about Tillerson being out since November. I doubt that this sort of thing wasn't written on the wall around Mattis and Mnuchin.

I truly don't think we'll see either of them quit. It's not like Trump put in a particularly bad replacement (though I don't know much about Pompeo). I think Mattis understands that it's better for him to stay as the Secretary of Defense rather than let Trump try and nominate someone else.

Which I'd have to ask, would Sec of Defense need to be approved by the Senate in this case?

I mean I don't agree with Trump's reasoning, but I can't be surprised the Oscars have falling ratings. I think more and more people are just getting tired of these massive shows that do nothing but let the Hollywood stars praise each other for 3 or 4 hours.

The only award show I'd even consider watching is the Tony's, and that's just because at the very least they have some reasonable entertainment that doesn't feel like a massive "Good job to all of us!" party.
