I already went on the date.. and it wasn't.

I went on the date and really shouldn't have. Started normal until I asked how her experience with the app was. She said she's met a bunch of duds and then began mentioning her ex and kept coming back to her ex like every 30 seconds. She didn't even mention that he died, just kept mentioning him like he was a past lover. Everytime I tried to deflect to other subjects, she'd just, stop and stare into space, lost and detached each time. Once I realized there was no getting through to this girl, I politely told her that I needed to go. That flipped this switch where she came back to reality and didn't want me to leave. She asked if i wanted to come over. I said no and was on my way and that was it.

I don't know why I didn't cancel the date. It was just her not even close to getting over this and using me as a sponge to talk about it. She never mentioned that he died or anything and I didn't bother to ask more about it because that would be dumb. It still made me feel bad to just sit there and watch someone pretty much uninterested in getting to know you and wanting you to just sit there and listen to them talk about someone else.

If it was me I would probably just go but also feel kind of odd about it. I mean if it was a year or more ago that would be one thing.

If I feel awkward about it from the comfort of my home, I can only imagine how I'd feel in person. I want to save us both the trouble. I'm just not ready for that kind of thing.

I did some facebook stalking and looks like her last boyfriend committed suicide not even 3 months ago. She has a foundation and everything set up for him. Finding this out just made me uncomfortable. It's just a lot for me to take in. The girl has been really sweet with messaging and playing no games and I feel devastated to have to cancel but the baggage is, not for me you know? It's just a shame that a really nice person(at least digitally) is going to get the shaft because it's just a lot for me to take in.

I guess I make some dumb excuse about why I can't come out tonight(something came up). Don't want to admit that I looked her up and found this out although it is relatively normal for online dating.

What were your thoughts going into this topic?
