Far more fun than it's reputation suggests, as long as you're open to some Roger silliness.

Also has a couple of genuinely tense sequences that tend to get overlooked. Orlov is wondefully hammy. And the pre credits is one of the best.

Good to see a few fellow Moonraker supporters here. Even when I was in my teenage "Bond must be super-serious!" phase, I still thought it was just good, silly fun.

I love Drax. I know he's pretty much another Stromberg, but he's got so many brilliantly dry one liners.

Moonraker was a favorite as a kid, but I haven't watched it since then. It's enjoyable, but it gets so goofy. Gotta cash in on the Star Wars hype. There is that one scene with the dogs though.

Nightmarish. Like it's been dropped in from a totally different film, and all the more effective because of it.

I know I'm in a minority, but Moonraker is a blast. It's The Spy Who Loved Me blown up to even bigger proportions. Gloriously absurd.

Not so much a substitute as iirc it was going to be Spectre vs Him which would of been amazing.

Just had a read of the film's Wikipedia page - according to that, the original idea was for another villainous group to take out SPECTRE, but that was scrapped, and then later on all use of SPECTRE and Blofeld were elimated from the script.

Something that's only just occurred to me about the end of this film:

Stromberg's death always seemed like another 'Moore goes ruthlessly badass' moment, but it would make a whole lot of sense if it was leftover from an earlier script where Blofeld was the villain. Especially with the Tracy callback earlier in the film.

I always thought Stromberg was a badass. Hes got an underwater palace with a beautiful view and classical music playing in the background - hes a man of taste.

And the shark scene is classic.

He's got a brilliant set up, one of the best in the series. All the trappings of a great villain. I just find the man himself a bit dull. Not sure if it's the actor or the character as written, but he's never clicked with me.

It made a lot of sense when I found out the character was a late substitute for Blofeld, due to legal issues.

Think my top 5 would be...

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
2. The Living Daylights
3. From Russia With Love
4. Goldeneye
5. Casino Royale

Hmm. Really difficult. Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, Licence To Kill could all make it in there on a different day.

I never liked Spy when I was younger, but I've really come round on it. I realised my only real problem with it is Stromberg, but it's all about his henchman anyway.

Moore talked about two scenes he didn't like in this one. Firstly, he really regretted pushing the kid into the river - especially in light of him going on to be an ambassador for UNICEF.

He also didn't enjoy getting rough with Maud Adams. He felt they were trying to make him too much like Connery's Bond in that scene, and it didn't suit him.

He does have these moments where he suddenly gets a little tougher and crueller than you expect, though, and he always pulls them off well.

What questionable lyric is there? >_>

I actually have to correct myself. There is none.

Love is required, whenever he's hired
It comes just before the kill

I swear EVERY time I've heard this song it sounded like "He comes just before the kill". It was 'it' and not 'he' all this time. I learned something new today. Haha...

It's still quite on the nose! As is "Who will he bang? We shall see". It's a hilariously crass, obnoxious theme but I can't lie, I get a kick out of it (that could apply to the film as whole, to be honest). And as always, I love how Barry works it into the score throughout film.

I like Live And Let Die a lot - it was the first Bond film I owned, and at one point it was my favourite. Always enjoyed the boat chase too. Moore hits the ground running, and I think he only gets better in a couple of films time.

Without giving too much away... based on your thoughts on this one, there's some bad news as far as The Man With The Golden Gun is concerned.

On the guilty pleasure front, I can't deny that there's some witty dialogue in DAF that cracks me up. Along with Wint and Kidd, it's about all its worth watching for.

Actually, the pre-titles is also quite good, and seems like they might actually follow up on the previous film (without overtly referencing it). "Welcome to hell, Blofield." And the elevator fight is a brief glimmer of brilliance, too.

It does feel very cheap, even compared to the relatively low budget Dr No. Pretty sure a good chunk of the budget went on Connery's salary.

I rank Diamonds pretty low, but it's an interesting mix up of a film. Connery back on board in an attempt to 'right the ship' and recapture the feel of Goldfinger, yet it ends up being a prototype Moore film.

I should have also mentioned the music, because it's probably John Barry's finest hour. When Bond suits up for the ski chase and then the theme kicks in, absolutely thrilling.

I've always enjoyed OHMSS, and over time it's become my number 1 Bond film. It's so great, and Lazenby isn't anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe (especially when you consider this was his first time acting).

I've seen some people criticise the ending, saying it needed a proper actor to pull it off. I think that's actually the one scene where Lazenby absolutely nails it. It kills me every time.

I like Thunderball quite a bit, I think it's the point where Connery's performance hits the perfect note of 'laid back cool', before slipping into laziness with his next one.

I have to really be in the mood for it though. The pace is, to put it kindly, leisurely.
