I've voted Republican, and I don't think swordz9's take here is entirely wrong. In fact, I'm not even sure it's partly wrong. Even though Republicans like to talk about being the party of Lincoln, they haven't been during the lifespan of any person here on B8. They also aren't the party of Reagan. If old Ronny was alive and mentally fit today, he would rail against Trump and his followers. Reagan would have probably tried to do everything in his power to destroy Trump after he asked Russian hackers to attack Hillary, despite the party line difference. They do act like a cult of personality, and they do ignore the values that the party held even a decade ago.

So when I see you casually ask the question like that, considering the broad scope of our nation's political history, it really sounds like "so you didn't drink the kool-aid?"

Also, and this is a weird one, did anyone else get some Taylor Swift vibes at points with the lyrics and sometimes the vocals? In particular I think I'm thinking about Your Type and maybe When I Needed You.
I'm going to say you aren't wrong on picking up those vibes, because both were obviously making music that resonated with their own lives and the lives of their target audience. I felt it too, but how many permutations of "young woman expressing the difficulties of pursuing love and happiness while being a modern pop singer" can there really be?

Even though this wasn't my top vote for this week, it was one I really wanted to do. When I listen to this album, I have mixed feelings. There are so many songs that I feel like maybe could have become radio hits, but none of them did. My ranking isn't necessarily related to which ones could maybe have been hits, but that's the thing. A good number of these songs could have potentially been big. Not the meme that "Call Me Maybe" was, obviously, but there are songs in here that could have been legit hits. Payola is alive and well, I suppose, and her team didn't throw the cash around. :/

There are a lot of times when I just want to get to the end of an album in this series, just to have it done, including even one I nominated. I really wanted to listen to each song here. Well, more or less. There is one song I would have been happy to skip, and one that the sound mixer must have fallen asleep on at the board... Otherwise, this is a stellar album.

You are definitely overthinking it. Any blank you don't want to fill, feel free to be vague. Also, keep in mind, the expectations you think they might have of you is probably not something they are even thinking of. It's just like that embarrassing thing you did that you remember and no one else does. The expectations you think they had of you are probably something you remember and they don't. Realistically, 16 year-olds very rarely turn into the person they or anyone else actually expects.

I don't know 16 year old you. I don't think I'd really know me from 20 years ago, either. You're a good person, just roll with that.

Okay, so reading what you did it does kinda feel like it's not in the spirit of the contest, but banning people over it? That seems childish. Maybe not count the points for the game, or something, if a punishment really is necessary. Kinda shocking that the whole thing is supposed to be about competing for the most trophies and the guy who was winning just quit because some people got an easy W. But, I guess, what could you expect if the guy's first thought is banning people rather than a more sensible solution.

Wait, is Talisman itself hated or just that edition? Not that I go around asking everybody their opinion on the game, but I don't recall anyone ever telling me they hate Talisman. Also, while it is heavily luck based, I wouldn't say near 100%. There are some strategies and decision making, even if die rolls are still a major factor. The players who know the game do have a better chance of winning.

It would be very nice if it was two weeks tops. It'd be even better if it was just the 4th and Christmas Eve. Some people lack the courtesy to not do it just whenever they feel like. Just because they're only sold for two week periods doesn't mean the jackass down the street isn't going to fire them off just because they feel like it.

If a common occurrence is enough to traumatize your dog/family or even drive them to death, then you sure as hell need to interview everyone on the block before moving there. Or live in an HOA that forbids fireworks. Those exist and people pay a premium to live there for this exact reason.

It sucks that the dog Ermine worked with died for no reason, but it should be uncontroversial to blame the owner for it. Especially since some loud thunder could've caused the exact same result. Would it really have been fine if the dog died due to thunder or sirens? "Oh well, nothing anyone could've done!" Dogs are domesticated creatures and demand care from the owner. If you can't keep them safe then leave them to the professionals.
This is just more victim blaming. I mean hell, you literally just blamed the dog's owner. Even if you could interview the whole block, you have no control of who moves in after someone else moves out. Also HOAs can be absolutely terrible and are not a good solution.

Are you also the sort of person that says "look at how she's dressed, she had it coming?"

I grew up in a state (New York) were fireworks are completely illegal for private use. So my idea of a medium was something like smuggle in some fireworks adjacent stuff from across state lines (sparklers and snakes and shit like that, definitely no mortars lol) and be discreet with them. So moving to other states where fireworks are just a damn free for all, even in urban/residential areas ffs, was easily the wildest culture shock of my life that didnt involve travel to a foreign country (and tops a lot of those experiences tbh).

I'll be honest, mentally I kind of don't even consider snappers, sparklers, and snakes as fireworks. Those, I have no ill will towards. Not too loud, not too dangerous. Frankly, I think you would actually have actively try to hurt yourself or someone else with one of them.

Oh, I do. If I had my way there wouldn't even be those fireworks shows. Thus, a controlled show put on by the city or county is a happy medium. Using personal fireworks is just stupid. There are roughly 10,000 injuries and 20,000 fires every year due to their usage. People are literally playing with fire, and it's often the ones who think "I'm responsible, nothing will go wrong" that learn "no you're not, it just did."

Quite frankly, this topic has a ton of "they'll get over it" and "ban other people's idea of fun because I don't like it", and it's pretty irritating. My first reply to this topic might not have been "helpful", but I'm not sure any reply in here really will be either. I've never owned an animal afraid of thunder or fireworks, and yes I've owned a lot of animals but obviously I'm well aware many animals out there are terrified of loud noises.

Like I've said several other times, I think finding a common ground and happy medium is the best thing for everyone. For owners of pets that are afraid of the sounds, hey you should only have to worry about this twice per year and taking proper precautions falls under the guidelines of healthy pet ownership. For people who enjoy fireworks, understand that they can be a public nuisance and use them responsibly. Which means using them on appropriate days at appropriate times (I've been hearing them go off in the DAY lately, which is such a waste and also annoying). The real problem is that a lot of people's idea of "inconsiderate" use of fireworks is using them at all, which is an inconsiderate opinion to have because it's selfish. People just don't want to try and do a bit of give and take in situations for whatever reason and it boggles my mind. Don't shoot off fireworks 5 days after a holiday or at 3am in the morning and don't vilify anyone that uses fireworks on their own lawn on a major holiday (reminder: this topic was created on the holiday you should use them on). There should be a really easy way to compromise, but like almost every situation in the world, no one likes that.
Every city I've ever lived in does a common ground/happy medium... it's the fireworks that are set off in a designated area by trained professionals. Go watch the infinitely better show instead of risking your own body, the safety of animals, or even the risk of burning your own house down.

I hate stupid arguments like "it's your fault for moving into a neighborhood with shitty neighbors." You can't go and interview everybody living on the block. Like, for example, I sure as hell didn't get the chance to interview the guy who saw me driving down the street and intentionally shot a firework off in my direction. Or the people who set their fireworks off in the middle of the street, making it so no traffic could pass until their fireworks ran out.

MZero is right - fireworks should be left to professionals, and set off in designated areas.

Sunshine, though, with lots of hindsight, it's not that the game is necessarily bad but the whole FLUDD thing is just not how I wanted to play a Mario game. The gameplay that it creates is a bit boring, and it would have been better if the game was built with it being a powerup available only in certain areas (like caps in SM64) while the rest of the game should have just been Mario.

Like yeah of course the Hulk doesn't win a 1v1 fight, these movies aren't supposed to be a series of 1v1 fights, this isn't an anime tournament arc. This was an interesting journey we went on with Banner, trying to decide how we move him forward in the Marvel Universe. What makes him unique as a character is that there is a host body that is being fought over by two distinct personalities who hate each other. And both want control of the host body. So we thought an interesting direction to take him in is what if Banner, who typically uses the Hulk to solve crisis situations, what if the Hulk were no longer interested in solving those problems for Banner? So that the relationship is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. That's what's going on here.
People have speculated whether there was some fear on the Hulk's part about having to face Thanos again. But I think ultimately what it is, is that he's tired of playing hero to Bruce Banner.

Found what I was thinking of, this is the director of infinity war
I dunno if one of the Russos wrote that, but I despise it. It makes me ick. It makes me ick hard. It makes me ick hard because Bruce does not think of the Hulk as a hero, he thinks of the Hulk as a monster (as he rightly should). If you want to say he calls on the Hulk in moments of desperation, sure. But it's not because the Hulk is any sort of hero, at all. A pacifist could pick up a gun and shoot another human being to save themselves in desperation. That doesn't make them a gun lover. Also, this radically undermines the shift to "Smart Hulk" we see in Endgame. This takes two fundamentally opposed forces realizing how they intrinsically benefit each other and turns it into something more akin to a lovers spat that becomes mended. Ick.

The Spider-Gwen stuff is absolutely beautiful, like a Robbi Rodriguez cover made animated. At least in palate and tone, if not as much in style. I don't really want to talk story, but I liked it too. But damn, the artwork is on another level. Every. single. moment. Even with all of the clashing styles, it still works. The visuals are just crushingly beautiful.
