......man. this is so much better than before which was so much better than what i had. incredible stuff.

Those things will be burning in for at least 20 hours. If you put 40 hours on those and then plugged in another pair of stock the difference would be night and day. The drivers are loosening up and "burning in." Some will tell you that doesn't exist and that it's just a placebo, but I see tons of folks who've never heard the term remarking that their headphones magically sound better. I've also heard that the HM5/FA-003/Digitech/Jaycar respond well to EQing. Meaning if you're ever dissatisfied with, say, a lack of bass, they should respond well to proper bass boost and things of that nature.

Hey Digi, would you have any recommendations for a quality set of bookshelf speakers for general turntable use? Something that plugs into a pre-amp. I just ordered the Sony SS-B1000 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OG88KY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00) but I'll probably have a day or two to cancel the order if you have anything comparatively priced but better in mind.

For your usage, I don't think you'll get much better than that at the price. They should respond very well to any kind of amping and do what you need. I haven't heard them in particular but Sony is almost always a safe bet with speakers (and headphones). I can do a bit of snooping and see if I can come up with something better, though.

Quite a bit! Makes the music feel more alive which is pretty amazing with Ace Combat music. The unsung war wasn't my fave but it just sounds much better than before due to the clarity. Zero however, sounds awesome.

I imagine you'll hear a lot of things that weren't there before.

Awesome. Yeah, it's hard to actually muffle sound without active noise cancellation. Unfortunately, noise cancellation is often hand in hand with terrible sound quality. The best thing to do is get a closed pair with hard clamping force .. but then they're not as comfortable.

I haven't got into it much just yet but I recall seeing a sweet tower defense mod that might be fun on its own, and there's also one like warring nations or skyrim at war ... something like that. Basically, it makes the factions actually have battles out in the open and around settlements. Adds some legitimacy to it that I like.

59. S01E12 Comparative Religion

I wish I had put this episode lower on the list. Shirley is a character I really like a lot at times, but in her extensively intolerant state, it just reminds me of all kinds of people that I personally know and despise. Also, it’s a holiday episode and it’s boring. Ugh ugh ugh. This is the real No. 70. Just sayin’.

60. S02E12 Asian Population Studies

I do not like Rich nor do I like Shirley’s ex-husband. I will say that Jeff’s speech regarding Senor Chang and Rich is pretty amazing. Chang’s responses during the speech is pretty awesome, as well. But outside of that, I don’t really get a ton from this episode. Troy has a lot of awesome lines, mostly with himself, with totally works.

I’m a fan of Jon Olver in this episode, as well. And, of course, the “Brown Jamie Lee Curtis” line. That was awesome. I think this is the second or third mention about the lack of a Mexican in the group too, which is awesome.

Drive is really good. I just wish the speeds were just a little bit better and I hope the interface does evolve to make it a better mass-storage option. It's also a bit buggy (mostly with shared items). But I'm really happy with it so far. And Chrome is awesome as always.

Eh, I don't really like how flat and wide the Nexus is to hold. Maybe it's because my hands are small.

I have unusually small hands for someone as tall as I am, but I do enjoy holding the Nexus. Still, it's indisputable that $350 is the absolute best deal you can get off contract for a top-end phone right now though. It's really tough to hold back.

I'm thinking I'll finally upgrade to the Nexus. I've been using a Samsung Exhibit II with a 4.0 (CM9) ROM on it and it's just now starting to get irksome. I wanted a Nexus some time ago but $700 is just too much for a phone. Google dropping it to $350 is awesome.

Well, Fischer Audio is a very, very respected brand and loyalty factors into their price. They also have great support. Brainwavz is also establishing themselves well. But, the reviews also say that these headphones perform out of their price bracket. The neutral, analytical aspect of these is on par with other $250 offerings, something that's really tough to do considering the general jump in quality from $50 to $200 (which I believe to be about the biggest jump in headphone quality, honestly).

61. S03E12 Contemporary Impressionists

After reading the episode description, I had serious hopes for this episode. The description made it sound like … well, it made it sound like one of those timeless episodes. But that’s not what we got at all. Instead, we got some great scenes mixed with everything that happened at the party. In other words, once they were actually at the party, it was a severe letdown. The Dean falling on the ground and remarking about Jeff’s shadow was hilarious, though.

I think it will be useful in the mobile space - its target demo - but it will eventually make search less and less neutral and more and more about paid advertisements. This is just another way for Google to subtly get more paid ads.

Google Now sounds terrible, because they'll end up integrating that into actual Search. Google's Search is getting worse and worse, with more and more bias. Bleh. That being said, Jelly Bean looks like a nice incremental improvement and that tablet is much better looking than expected.

62. S03E18 Course Listing Unavailable

Britta putting on starburns is basically the best part of this episode. Outside of that, it’s pretty predictable. I do think the characters act it very well and it’s an important episode and all - but it’s just a segue to the real big stuff at the end of season three. There’s not much else to say about it.

63. S01E15 Romantic Expressionism

This episode would be near the bottom if it wasn’t for Pierce trying to impress during Kick Puncher and the way he talks to the improv group. I find absolutely nothing interesting about the Troy, Annie and Vaughn thing. The worst episode involving Vaughn, who I believe is a great character.

64. S01E06 Football, Feminism and You

Early character development for Troy is essential to building the fact that he’s .. not so bright and also the best on the show. So there’s that. But it’s still not very compelling character development, and I’m left wishing Troy and Pierce had more episodes with them bonding through their mutual adolescence.

I also don’t find much compelling about the whole Britta + bathroom thing. She continues to be a terrible character throughout most of season one. Shirley has some good moments, mostly from her facial expressions, as usual. Good episode mostly due to the scenes actually out there on the football field when Jeff is talking to Troy.

honestly it'll be hard for me to be uncomfy with anything that big. my ability to gain comfort is second to my ability to be lazy/stubborn and stick with things that are good.

but man, you introduced me to them. don't you have BETTER ones by now. like say... the 1100 setup ones.

Of course. I have at least ten pairs that are objectively better, but I don't currently have a pair that is neutral. Those are seriously neutral champs. I've owned them in the past. And yeah, they'll probably get comfier with time, as the somewhat stiff cups loosen up.

66. S03E10 Regional Holiday Music

I don’t like singing. But it’s still done very well. I recognize it as funny while being displeased with what’s going on in my ears.

65. S01E14 Interpretive Dance

I like how they think Pierce is dead in the beginning. Privacy Smurf, Discrete Bear and Confidentiality Spice made me laugh an awful lot, but once the actual episode got going, it didn’t do much for me. It’s great that Community is such a different show that the immasculating aspect of taking a dance class doesn’t just affect one character - and that the second character is also a female who isn’t very feminine. That’s a refreshing dynamic, but it’s not enough to carry the episode in regards to enjoyment while watching.

Britta staring at Troy’s package is pretty funny, but again, it’s not just … hilarious. There’s isolated pockets of funny, but as a whole, it’s lacking as a whole.

What about the message grates on you?

Community has always used a heavy-handed pathos to even out the wacky eccentrics. It's the Arrested Development format that every show from Community to Parks and Recs has used. Like Alan Sepinwall said(paraphrased):

"There are 2 kinds of shows on TV: Pathos driven comedies like Arrested Development and Anti Hero Dramas like Sopranos."


Mixology Certification happens to do the former exceptionally well. Be it the pangs of deceit/anger/jealousy/disappointment that flicker across Troy's face all within a split second when he finds out Britta kissed Jeff again or the hilariously disheartening realization that Jeff/Britta were talking about the same bar. That episode was what made Remedial Chaos so damn defining. It was one of the first times we got to see them as people, flaws and all, and turns out Troy is the good one.

I just don't like the presentation. I honestly feel like it's sloppy. Community is a show that's amazing when it comes to going out of the normal boundaries of a sitcom and illustrating a concept in its own way. This is one message or concept that I just don't like. I don't like the realization in the end and I don't like the Jeff/Britta dynamic throughout. But it's not an episode that's totally lost on me. I understand why it's enjoyed and won't try and convince anybody otherwise, but it just doesn't do it for me.
