To evolve is just to change over time, so calling it evolution is still technically correct. Evolution is a perfect catch-all term really. Wii_Shaker posted... I think what Digimon do is closer to evolving as they completely change forms entirely. Disregarding them completely changing forms is just rewriting data, how is "digivolution" not closer to metamorphosis, visually? Digivolving has been shown throughout multiple media as encapsulating themselves in a digital egg, then bursting out as new monster.
