I assume they have their reasons. For some of them, those reasons are going to be stupid ****, but I have no way to tell who's who, and it's not my place to assume. It helps that under ordinary circumstances I have my own reasons, though I will be voting to stop Trump because I believe that needs to happen by any means necessary.

Now, if someone starts going off and telling me their reasons are stupid ****, that's another matter, but that's on them. I was perfectly happy assuming otherwise until they opened their mouths and removed all doubt.

Because that is what you're implicitly supporting if you deliberately refuse to make a move with a chance of removing Trump when the other options are gone. Choices have consequences, including the choice not to act.

I'm 40 and still have one living grandmother. I lost my other three grandparents in the last ten years. Even growing up, I had a vague sense that I was lucky to have all four still living, and I was definitely lucky to have all four for as long as I did.

I knew two great-grandmothers, though not very well. My timeline is a little hazy, but I think one of these lived to see me graduate high school, though not college.

So, TC, I'm going to give you a list of five things. From what I've read in your post, I'm guessing that at least three or four of them matter to you, maybe even a lot. What I want to know is, which one would you say matters the most to you right now? I'm not sure this is necessarily going to be an easy question. The are no right or wrong answers to this, as long as the answer is yours; if you just tell me what I want to hear, that would be a wrong answer, because the answer has to come from you to be useful.

Belonging: a sense of community, a place to call home. You mentioned not being entirely satisfied with your circle of friends, and you mentioned Smash tournaments that you missed but wish you hadn't. Are you feeling isolated?

Security: a sense of safety. You don't seem to be in any major physical danger at this stage, but you do seem worried about your emotional health, as well as your grades. That's a kind of safety too. Do you believe you're in danger?

Freedom: the ability to do what you want. You talk about feeling trapped, like you don't do much just for yourself anymore. Do you need to be making more of the choices in your life?

Significance: the ability to do good, meaningful work. You talk about being annoyed with busywork and bull**** courses, maybe even finding a new major. Do you need a different kind of work to do, or even (strange as it may sound) just more to do?

Meaning: "the greater good", changing the world. You don't talk about this so much, but with how exhausted you are, I'm not all that surprised you wouldn't have it in you to be hugely concerned. Honestly, there's no shame in it if you aren't. But I'm not in your head. Doubtless you're thinking lots of things I'm not privy to, and maybe some of this can be found there.

Think about these. Which one would you say matters the most to you right now? I'm not asking you to marry your answer: it will probably change over time, as you change and as your circumstances change. You'll probably end up dealing with all of them eventually. But right now, you need to chase after what matters most, whatever that means for you, because that's the place where you're most likely to find the energy you're looking for.
